Friday Things #502
1. This has BEEN. A. WEEK. First, let’s rewind because I don’t think I mentioned that last week, Dominic had pink eye. It cleared up quickly with antibiotic drops and no one else here got it. On Friday evening, Joseph started complaining of ear pain, and a trip to the doctor on Saturday morning confirmed an ear infection.
2. Then Isabelle woke up Sunday morning not feeling well and by Monday afternoon she was pretty sick. When I took her to the pediatrician, she tested positive for flu A. By Monday evening, Dominic had a fever. Because he still has a central line, a fever means a trip to the ER to have blood cultures drawn to ensure the fever isn’t from a line infection. We didn’t get home until nearly 4am 😵💫 He slept a lot the next day, then woke up at 5am Wednesday morning with another fever… back to the ER we went. He then tested positive for flu A, AND strep. Everyone has been resting and recuperating, and I hope we’ve contained the flu with those two 🤞🏻
Judith is just the sweetest cuddle bug, she always knows when someone needs a snuggle 🩷
3. On a positive note… what is your favorite holiday / Christmas tradition?
4. Does anyone have a Levoit humidifier? I’ve seen this 4.5L version recommended, and then saw there is a newer, larger version available, too.
5. I’ve really been trying to lean into this notion: “The imperfect project you actually complete is worth more than the perfect project you never finish.” Also, making little changes as I go along is more effective than waiting to do a great, big overhaul (on anything: the website, organizing something in the house, etc.).
6. Someone made over 1,000 Ina Garten recipes and shared their 10 favorites for dinner… of the list, I’ve only made one of them (the Easy Weeknight Bolognese), but I can’t wait to try more of these. Do you have favorites?
7. This is so fun! What’s Your Holiday Cookie Personality? I got Brown Butter Raspberry Shortbread.
8. Some great nuggets in here >> Creating a Slower Holiday Season
9. I think we have one more week before the second part of The Crown Season 6 drops; I can’t wait to binge the whole season… has anyone started it? What do you think?
10. TGIF! The fireplace is probably Duke’s favorite spot in the house…
We bought two Levoit air purifiers during the pandemic. We love them.
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry about the kids getting so sick, and all at the same time. I do hope everyone is starting to feel better. Hoping the weekend is relaxing for you!
I started from season 1 last week and love it! Halfway through season 2 now!
The episodes currently dropped of The Crown have been good. The actress playing Diana is spot on. There is a lot of dialogue that no one would have been privy to, especially surrounding Dodi and Diana. Poetic license….All that being said, I can’t wait to watch the rest. So sad this is the last season. Hoping everybody in your family are healthy and ready for the big day!❤️🎄🎅🏻❤️
You have had some week!! I hope you and your family are well now and stay well!! Prayers to your family.🙏❤🎄
The only Christmas tradition I have is going to church on Chrstmas Eve. I’ve been going since I was a little girl..
Michelle, here’s hoping & praying everyone stays healthy for Christmas!
It WAS quite a week for your family.
Judith!! Gosh, just love her. Picture with Isabelle…so precious & snuggling with Dominic.
Thank you for sharing snippets of your family life….it’s beautiful!
God bless!!!
Happy to hear you and your sweet family made it through the stress of winter germs and doctor visits and they are now well. Love “Nurse Judith”- she is the best!
Our family has many small traditions that have evolved or changed over the years- new PJ’s and Dad reading The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve when our sons were young, lighting Bayberry candles for Good Luck, and which team’s ornament hangs at the top of the tree after The Iron Bowl (living in Alabama with both Alabama and Auburn fans is interesting!)
Wishing you and your beautiful family a wonderful Christmas and a Happy Healthy NewYear!
What a week for you and the kids! I am happy everyone seems to be on the mend. Judith makes a good nurse :), it’s so cute how she cuddles up with the kids. I guess the good news, no one should be sick at Christmastime.
I have only watched thru season 4 of the Crown. I watched on DVD’s, and I have Netflix so I am going to see if I can find it there to finish the series but not until after Christmas, I just want to emerge myself in all things Christmas right now. There are so many Hallmark Christmas movies I’ve not see yet but have recorded on my DVR.
Was the easy weeknight Bolognase good? If so, I’d love to give it a try.
What is your Christmas menu?
Have a great week Michelle and prayers everyone is feeling better.
Hi Lucy, Yes, we’ve loved the easy weeknight bolognese, I noted some changes when I made it.
As for what we eat for Christmas, my mom hosts Christmas Eve and does the traditional feast of the seven fishes. On Christmas Day, we eat here and for years now, my mother-in-law has made the Ina Garten beef tenderloin and twice-baked potatoes.
Love to hear about your kiddos, before you know it, they will be gone, a empty nest is very lonely. Hang in there Mom, I pray every day for Dom (and another little guy fighting the big C) ty 4 sharing your pics with us. I know your children are so excited for Santa. Love your recipes also.
Hope all stays well at your house. Love seeing your family and your pets are beautiful. Enjoy your weekend and see you next week
My go to, from Ina, is Beatty’s Chocolate Cake or her Stilton crackers. Do you follow Trent, Store bought is Fine, on insta? He’s cooked every recipe from all her cookbooks. ❤️❤️❤️
Your photos, esp. The first of your daughter and dog by the fireplace look like a Norman Rockwell painting
Oh Michelle, sending you all the positive healing vibes, mums are superhero’s, hope you remain healthy while you look after your family ❤️❤️❤️
