Friday Things
1. Joseph has been a busy bee and is mastering all kinds of new things. He’s had that shapes box since Christmas, but it wasn’t until last week that he actually started trying to get the shapes through the top. He has so much fun with it… he’ll walk over to me with a shape in one hand and the lid in the other :)
He’s still loving his swim classes! It’s been six months since we started and the change in him has been so dramatic. At the first few classes, he just sort of stared blankly at everyone, cried when we did something new, but week by week he started to come out of his shell. He’s now the oldest one in the class and a total HAM! He loves going under water, gets excited for all of the different exercises, high-fives the instructor… it’s so fun to see. My husband came to watch our class this week and snapped some pictures of us :)
2. Today, I turn a whopping 3-6. How did I get here so quickly?! It’s especially alarming when I remember that I was a freshman in high school when my mom turned 40. Insane! I plan on spending today with my favorite boys, my mom and sister, and in-laws. I’m going to eat my favorite burger, indulge in my favorite cake, and not do much of anything else ;-)
3. I adore this four seasons finger paint tree – it’s so pretty, and a great keepsake.
4. I loved reading about this restaurant-style soup kitchen in Kansas City. What an amazing idea the whole way around!
5. Oh my gosh, these recipes!! >> 13 Game-Changing Ways to Eat Girl Scout Cookies
6. I’m almost done with my Konmari closet purge! All that’s left to do are accessories, bags and shoes, but the clothes are completely finished. I have SIX (starting on a 7th) kitchen-size garbage bags full of clothes and 107 empty hangers ??. Next up is actually organizing the closet and drawers! For any of you who have done the Konmari method – do you go the whole way with the folding??
7. Will you be celebrating Easter this weekend? We’re going to my mom’s for Easter dinner with a lot of extended family; I’m excited to eat ham, cheesy potatoes, and my favorite summer dessert.
8. How is your March Madness bracket looking? Mine isn’t TOTALLY busted, but Michigan State and WVU sure didn’t do me any favors! I still have six of my elite eight teams left and three of my final four. So I could still make a run!
9. We finally finished up the latest season of House of Cards this week…. and the end of the final episode just left me feeling so ugh. Kind of gross and underwhelmed. On a positive note, The Americans came back last week and I got back to loving it just as much as I did when the last season finished up. Plus, I’m slightly more enamored since finding out that Keri Russell (I was obsessed with Felicity!) and Michael Rhys are actually a thing off-screen as well, and are expecting a baby soon. Love.
10. TGIF! My furry boys cuddled up super close yesterday morning while I was on the floor watching Sesame Street with Joseph :)
Happy Birthday!! That is a wonderful picture of you and your son! I know how hard it is to actually be in the picture if you are the main one taking them!
Happy Belate Birthday!!
I turned 36 in November. It’s been an interesting mix of being more comfortable in my own skin since I hit my 30’s and being a little alarmed that I have memories of my mom beginning at about this age so now I can compare her 30’s with mine :) If that makes any sense!
If you haven’t already watched it I highly recommend you watch “I’ll Have What Phil’s Having”. It’s on Netflix. It’s a travel food show like Anthony Bourdain…except that Phil is actually NICE. You WANT to travel with him and try out all these interesting places he goes. He’s also the person that created Everybody Loves Raymond so he’s very, very funny. One of my favorite parts of each episode is when he skypes his parents from whatever hotel he is staying in. Very fun show :)
Happy, Happy, Birthday to you, to you… Singing you the Happy Birthday song from “Sprout!” Enjoy your day with your family. Joseph is adorable!
Hi Michelle!
I was hesitant to fold the Konmari way after reading her book but I gave it a try and love how easy it is to pull things out of my dresser now!! It took me a while to retrain my brain to fold like that but now it is second nature! Happy Organizing and Happy Birthday!!
Happy Happy Birthday! Enjoy every second today and all year.
Happy Birthday Michelle! Enjoy your special day!
Love your birthday menu (I’m a big homemade burger fan) and your choice of company. Happy Birthday! I’m going to try the KonMari method, ordering the book for sure. I did already start a purge because I had to clear my sunroom (that had become my junk room) to get the floor done and am still living with boxes I have yet had time to go through. Happy Easter! I am intrigued by the cheesy potatoes…are those the crunchy ones with Parmesan?
Have A Happy Birthday Michelle! ????
Happy birthday, Michelle! Eat lots of cake and soak up the day with your family. I love your Friday Things posts!

Happy Birthday Michelle! Hope you have a great day and a great Easter!
Joseph is so handsome in his pictures and I swear he changes and matures more every week! Great picture of you and him in the pool. I’m glad to hear his swimming lessons are going great. Duke and Einstein are handsome as always – such good doggies!
Happy Birthday! I hope that you have a wonderful day and a very blessed Easter!
Happy Birthday Michelle! I hope you have a beautiful day with your boys and family!
Joseph is getting so big. He’s a handsome little guy and the picture of you two in the pool is priceless. :)
Have a happy and blessed Easter!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It sounds like you have the perfect way to celebrate a birthday planned. Enjoy your day!
The Konmari method you mentioned intrigues me. I’ll have to look into it as I’ve no idea what it is, but I am in serious need of purging and organizing.
Your favorite summer “dessert” put a smile on my face. I have never thought of it as a dessert, but more of a “side” . . . that way I can have a second piece without the double dessert guilt ;)
And, Golden cuddles, well, simply the best. And they are cuddlers too! Even when I’m standing, mine will wiggle her way in between my legs, look up at me for some petting, then promptly lie down right there between my legs on my feet.
Joseph is getting so big! And more handsome as the weeks go on!
Happy Easter!
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day with your family!
Happy Birthday to ya! (( as Stevie Wimder would say in his song ?))) You’re still sooooooo young ??? I hope you have a terrific birthday today!!!
Joseph looks so cute!!!!! I always thought that was a great no make that a WONDERFUL IDEA teaching kids how to swim before they’re a year old ?? I learned how to swim when I was on high school many moons ago.
Love love love your Doggies.
Easter will be quiet over here ??? .Wel’ll be going out to eat ((Yes!)
Have a wonderful weekend and a great birthday!!!
Happy Birthday Michelle!!! I hope you enjoy your burger, boys and family! My grandchildren are 3 and 5 and not yet in swimming classes. I want to enroll them, my daughter is for the idea also. I was a bit concerned when we went to the pool last year in the deep side with my granddaughter who is the 5 year old. I was holding her the whole time of course since that was the deep area but even with me holding her she was a bit afraid. My grandson on the other hand, was wanting to move all over so he was the extreme opposite.
Something to look into right away, especially since Joseph is doing so well at it. Have a wonderful birthday and Easter!
Well, first of all, I wish you a very Happy Birthday, Michelle, with a wish for many, many more. However, if you think that “36” is bad, wait until you turn 66 — LOL!!! Insofar as purging your closets, etc. of extra items that you no longer need, I have been doing that very thing for the past couple of months in preparation for an upcoming long-distance move, so I know exactly what you are talking about here. At last count, I’ve donated no less than 12 bags of unneeded items that included clothes, shoes, handbags, and other accessories. (When did I think that I was ever going to wear all of these things???) My closet looks the best that it has ever looked, and I have made a vow that it will stay that way whenever we move to our new home several states away. Happy Easter to you and your family, and Happy Easter to everyone else who participate on this blog!!!
Firstly, Happy Birthday, Michelle!! You must eat your fave things today!!!
Secondly, I was laughing because I just finished the book, “the life-changing magic of tidying up” yesterday! I went to the store and bought some plastic bags. I’m trying to get the nerve to start today…..
As I was reading, I was all gung-ho, but now I’m not so much….Wish me luck!!!
Happy birthday, Michelle! I hope you have a great day :)
Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful day!!
Happy Birthday!!!! Have a fabulous birthday weekend!!!
Happy Happy Birthday Michelle!!! It sounds like you are going to have an awesome day!!! Actually, it sounds like a PERFECT day to me ;) I hope you & your family have a good Easter, as well. I bet Joseph will be fun this year :)
Happy Birthday Michelle — Golly 36 so many years ago. I have no idea what a Konmari method is :-( but I think my closets could use it. And Joesph reminds me so much of our littlest grandson — he just turned 10 months. Unfortunately we won’t see family for Easter — hopefully Easter is later next year. I believe holidays screams family!! Buona Pasqua!!
Happy birthday Michelle! Enjoy your day with your boys, mom & sister, live it up!! I am intrigued about this closet purge you wrote about, I may have to look into it! My bracket is a bust. I only have 2 of the final 4 left. On a happy note, we are headed to Houston Tx for the semi final and final games next weekend!!
I do like my drawers (and my kids’ even more) with things KonMari folder and upright so you can see everything. But you don’t have to do it all at once. Just start putting clean laundry away that way, and eventually everything will be standing upright (anything that never makes it in the laundry is clearly never going to be worn & can be donated).
Happy Birthday Michelle! I hope you have a lovely day and a blessed Easter!
