Friday Things #505
1. I hope that you all have had a wonderful holiday season, enjoyed a very Merry Christmas, and are feeling good at the start of this New Year! The kids had so much fun and it may have been my favorite Christmas morning to date, so much excitement ❤️
2. The day before Christmas Eve, we took the kids to a local model railroad museum and they loved it (especially Dominic). The last time we were there, Joseph was 3, Dominic was 2, and Isabelle was just a baby.
3. Everyone managed to stay healthy to celebrate Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and then two days later get together with my dad’s side of the family to celebrate. It was only me who went down a couple of days later with what appears to be a virus that mimics strep, so we had a low-key New Year’s weekend with lots of couch time (and me working on the new puzzle I got for Christmas!).
4. The kids are back at school and we’re all feeling like this holiday break was way, way too short! I still need to un-decorate the inside of the house; when do you take everything down? Right after Christmas? January 2nd? Epiphany?
5. Before break, a mom from Joseph’s class who had helped with the class Christmas party sent me a message telling me how polite he is and what a good kid he is, and it made my day. Hearing nice things about your kid from someone else is so special; I always try to remember to do this when I am around someone else’s child and they do something nice or kind, because I know how good it makes me feel to hear it!
6. What types of recipes are you looking forward to making in the next few weeks? I need to jumpstart my own meal planning!
7. I watched this movie so much in my 20’s! >> Behind-The-Scenes Facts You Never Knew About “You’ve Got Mail”
8. While home over break, the kids really enjoyed watching the World Junior Hockey Championships. It’s like a little taste of the Olympics :)
9. We’ve been watching a mish-mash of shows over the last couple of weeks. We finished Who’s Erin Carter? (loved it!), watched some new episodes of Shetland, Vera, and Annika, and we watched new-to-us Professor T (which we really liked, too). Did you find any great new shows over the holidays?
10. TGIF! These two are just the sweetest 💙🩷
Happy New Year to you and yours! I hope this year will bring joy, good health, and many opportunities to make happy memories.
I put up my small Charlie Brown tree and my manger on December 19th. Since it went up late I plan to leave it up until MLK day.
I downloaded the Goodreads App and joined the 2024 reading challenge. I set a goal of 50 books this year, not counting the Bible. I have already completed 3 books so I am ahead of my schedule.
I did not get cookies baked this year so I’m planning to bake some as gifts for Valentine’s Day. Ha!
I have no preference for what you should post recipe-wise. I pretty much enjoy reading all your recipes. I also enjoy the pictures of your beautiful children and sweet dogs.
God Bless you all. And, GO STEELERS!
Thanks for the link to the “You’ve Got Mail” article. I googled some of the video clips it referred to and smiled!!!😁
We’re leaving our tree up through Valentines’ Day. I’ll take down the Christmas ornaments and put on some Valentine’s ones, maybe add some homemade paper snowflakes. ❄️💕
P.s. difficult to leave comments, very slow, maybe because of ads. Might just be my ipad. Blessings!!
I love how the dogs paws are touching in the last picture. So sweet.
Happy New Year! I leave my decorations up until January 5 as that is the 12th day of Christmas and that’s what my mom always did. Having said that I’m a bit behind so still have a few things to put away today. I didn’t get around to decorating until late this year due to a trip for medical treatment for my cat, followed by Covid and then a cold so I was well behind with pre-Christmas prep. I’m happy to enjoy them for as long as possible.
I haven’t seen any of the shows you mentioned except Shetland quite awhile ago. I’ve been watching The Crown, Fool Me Once and have started the new season of Reacher and another Harlan Coben series called Innocent. I love his series.
The doggies are adorable!
I thought the same thing your pups holding each other’s paw. Happy and Healthy New Year!
Happy New Year! It was a wonderful Holiday Season (from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day). We leave our decorations up at least through the 6th of January. I always tell my family that the Twelve Days of Christmas only begin on Christmas Day and that we have 12 glorious days to celebrate; Christmas isn’t over at the end of December 25th :)). I so enjoy the days of Christmas that follow after all of the busyness of getting ready for Christmas Day. Isn’t the railroad museum the best Christmas treat? It’s so nostalgic and the details are so much fun. We go every year and this year we went earlier in December. As with you, I, too, need to get my meal planning ramped back up. On plan for today is a pot of chili to take off the chill on what is to be a messy weather day for us and to cheer on our Steelers and Mason Rudolph! I love the excitement today is promising. I’m glad you’re feeling better. I also had that virus with a sinus infection. A few others in my family also had it. Have a great Saturday and GO STEELERS!!
Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family and your pups too! I hope you are feeling better. We take down most of our Christmas decorations and the tree Jan. 2 Now the house looks bare.
So wonderful to see the photos of the family and the pets. Sorry to hear you came down with something though Michelle, I hoping you are feeling much better. As for decorations,
I normally wait for the first full week in January to put things away. The Christmas trees can only be placed curbside for a brief period in my state, so we try to coincide our holiday clean up with that schedule.
I didn’t watch any new shows, but did watch an incredibly moving film on Netflix called, Society of the Snow. It’s difficult at times, but powerful and speaks to the spirit of human resilience. I highly recommend it.
Happy, healthy new year.
Happy New Year, after this past year a blessing was in store. I am so happy for all of you and kids looked wonderful. Keeping you in prayer for continued healing and a forever remission
Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy New Year. Your kids are magnificent.
Oh my that pic of your dogs looks like they are holding each other’s paw. Tugs at my heart!!
Wishing you and your family a New Year filled with love, good health and lots of special memories.
Happy New Year!
My decorations always stay up to at least Epiphany as that is when the Christmas season actually ends. Over the years I have accumulated a number of winter themed decorations so I put those out when the Christmas goes down so the house does not look so bare.
Have a good weekend and stay warm!
THREE LITTLE ANGELS… HOW HAPPY TO SEE LITLE DOMI LOOKING SO GREAT!
DO HAVE A BLESSED 2024!
This was a great Friday things! Each section was informative, and all the pictures were so heartwarming! Great way to start off the new year!
Good Morning and Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family! The railroad museum sounds like a great place to visit.
I will be taking down my decorations today. I find it just a little sad to pack everything up after Christmas. Lots of precious and fun memories from year to year. I finished the last season of the Crown last night. It was such a great series and I would love to see it continue. I very much agree on hearing positive comments about your children from others. I remember the first conference with my oldest daughters kindergarten teacher and thinking this is the first time someone other than family has given me an honest opinion of her. Hope everyone has a healthy and blessed New Year!
I loved your comment about the mom who told you Joseph is so polite! It is great that you share your beautiful family with us.
I have binged on Harlan Coben’s Fool Me Once on Netflix and think you would enjoy it.
Happy New Year and Happy Cooking!
Loved the pics and stories about your children, Dom looks really good, hope he stays C free. Your children are growing up in a hurry, enjoy them now, the teens will be here before you can turn around. Just hubby & I now, so we eat chili, soup, meatloaf, etc for a long time when I make it, eventually freezing some. Enjoy your recipes, have a Happy & Healthy 2024!!
Good morning Michelle and happy Friday! The kids look so happy, what nice pictures of them, I especially love the picture of them with matching pj’s, how cute!
It’s always a bit sad when the Christmas vacation is over and everyone has to go back to the daily grind, so to speak. I have daily pick-up duties for my grandchildren and when I picked them up from school on their first day back, we stopped at ChickFilA for dinner to make that first day back not so bad.
I usually leave my tree up until the Epiphany, but this year ended up having to take it down on New Years Day, although, I have left my wreath on my front door and have left a few other small Christmas items up throughout my house that really can stay up throughout the winter to bring me joy and keep those happy memories going. I have a beautiful white ceramic Christmas tree I bought several years ago from Ballard Designs and it is plain white but lights up and gives a soft glow at night, it’s so pretty!
Happy New Year to you and your family. I bet you are hoping for snow this weekend, it looks like we will miss most of it here in Maryland. Have a great weekend!
