Friday Things #598

1. Dominic has been feeling great since his last immunotherapy treatment. He missed one day of cross country practice right after he got out of the hospital, but has been going full steam ahead ever since. He’s been running, went to a meet, played in his first hockey games of the season, had trumpet lessons at school, had a piano lesson, and asked to sign up for Cub Scouts. He is living life fully, has so much energy, and it makes my heart so incredibly happy.
2. Isabelle isn’t running cross country, but she always wants to go to the meets because she LOVES playing with the little ones who are there. Last week, she played with the toddler brother of one of her classmates and legitimately had so much fun. She is so wonderful with little kids… she keeps saying she wants to either be a teacher or a nurse when she grows up and I think she has the perfect personality for either 😍
3. Jackie Kennedy’s favorite casserole sounds like a lighter version of noodle kugel… I need to give it a try!
4. The first half of this week was very, very rainy and cold and while not ideal weather, I am thrilled to finally welcome to fall season to this area. There’s something so enjoyable about taking a long walk in a sweatshirt and not getting overheated.
5. Have you read Theo of Golden yet? I loved it so much and just saw that it is being made into a movie with Tom Hanks starring as Theo!
6. We decided earlier in the summer that we were going to redesign the front room in our house opposite the dining room (the “formal living room”, gah I hate that term). Since Joseph was a toddler, it has been a playroom with IKEA cube shelves and one of those kids table and chairs sets. We realized the kids have outgrown that space, as Joseph rarely even plays with toys, everyone is too big for the table and chairs to do homework, etc. there. So, we enlisted the help of ChatGPT to help us reimagine the space where we could still have storage for books and toys the kids wanted to keep, but also turn into a cozy room where we could read, play games, etc. After some tweaking, it generated some phenomenal ideas and we’ve been slowly building out the room as we find the pieces we want for in there. I’m so excited to see the finished space! If you haven’t used an AI tool for help decorating or redesigning a space and you need some help, give it a try… this is maybe my favorite use of it so far!
7. My mom’s birthday is this weekend and I’m making the two things she requests every single year for her birthday – sausage, pepper, and mushroom risotto, along with chocolate chip scones for dessert.
8. We are so thrilled to have hockey on the TV again in the evenings! I swear it’s a comfort sound for me.
9. Dominic has been waiting for Toy Story 5 to hit streaming services since we missed it in the theaters, and I think it just released to Disney+ this week. Hoping we can snag some time to watch it this weekend!
10. TGIF! There’s nothing better than Judith couch snuggles 🩷

So glad to hear of Dominic’s energy-filled life!
God Bless Dominic and God Bless your family. It is truly a blessing to read great posts like today’s. Continued good health to Dominic. Such a great family.
Always enjoy your updates, but REALLY happy to read about all of the amazing activities Dominic is doing. Blessings abound.
I meant to say Dominic! But I love hearing about all your kids…I’m voting for your daughter to be a nurse!!
I’m so happy for Joseph
I’m so happy that Dominic is doing so well and has so many activities that he enjoys. Isabelle sounds like she would be an amazing teacher. Joseph is getting so very grown up. Enjoy the Fall season. 🍁🍂
Always love to here about the kids. Thanks you for sharing. Keep the faith
Reading about Dominic and his activities activities makes my heart smile.
He is such a resilient, strong , special soul. He deserves all good things as he grows into his life.
I so agree that you and your husband are wonderful examples of loving, suportive parenting for yoour three children. They are so fortunate to have you both as well as your extended families.
Sweet Judith. So happy to know she gets lots of cuddles.
Yes, Theo of Golden is such a wonderful read! Highly recommend! Your kids are the best examples of amazing parenting. Such a blessing to see them thriving on their own paths. I’ll have to try that Jackie casserole-sounds yummy! Happy fall y’all from SC!
I love the fact that your family is so wholesome and are all doing normal family things. I have 2 granddaughters (cousins) that are 8 and are in the same class in school. Like your Isabelle, they are in love with little babies. The mother of one of their classmates just had twin boys and my girls can’t stop talking about them. Whenever they have a chance, they love to play with neighbor’s babies. It’s a lot more fun than dolls! I wish you all good health and only fun ‘normal’ family stuff ahead.
Your mom has good taste, the sausage, pepper and mushroom risotto is delicious. I make it frequently.
I thoroughly enjoyed Theo of Golden. One of my favorite books of the year.
The original Toy Story was the first movie we took our daughter to see, and we have enjoyed all of the TS movies. She is 35 now and the whole family went to the theater to see TS5. So nostalgic.
Our three grandkids are in their mid-twenties now and they made the plans for the five of us to see TS5 because we have watched all of them together! Memories that lead to special activities yet today!
Also, Theo of Golden is a favorite book of mine this year too.
So wonderful to hear how well Dominic is doing and life in your household is moving at “child activity speed”! Love how Isabelle adapts so well – before teaching or nursing, I see babysitting in her future. 😉
I will definitely have to check into Theo of Golden. We are still in heat mode in the south and looking forward to hints of true fall weather soon!
Happy weekend to all!
Snuggling is the best!!
