Friday Things #500
1. I can’t believe this is the 500th iteration of Friday Things! Amazing! I think I began writing these a little over ten years ago. Thank you for being a part of this special space and sharing in my joys and hardships, sharing fun recommendations and stories of your own!
2. Saturday morning, bright and early…
3. Joseph started basketball practices last week and with the time change, I’m totally transported back to middle school and being dropped off at practice after dinner, already dark, and freezing!
4. YES! I love sharing books I’ve loved with others; I always pass off something I’ve just finished to someone I think would enjoy it. I’ve even handed books off to nurses and hospital staff when I’ve finished them at the hospital. >> Why I Love Paperbacks
5. And speaking of books, I finished Happy Place this week and absolutely loved it. A great, light read, and I’d give it five stars. (To piggyback on #4 above, I’ll be returning it to the friend who lent it to me, and passing on to her The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek because she hasn’t read it yet.) Next up on my to-read list: Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover.
6. Okay, one more little nugget about reading… when I finished Happy Place and marked it as finished in Goodreads, it threw up a confetti screen because I had met my goal of reading 12 books in 2023. I felt ridiculously proud! I know some people read 50 or 100 books a year, so my very humble goal may not seem like much, but after being away from reading for so long, I am thrilled to be back into it and am thoroughly enjoying getting lost in stories and characters again!
7. Last week I asked for toilet brush recommendations and SO MANY of you messaged me and asked me to share the consensus, so here it is: the overwhelming majority of people who commented and sent me emails said that they use the Clorox ToiletWand.
8. Every year it takes so much self-control to not buy all of the JCrew Factory graphic holiday tees for myself, Isabelle, and the boys. I LOVE them!
9. A quick reminder that there won’t be a Friday Things next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and know that I am forever grateful for the time that you spend here and the community we have built together ❤️
10. TGIF! Judith is always snuggling, ALWAYS…
I too love reading and am on Goodreads. I’m sure I’ve read more than 12 books this year but I’ve never had the confetti. Must look into that.
I love a paperback but I also love my Kindle. Paperbacks are great for sharing but Kindle books are cheaper. I found when I shared paperbacks, I got very few in return. Also, with Kindle or another e-reader, you can get free books via NetGalley and Book Sirens or even via the library.
I’m not sure about the Clorox Toilet Wand and it seems wasteful but I’m sure it’s a great product as so many have recommended it.
Happy Thanksgiving from 🇨🇦.
Happy Early Thanksgiving Brown Eyed Baker Michelle and family! I hope you enjoy your time together. I enjoy reading your Friday Things posts and look forward to them!
I’m still trying to decide on our dessert for the holiday – so many choices!
Congratulations on the 500 posts!
I’ve noticed the last two weekends, there’s no “Weekend Dish.”
I love the part of Weekend Dish, where you share recipes from other sites you want to try.
Are you no longer posting it? Or am I just not finding it correctly?Thx!
Have you read the other books Emily Henry has written? She went to college at Hope College where I went and I love her writing. You will love Reminders of Him. Really good book.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your beautiful family!! ❤🙏
I have read a lot of Colleen Hoover and have enjoyed them all. My daughter is a big fan as well. She was so excited recently because she had an instagram post up with one of her books and CH reacted to it. Made her day!
I also like the Clorox cleaners. I use them in between my cleaning person and they are easy and I don’t have to touch anything.
I got them for my son too so he has no excuse not to clean at his apartment at school!
OK I get the whole Clorox toilet wand thing. The problem is it’s more trash that puts itself into a landfill and will never break down ever. It’ll just take up more space and it’s filled with chemicals. That’ll go into the ground and just be there forever and ever. As much as people don’t like it, I put on gloves and use a Swedish Skor scrubber to clean the toilet. I think doing it this way does the best job because I can get every little bit of the inside of the toilet nothing ever gets missed. Also, Clorox toilet wand are an expense. It’s a lot cheaper to wash my scrubber and keep it under the sink with the rest of the bathroom cleaning supplies, I can just reuse it each time for cleaning that toilet.
I agree! More needless waste. I have a reusable toilet brush that I’ve had for years. It’s an older version of this one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Clorox-Hideaway-Bowl-Brush-with-Caddy-White/432294935?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=2258&adid=22222222277432294935_117755028669_12420145346&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-306310554666&wl5=9008134&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=432294935&wl13=2258&veh=sem_LIA&gclsrc=aw.ds&&adid=22222222237432294935_117755028669_12420145346&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-306310554666&wl5=9008134&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=432294935&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAu9yqBhBmEiwAHTx5p2pjguGhp6mVObIberLSZ96eVN-aTSBI0wB2N4MzZdsHJGbK9Ll3mhoCBPAQAvD_BwE
Happy 500 from a reader following you since before Joseph’s arrival. : )
Only problem with those graphic tees, is that I see something for a kid that I want (like the mountains), but not available in adult size!
I just finished the book, Nine Women, One Dress. Excellent, light read!
Happy 500! I have loved your blogs! Happy to be sharing your journey with you.
Happy Thanksgiving! I still remember your post from long ago about Thanksgiving week with your Grandma and out-of-town relatives. Seemed like such a cozy, comfortable family moment.
I wanted to mention that the Weekend Dish tab at the top of the page has disappeared and a site search yields no results. The only way I was able to find it last week was via your Insta Stories link.
Congrats on 500 Friday Things, love these posts! And for reaching your Goodreads goal! Do you have a public Goodreads for us to follow? Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Friday to you Michelle and congratulations on your 500th issue of Friday Things!! I’ve been following you for at least 4 years (maybe more)? I’ve lost track but it was several years before the pandemic.
I wanted to wish you and your entire family a very Happy Thanksgiving!!! Enjoy and relax and thank you for all of the Thanksgiving day recipes, I am going to look through them and make something new this year.
Your Judith looks like my Kimber. There’s a standard for the breed (as every breed has), but each dog has their own characteristics and Judith and Kimber share some of those characteristics. I love how Goldens enjoy their people. My Nelli, who just turned 9 yrs old, mothers my little grandsons like they belong to her. It’s a big Steelers weekend against the Browns. Go STEELERS! And of course, Let’s Go Pens! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, Michelle!
I love reading your Friday updates. I always make your recipe for stuffing on thanksgiving. It’s identical to my mom’s recipe, which was never written down. Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes and family life with your blog family. Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy thanksgiving!
