Friday Things
1. Isabelle is such an incredibly happy little baby. Her face lights up into a huge smile when I poke my head over her crib in the morning, or when I get her from a nap. The boys still love her, and – *knock on wood* – she has been sleeping incredibly well the last few nights. She goes down between 7-8pm, gets up for one feeding then immediately back to sleep, and up somewhere around 6-6:30am. I cannot complain, I just hope I haven’t jinxed it!
2. Joseph had his first ever dentist appointment this week and he did absolutely fantastic. I really wasn’t sure how he would handle it, but the assistant who did the cleaning was phenomenal with him and he really could not have done better. I was so proud of him!
3. Poor Dominic had a run-in with our coffee table last weekend that resulted in a nasty black eye :( He only cried for about 5 minutes and then he went about his business running around like a crazy person. I’m always amazed by how resilient kids are!
4. My aunt was telling us about the Paul McCartney carpool karaoke episode, so I watched it on YouTube and loved it! (You can watch it here if you’re reading this in an email.)
I’m not a crazy Beatles fan, but my best friend in high school loved the blue album and we listened to it all the time. It, along with Aerosmith’s Big Ones and Pink Floyd’s The Wall, was one of the first CDs I ever owned, and it always reminds me of my friend Lisa and carefree high school days.
5. Did you see that Chrissy Teigen is coming out with another cookbook? Her first one was easily one of the best that I’ve bought in the last few years, so I can’t wait for the follow-up!
6. Do you have 4th of July plans? Tell me all about them! And might I suggest whipping up some red, white and blue Jello stars, a flag cake from scratch, or a red, white and blue berry trifle?
7. Have you been watching any Instagram TV? I set up a channel for BEB, but haven’t done any videos yet. Let me know if you’ve been liking what you see!
8. I bought animal crackers for the boys for the first time (what? how?) a couple of weeks ago aaaaaaaaand I might like them way more than they do. Addicted!
9. New Netflix that we’ve been watching – Longmire, which was originally on A&E about six years ago. Did you ever watch it? We’ve liked it so far!
10. TGIF! I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
I started watching Longmire when it first came on A&E- great show and the books are even better! You really get to know and understand the characters better.
Loved the carpool karaoke– especially when they were at the pub. Â
I’m not surprised that Joseph did so well at the dentist – he seems to be such an agreeable little guy.
Poor little Dominic – and poor Michelle! I bet that little fall scared you to death! Glad all is ok.
Oh, girl – you will LOVE Longmire – it ended a little weird, but I got it. And loved every single second of it!
Did you get the Barnum and Bailey animal crackers in the little boxes? If you didn’t, you MUST try them – they are the best ones! We bought some in a little bag the other day – my hubby never wants to run out now!
My youngest son was born on July 3 (he is turning 38) and we get to have him, his wife and son come to see us! They live in Memphis, we live in Arkansas, and he is a UPS feeder truck driver, so we just don’t see him much.
I am making “The Perfect White Cake” from Cook’s Illustrated and white bakery icing from a old friend. I can’t wait to see how the cake turns out. I’m also making homemade coffee mocha ice cream. I made this recipe fat free by using a pint of egg beaters and fat free evaporated milk! It’s actually ice milk, but is nice and creamy and my entire family and our friends LOVE it. It also contains instant coffee and my secret ingredient, OVALTINE! It is really, really good. We are also having baby back ribs (done in the oven), my famous baked beans with bacon, homemade scalloped potatoes and roasted broccoli (coated with parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs and seasonings). The feast begins on Sunday!
Have a great weekend!
How wonderful that you get to enjoy your son and his family! Your menu sounds amazing :) I did buy the Barnum and Baileys crackers, but not in the little boxes – the larger snack bag. But the boys would LOVE those little boxes, I know I did as a kid!
Longmire was filmed at a ranch about two miles (as the crow flies) from my home. Our rural area hosts a few film crews throughout the year. The Longmire crew was a joy to have around.
Oh my gosh, that’s awesome! What a beautiful area! I would love to live on 100 acres of nothingness :)
Omg! Longmire! I watched it on Netflix – loved the modern take on a classic western. Miss the show but they did a decent job wrapping it up and not leaving you hanging at the end.Â
Poor Dominic! Reminds me of the baby photo of my brother – who, having recently learned to walk, managed to fall down and scrape his nose up quite nicely just in time for official family photos. My parents have this baby photo of him (that hung in full 8×10 glory on the wall for years!) where he’s all dressed up for the photos and has a massive scab that totally covered his little nose. Fortunately, kids are resilient and I’m guessing Dominic isn’t even aware half the time of his bruise.
Jospeh looks like such a nice young man- he is growing up so well!  Isabelle is such a cutie – I’m sure her older brothers will have their hands full when she gets older!
We’re trying to figure out Fourth of July plans – I’m crossing my fingers for something low key and uncomplicated. Wish me luck! Lol!
I am ALL about low key and uncomplicated plans all the time ;-)
I love reading your Friday Things and seeing how all the children and the doggies are doing.
You have such a lovely family! I loved watching Longmire too. My husband and I have just binged watched the new season on Netflix of Luke Cage. I highly recommend watching it! Have a wonderful 4th of July!!

Scrolling down looking at the pictures, I realized many years have passed. I have been reading your blog since you only had one Golden Retriever. It’s been fun watching YOU grow!
Aww thank you!
My husband and I really enjoyed Longmire. Â We are currently watching DCI Banks on Amazon. Love watching your kids grow. Â Can’t believe how big Joseph is getting.
My kids ate animal crackers for years….even as teens. Â Our favorites were the chocolate ones made by Stouffer. Â
Michelle,
Just a heads up on Longmire, it will leaving you wanting more.
Ok – on the animal cracker note – are you getting the ones with the frosting and nonpareils? My 7 year old and 3 year old girls love them – but I had to stop buying them because I was eating them all!
Also, totally whipping up my 2nd berry trifle of the summer. Everyone loves that!
Hi Margie, Not the ones with the frosting, but one of my friends and I ate large quantities of those in high school!! SO GOOD!
Duke has his doggie smile on. He looks so happy with judith and she looks like she has always lived there. Judith scored to get such an amazing person who loves animals so much and her family. Doggie heaven there…love your blog
.the only one I read regularly.
Aww you are so sweet, thank you so much!
I enjoy reading your blog as well as seeing your babies as they grow! They are so precious!
Longmire is one of my favorites! I was really sad when we finished the series. Have a blessed
