1. The kids are all officially on summer break! This school year seems to have flown by, and we are all ready to enjoy some slow summer days ❤️
2. Isabelle was a week and a half ahead of the boys and got to enjoy some park time while they were in school :)
3. I almost bought this cold brew pitcher last summer, but never did… now thinking about it again since I’m really loving cold brew. Does anyone have it? Thoughts?
4. And speaking of summer break, I remember the summer after 9th grade, I would routinely sleep until 11:00 or 12:00 and gosh, I can’t even fathom that now! It’s the only summer I remember doing that, but now if I sleep until around 7:00 I feel like I’ve slept in.
5. I began reading American Dirt after finishing the Abby Jimenez books, but haven’t gotten very far with it. Has anyone read it??

We have a Coffee Toddy (https://toddycafe.com/product/toddy-cold-brew-system) and love it. It makes a decent sized pitcher and can be used for cold brew or a hot cup of coffee.
I love the Oxo Brew Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker. I love it so much when my daughter took it with her to college, I bought another one for home. Bought it through Amazon.
I have had that cold brew pitcher for a year and a half and really like it. It is easy to make the coffee and easy to clean.
I read American Dirt as part of a zoom book club during Covid. I did enjoy the book though parts of it were sad and violent. The reality of what people do to get away from awful situations was a bit discussion point in the group.
Hey Michelle, I read American Dirt…it was torturous, but I kept hoping it would get better. It did not. I know a lot of people recommended it, it just wasn’t my type of story.
“American Dirt” was a good read. I felt it was a “mother’s love story”.
I’ve had that cold brew pitcher for over 2 years now, and have no complaints! It makes excellent cold brew, though I do add just a bit of extra cold water when I make an iced coffee..it is easy to adjust to your taste by doing this. It also has been through the dishwasher many times without problems. It is a simple system, but all you really need!

I have that exact cold brew and also the bigger size and I like it although it does seem to use ALOT of coffee grounds. You can adjust how strong you like your coffee by how much you add to the concentrate. The first few times we used it we were using it without diluting and it was too strong. Later read it more closely to see it’s not meant to be used straight (even with lots of ice cubes). Good luck!
I don’t have their cold brew pitcher, but have the takeya brand iced tea one, which is a similar concept. I love it! The best way to make and then easily store tea, so would assume the coffee one is equally good.
I bought mine direct from the manufacturer- they happened to have a sale on their site when I found them that made it much more affordable than Amazon!
I have that cold brew, but ended up purchasing a larger one when my husband decided that he liked cold brew. It’s best if you grind or purchase cold brew grounds.

American Dirt is worth your time to read it. The violence in the early part of the story is horrific. Her strength and struggles to provide a safe upbringing for her son may bring you to tears on occasion.
I read American Dirt and enjoyed it but afterwards realized that it makes the whole illegal immigration issue seem ok. Yes, the main character had a valid reason to flee Mexico but she did enter this country illegally. The vast majority of the millions of people invading our country do NOT have a right to be here and this book only glorifies coming here the wrong way.
I am really not trying to pick a fight with you, but the character in this story is exactly the situation of an asylum-seeking immigrant – she and her son would have been killed if they returned to Mexico, no question. The only reason she did not go to the border and apply for asylum (like the majority of people coming to our country do, and is legal for them to do) in the story is because she knew that it would mean that she would be found. It was probably complicated by the fact that she didn’t have their passports either. I will also add that if you think that this book “glorifies” the process of coming here, you and I read two different books. It has to be one of the most horrific experiences I’ve ever read about.
I have that cold brew pitcher. I will say the amount of water you can put in with the coffee filter part isn’t a lot, so depending on how much cold brew you drink in a day you might be making cold brew every two or three days, but it does work well. It is nice that the coffee filter with the grounds can just be pulled out rather than having to strain it with cheese cloth or another external filter.
Stick with American Dirt! It also made such an impact on me. I recommend the book to others a lot.
