Easter Weekend Photo Diary [2016]
On Friday, Joseph helped me blow out the candles on my birthday cake. If I don’t make my own, this is the one I always want – the Oakmonter from Oakmont Bakery. It’s a layer of cheesecake and a layer of chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate fudge icing between the two, covered in chocolate frosting. It’s basically heaven. I really need to recreate it one day!
The Easter bunny came! We still don’t give Joseph sweets or dessert (I really don’t see any reason to at his age), so his basket was filled with a sticker book, two new board books, bubbles, a Mickey Mouse t-shirt, bunny ears, and I filled some plastic eggs with his favorite snacks – puffs, yogurt melts, and cheesy animal crackers. The eggs were the biggest hit, by far. He loved shaking them and hearing things rattle around, then trying to open and close them.
Joseph got dressed up in his Sunday best for Easter dinner at Nana’s house. He always gets a little overwhelmed at first when we’re around a ton of people, but he quickly warmed up and had a blast. My mom recently cleaned out her attic and found a ton of mine and my sister’s old toys, so he had fun playing around with new and different things.
He went strong all afternoon; we left a little before 5:00 and he conked out on the way home.
I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend with family and friends!
The Oakmonter is one of my favorite cakes too! I would definitely like to see you recreate it!!
Happy Birthday your cake looks delicious. Joseph is a darling little boy. I noticed in the picture of him looking out the window with his ears on that there is a wall plug that doesn’t have the safety caps in it.
Any of those at his level should have them so he can’t stick things in them. Kids are so inquisitive. It has been some time since I bought them but I think you can get them at a hardware store, the baby section of a store or maybe a grocery store.
Hi Michelle, Thanks for the birthday wishes! Actually, there are outlet guards on there – they are clear. We have them on all of the outlets in our home. If you look closely you can probably see a shadowy circle around the actual plug – those are the safety caps :)
Our little one loved shaking the eggs too. He is so cute with the bunny ears!
That sounds like a delicious cake! We gave similar things to our kids for Easter when they were younger. I’m glad you all had a nice Easter.
Thank you for sharing Joseph’s pictures—such a sweet little man. Takes me back to when my kids were that little.
Love your pictures! Looks like a wonderful Easter!!! So blessed, love reading your posts and receipes!!!
Love those adorable little ears!

That is the cutest bunny I’ve ever seen! Happy Belated Birthday!
Happy birthday, Michelle! Yes, you DO need to recreate that cake – and let us know the recipe!
Love hearing about Joseph’s Easter – and as always he looks so cute! Love the bunny ears!
We had a great time – my sibling and my husband and I went to my parents’ house – they are 84 and 88 – and had a wonderful day. We treasure those times with them – time is getting shorter nowadays!
Joseph is changing with every photo. So cute. Would love your birthday cake.
Cute little bunny you have there! Happy belated birthday.
Love Joseph’s bunny ears. He is so cute! I love the old Easter baskets. They are the best. There is something about them that takes me back instantly to Easters growing up. You should take Joseph & go to the Heinz History Center; the display right now is toys from the 50s, 60s, & 70s. I can’t wait to go!
Hope you had a wonderful day on your big day. You inspire me so much and I was even more thrilled to know that you are also 36 like me.
I really enjoy your posts and recipes and look forward to them everyday especially fridays where I get to share in your joy of motherhood. Something we also have in common. Thanks for being my inspiration.
That has to be your old Easter basket! Ours were exactly like it. One of my sons has it now. Brings back old memories!
Hi Nancy, Haha good eye! Yes, it was my old Easter basket!!
So glad that you had both a nice Birthday, as well as a nice Easter, Michelle, and great choice for your Birthday cake, because I have already enjoyed one of those Oakmonter cakes before. In fact, I have sampled more than my fair share of delicious baked goods from Oakmont Bakery. Just walking into that store gives me a huge sugar high :) :) :) Joseph looks so cute with his rabbit ears on, and he looks so sweet in his Easter finery. I ended up making a delicious Coconut Cake as our Easter dessert, as I am all about anything vaguely resembling Coconut, so all of us coconut lovers in my family were in Seventh Heaven.
Happy Birthday! You must have had a great birthday. The cake looked beyond yummy! Thank you so much for including us with pictures as Joseph enjoys growing up. Always make me smile.
Happy Birthday! Your birthday cake looks wonderful, can’t wait till you recreate it. Joseph is too cute, love his bunny ears.
Thank you for sharing the moments — we weren’t home to share with our grandkids. Joseph is so adorable. I agree 100% about kids and candy ( all sweets) .They don’t need it and why start them on all that sugar? Love the bunny ears.
Awww soo sweet.. Happy belated Birthday Michelle. Hope you had the best ever!
so cute …:) Happy Easter!
