Friday Things #529

1. Dominic will be having his quarterly scans next week… we are praying his body is still (and remains) disease-free. Thank you for any prayers or good thoughts you can offer up for him!
2. We spent last week kind of getting settled in after our vacation since we left just a couple of days after school was out, we’re sort of finding our summer rhythm. Do you have any structure to your days during the summer, or things you always do? The boys both did a robotics camp this week and loving it! That’s the only week-long thing we had booked for the summer, we’ll have mostly free days from here on out!
3. It has been insanely, ridiculously hot this week, and gosh, the forecast of 6 to 7 straight days in the mid-90s is why summer will never be my favorite season. Looking forward to next week when things will be a bit more reasonable, and we can actually enjoy some outside time!
4. If you’re trying to beat the heat, too, one of my favorite cold summer recipes is frozen hot chocolate!
5. A couple of weeks ago, I saw a reel that Babs posted about using cinnamon and cinnamon sticks to keep fruit flies away, so I tried it when we came back from vacation. I put one by our bananas on the counter and two more cinnamon sticks in the bowl of peaches that I brought home from Costco. Not a single fruit fly!!! I was astonished!
6. If you try to eat high-protein breakfasts and lunches, what are your go-to’s that are quick and relatively easy?
7. I love little nuggets from the James Clear newsletters, and last week’s had two that I saved. This one first:
“How should you measure your days? It’s easy to measure your days in dollars earned or tasks completed, but there are other units of measurement to consider:
- What would you do today if you wanted to maximize laughter?
- What would you do today if you wanted to maximize time outside?
- What would you do today if you wanted to maximize peace of mind?
Save This Recipe
What unit of measurement serves you best right now?”
8. And then this one:
“Move toward the next thing, not away from the last thing.
Same direction. Completely different energy.”
9. We’ve been watching Pennyworth (on MAX), which is sort of a prequel story to Alfred, Batman’s butler. To me, it feels very James Bond-ish, and my husband and I are both enjoying it!
10. TGIF! I hope you find a great spot to relax this weekend!

Praying for sweet Dominic.
Dominic is looking strong and I pray he is getting healed. He is strong to go through what he endored. I am getting Chemo and it is brutal. I know I had told you that I think about Dominic going through the same thing. It really helps me to do the chemo. God bless Dominic and all of you.
Thank you Linda, I pray that your treatments are effective and the side effects minimal, xo
Blessings to you , Dominic and all your family…protein breakfast and lunch…been making smoothies…water…swiss miss nonfat milk powder…whey powder…flax seeds…frozen fruit…such as a tropical fruit blend and frozen blueberries and a handful of kale or kohlrabi slaw…I know it sounds awful …but the I cant taste the kale or the slaw.
and if you need a pick me up…you can add a shot or 2 of coffee
with this heat…been living kind of like I am living in Spain…even though I am in Pittsburgh…get up early for my morning walk…get out the door before 6 a.m. do some chores before it gets too hot…have lunch around 1…take a nap….then as it cools down in the evening I get a bit more active again…but when it is still 90 degrees at 10 p.m. just stay inside in the a/c
Just wanted to add…I tried your sugar roll out sugar cookie recipe a couple weeks ago…I am a cookier…and they hold their shape…and they are great tasting ! This is now my go to recipe
I’m so thrilled that you enjoyed the sugar cookies, they are a big favorite in our house!
I love Babs but I had not tried her cinnamon stick trick yet. Good to know it works! I’m going to try the spraying vodka trick this week.
Continued prayers for your sweet brave Dominic. I’ve been adding cottage cheese (which I have always loved) to my eggs for extra protein. Also eating cottage cheese with berries and nuts instead of yogurt, which I don’t really love. I tried the cottage cheese flat bread that’s been all over instagram and it’s actually tasty and good for sandwiches.
Thank you for the frozen hot chocolate recipe! We are in the 90 degree weather as well! Wil definitely give this a try! Also, will keep Dominic in our prayers this week, as always!
Sending healing prayers and love to Dominic and your beautiful family. Enjoy the Summer.🙏❤🏖🎢🎠
I read to wash bananas to avoid fruit flies. Apparently they come from eggs laid on the bananas. Yuck! Praying for continued good health for Dominic.
Positive energy and thoughts to all of you. Dominic keeping you close in my heart; may your healing be complete and permanent. Happiest of summers to you all.
1. Praying for a positive report when Dominic has his scans next week.
5. I’m going to try the cinnamon sticks in the fruit, ground for the garbage cans, and the spray for mosquitoes. I hope it doesn’t leave a brown stain.
8. Move toward the next thing and not away from the last thing… Profound!!
Thank you
Dominic, sweet little angel, my prayers join a multitude of others … GO HOME FREE FROM ANY AILMENT/FOREVER…. and…. I KNOW YOU WILL!
Keep the faith sister as we continue to thank God for his healing in Jesus name
Absolutely loved today’s column – thank you for the uplifting words from James Clear – just what I needed this morning. And just put a copy of Pennyworth on hold at our local library – I really think my husband will enjoy it and had never heard of it. Prayers for Dominic!
I continue to keep Dominic and your family in my prayers. Your family has been through so much need some good things to happen.
I also agree with you about summer. I really do not like this extreme heat. I love to wear shorts and go in the pool, but for the most part, summer is my least favorite season. My friends all think I am “nuts”, but I like cold weather!
My prayers continue for Dominic’s continued good health. God bless❤️
Prayers that Dominic receives a good report! He is so precious, but then all your children are!
Love your Friday posts!
I’ve been buying ALDI’s Protein Waffles which have 12 grams of protein in two waffles. That’s the same amount as the Key Lime Greek Yogurt I also buy at Aldi. Both good options for breakfast.
Sending positive thoughts to you and your family💕!
Enjoy the summer!
of course, prayers for your dominic….

Praying daily for Dominic and that good news will be coming next week.
I can’t wait to try the cinnamon stick trick. I’m wondering if it will work on fungus gnats, I sometimes get with my indoor plants.
Huge amount of prayers for Dominic and your family.
