BEB Favorites: January 2018
Hello hello last Monday in January!
Welcome to my first favorites post of the year; I’ve done these sporadically in the past, but am hoping to make them a monthly fixture here; there are always so many things I want to share with you, but more often than not I forget about them before I get the chance to talk about them!
Here’s to sharing lots of fabulous things in 2018! Let’s get rolling…
My Favorites! – January 2018
Jessica Simpson Maternity Jeans – I discovered these jeans when I was pregnant with Dominic, after going through so many other pairs, including super expensive brands, and not finding any that fit me well. These are literally the perfect maternity jeans – they’re slimming, flattering and, most important, they do not sag in the back after wearing them for any length of time! Plus, they’re reasonably priced; I recommend them to every pregnant person I know! (I have the slim fit boot cut, as well as the medium wash skinny jeans and dark wash skinny jeans.)
Zarbees Toddler Vitamins – I originally found these vitamins during a trip to Target last fall and I’ve been buying both the toddler multivitamin and the elderberry immune support ever since. I love that they are made without any artificial sweeteners, flavors, dyes, gelatin, or high-fructose corn syrup, plus they’re made in a nut-free facility, which is astonishingly hard to come by with vitamins, as I’ve found. I know a lot of people say that multi-vitamins don’t really do anything, and they might not, but Joseph is such a picky eater, that it at least makes me feel better that he’s getting some extra vitamins!
Bombas Socks – I mentioned that I bought these in a Friday Things a couple of months ago and I’m thrilled to tell you that these are the very, very best socks I think I’ve ever owned. They are incredibly soft, not too thick, not too thin, absolutely perfect. I immediately bought more after my test-run with the couple pairs I initially purchased.
NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner – I use this eyeliner every single day and it’s amazing. It goes on super smooth, doesn’t smudge and stays put all day. It, along with the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Liner, are my two go-to eyeliners; nothing else I’ve used has even come close.
Plae Shoes – Joseph got two pairs of these late in the fall, and they instantly became a favorite of his and ours, as well. They fit so well, go on easily, and have worn extremely well. He has a pair of the TY Light Year Blue and the NAT Hyperspace. The company also sells tabs separately so if your child happens to have wider feet or a high arch, you can buy larger tabs without needing to buy bigger shoes. Genius.
L.L.Bean Little Boys’ Ultralight Down Jacket – It was SO difficult to find a winter jacket for Joseph this year! In past years, we had been using The North Face Toddler Glacier fleece, which worked well when just getting in and out of the car. However, this year we needed something heavier since he is playing outside at school when it’s above 32 degrees, and playing in the snow here at home. I ordered nearly a dozen jackets for him from different brands, and none fit him well (some were too snug, too big, insanely long sleeves, etc.) except this one. It seriously fits him like a glove, it keeps him warm, and he loves wearing it.
Neutrogena Hand Cream – This is so old-school (I remember my mom giving it to me to use in middle school during the winter when my knuckles had cracked from being so dry!), but it is the absolute BEST hand cream I’ve yet to use in the winter. My hands were terribly chapped and cracked a month or so ago, so I bought this and started applying it religiously and they healed up quickly. I had tried some other hand creams before buying it, and they just did not work. Definitely a classic!
Smartfood White Cheddar Popcorn – This has been my guilty snack indulgence for the last few weeks… SO good.
St. Ives Body Wash and Lotion – I always have insanely dry, flaky skin in the wintertime, but this year it has been smooth and soft, and I totally attribute it to the combination of St Ives Nourish and Soothe Oatmeal and Shea Body Wash and the same oatmeal and shea butter body lotion. Absolute best body wash/lotion combo I have ever used.
SOREL Lea Wedge Boots – Okay, I am in LOVE with these boots. I asked for a Zappos gift card for Christmas to put towards them because I had been eyeing them for awhile. I desperately wanted a shoe with some height but that had a sole safe enough to still walk around on snowy/slushy sidewalks and parking lots. These are quite literally perfect. The wedge is extremely comfortable and doesn’t even feel like I’m wearing a heel and the tread on the bottom makes me feel totally comfortable walking outside without fear of slipping and falling.
That’s a wrap with what I’ve been loving recently! I would love to hear about some of your new favorites as well; share them in the comments below!

I love your site!  I second your recommendation of the neutrogena hand cream  I have extremely dry skin that turns into exzema in the winter.  My dermatologist told me that neutrogena Norwegian formula was the best over the counter hand cream.  It is a bit expensive, but just a wee bit goes a long way.  Keep the pics of the kids and the dog  coming!
Love these favorite things posts! Bought the St Ives today.  Can’t wait for next month’s post!
For my daughter (13mo) we use Novaferrum’s liquid multivitamin with iron (she’s mildly anemic so we have to give her iron right now). It is WORLDS better than Zarbee’s liquid multivitamin. It actually tastes good and she sucks it down! Highly recommend it for infants. I’m sure Zarbee’s gummies are better than their liquid.
Going to check out those PLAE shoes!
My hands get so dry in the winter – I found Skinfix Ultra Rich Hand Cream – I get it at Target. It’s expensive so I only use it at night & use Neutrogena hand lotion during the day.
I also take vitamins – Nature Made for Women 50+ can’t get more specific than that!
Hi Michelle! I can’t be 100% sure but I also think Honest Gummies and Vitafusion are peanut free. You might want to check them out. I just started taking the Honest kids calcium because it’s so hard to find a good calcium supplement that isn’t giant. I love the Neutrogena hand lotion as well, but the Kiehl’s has totally saved my skin. For the first time in about a decade my hands are not splitting and bleeding.
I have had a couple of pairs of the Sorel Joan of Arc waterproof wedges for two seasons now and I am with you…THE most stylish comfortable fowl weather shoe ever!!! Mine are the laceup styles.
Buying tip: check out 6pm.com for great prices on them cuz they are spendy at the regular price :)
I like seeing favorites posts. Â It is interesting and also gives me ideas for things I might like too. Â We actually have some of the same favorites! Â My family loves Bombas socks and I use Neutrogena Hand Cream all the time. Â Might have to try that St. Ives stuff you like. Â I’ve been looking into Plae shoes for my youngest son and this motivates me to get some for him. Thanks for sharing your favorites!
YES to Plae shoes! My mom and I discovered them back in November for my 4 year old twins who wore out the toe of their Nike’s so quickly last year. These have held up incredibly well and the toe is really sturdy and hasn’t worn at all!Â
I’ve been a Bombas socks fan for years. My first pairs lasted over 2 years and I wear them practically every single day. And they don’t slide down in shoes. Expensive? Yes. Worth is? HECK YES!
Love the idea of a Favorite Things post once a month. The Internet makes so many products accessible and it great to see what others are finding, using and enjoying. Thanks, Michelle!
I am in complete agreement with you on a couple of these items! Â The Neutrogena hand cream is THE best for winter hands. Â Practically heals them overnight! Â Amazing, comforting stuff for sure. Â That Smartfood white cheddar popcorn is so good! Â I could eat the whole bag in one day, which is why I don’t buy it too often – to save me from lack-of-self-control self when it comes to this popcorn.
That jacket for Joseph also comes in women’s (and men’s) too. Â Have you thought about getting one for yourself, Michelle? Â The Bean ultralight 850 is the only coat I wear now,. Â They are so warm even on these terribly cold days we had a few weeks ago. Â And there is no bulk or weight to them (they even pack up into themselves through an interior pouch). Â Seriously THE BEST winter coat on the market.
I can’t take my eyes of those boots . . . Â great to have your enthusiastic recommendation. Â I may have to look into a pair. Â That tread looks very worthy of snow and slush. Â When I first saw them, I didn’t even think ‘wedge’. Â They look like a flat, (until I saw where the heel of the boot is) . Â Sorrel makes quality products too.
Have been curious about the Bombas socks. Â Good to read of your thoughts on them too.
Great post today!
Dont’ listen to the people that say vitamins are not important. We do not get all the required nutrients from our food in this day and age. Please keep giving the kids vitamins and make sure you are getting all your vitamins while you are pregnant because that is where the healthy children start.
I second the vitamin taking! My dad always made us take them growing up but I gave up doing that when I became an adult – not a fan of swallowing pills. Then I got super sick after a really stressful year and the only thing that actually made me healthy again was taking a daily vitamin and airborne. A girlfriend made fun of me bc her Biology professor had done a whole lesson in college on how worthless they were – until she kept getting sick and I made her start taking vitamins and airborne too. My theory is, the vitamins fill in the gaps that my body needs any given day – and it’s smart enough to know what to do with any extra nutrients it didn’t need.
I’m glad you’ve found something for your kids!Â
