Friday Things #376

1. We delayed Isabelle’s 2-year checkup because we were smack in the middle of quarantine and she wasn’t due for any vaccines. It’s coming up in a couple of weeks and I can’t wait to find out how much she has grown because she basically looks like a teenager. I’ve heard girls grow faster than boys but oh my goodness, she just seems so tall all of a sudden!
2. Every time the boys are outside riding their bikes in the driveway, they stop and pick off any roses that have bloomed on our rose bushes, bring them over to me and tell me they brought me flowers because they love me soooooooo much and for forever and ever and ever. Can they please just stay this exact age forever??!
3. We got an email with a list of supplies and some new student events for Joseph starting kindergarten and things just got super real! We’re still not sure what school is going to look like here in the fall (part-time in-person, fully online, etc.), but I just cannot believe that my first little baby is heading off to the big school 😭
4. Who owns a jumbo muffin pan? I don’t have one and am wondering if I should invest in one… thoughts?
5. I had a really good laugh at this:
Save This Recipe
6. One of my favorite summer desserts >> No-Bake Oreo Layer Dessert
7. What do you use for daily task management? I had been using Things but am not quite loving it anymore; prior to that I used Trello but abandoned that, as well. I used to be strictly pen and paper for to-do lists but I found it helpful to have something that I could put recurring tasks into, like giving the dogs their flea/tick, washing pillows, etc. How do you manage your lists?
8. I love the wonderful community that has sprung up in the Brown Eyed Baker Facebook Group – so many sweet people helping each other. Come on over and join us if you haven’t yet!
9. We’re still watching (and loving) Downton Abbey and got to the episode where tons of people got the Spanish Flu. I was all, why are they just going in and out of everyone’s rooms?! Why aren’t they isolating!? Clearly, Covid has affected my thought process 😂
10. TGIF! I hope you have a cozy weekend!

Like DrRandy and Carol, I have one and use it for mini pies, small cakes, popovers, little tarts, etc. It’s great when you want to make smaller portions and freeze them. I have a favorite cookbook called small batch baking that it is fabulous when you have just 2 people (but it will be awhile before you’re in that boat)!
Just to point out, I do not have a jumbo muffin pan. I was talking about the USA burger bun pan which I got from King Arthur Flour. At Amazon they call it a mini cake/cinnamon roll pan. It’s well’s are shorter and wider than a jumbo muffin tin – you can use it for muffin tops and scones as well.
yes, she looks so tall next to big brothers! i suggest outlook task manager, it works for us and has for a few decades.
I’m usually a pen and paper person but switched years ago to an app called Any.Do. Their free version is pretty robust and you can categorize stuff if you want, link it to their calendar app so you don’t have to plug in appts in two places and it shows up on any device you’ve downloaded it on – so it doesn’t matter if your phone or laptop is closer, you are looking at the same list. You can assign tasks to days, make them recurring, cross them off and have them stay or disappear, view a list of deleted tasks, undelete a task, and if you didn’t finish your list for the day, it automatically moves to the next day for you. You can also add sub notes to a note (so you list “groceries” and when you click on it, you can list out which groceries).
It’s as close to my paper notes as I can get. And it’s been so nice to not have the paper floating around and trying to remember where I put it or not have it if I’ve left it somewhere.
Hi Michelle:
Not only do I rely on you as a a source for tried and true recipes, but I enjoy your weekly updates on the children and critters in your household. Please continue doing exactly what you are doing and resist being bullied into changing. Everyone needs to research the founders and beliefs and motives of any organization before associating themselves with it or making huge cash donations.
Hey, Michelle. I’ve been very happy with an app called Colornote. I’ve been using it for years. It can be connected to other devices too. It’s got a calendar and an Archive to save tasks already done. Lots more features too. From your Pgh neighbor..Lee.
