Friday Things #542

1. Dominic and Isabelle had orthodontist consults earlier this week; Dominic is on the “let’s wait and watch and see” plan. Isabelle, meanwhile, needs the works, sweet girl. She’ll be getting an expander next month and once it’s in for a couple of months, she will get a top set of braces like Joseph had when he was in first grade (I can’t believe it was that long ago already!). She needs other stuff, too, but nothing else can be done until she’s a little older.
2. Joseph is still on the road to tonsillectomy recovery over here. I honestly had no idea how rough of a recovery it is… his throat has been very sore, but I think his ear pain has been even worse. They did warn us that pain would increase around day 5/6 through about day 10 and sure enough, on Monday he was way worse than he had been on previous days, and he has been that same state of miserable since then. Fingers crossed that the next day or two are his turnaround days!
3. I need to get out some fall decorations! I don’t have a whole lot (I really just go all out for Christmas), but we do have one light-up jack-o-latern that we put on our fireplace hearth and Dominic and Isabelle have already asked about it, so I need to dig it out :)
4. I started reading People We Meet on Vacation this week; I’m only a few chapters in. So far so good, but it hasn’t totally captivated me yet!
5. I love to do little bits like this when I’m waiting on something in the kitchen! >> 7 Decluttering Projects You Can Do in 10 Minutes or Less
6. It’s officially fall! What are you most excited to bake? I have so many apple recipes and pumpkin recipes, there is never enough time to get to them all! Though the salted caramel apple cheesecake pie is one of my all-time favorites!
7. I’ve had the SiriusXM channel Yacht Rock Radio saved in my car for ages, and at some point last week it switched and I believe they call the station “Mom Jeans” and it is perfection! I think the official description is soft rock from the 80’s and early 90’s… everything from Taylor Dayne to PM Dawn and Paula Abdul, I love it.
8. Love this quick read about the season of restarting habits. I love the fresh start that fall brings; back to school and back to more predictable routines. However, I feel like we’ve (I’ve) stumbled out of the starting gate this year with our trip to NY coming just the second week of school, and then less than two weeks after that, Joseph having his tonsillectomy. It still doesn’t feel like I’m back in any type of groove, but love the part of the article where it emphasizes remembering that you’re always doing your best, with the capacity you have on any given day. A great reminder!
9. We’re currently watching The Killing on Hulu – it’s an older show (from 2011) but SO GOOD. I’m completely sucked in!
10. TGIF! This dog and her coziness is off the charts…

I’m thinking a batch of applesauce bars would be just the thing this fall!
Do you have a link for the NYC puzzle in the picture? We are going to start working on puzzles as a family and I love that one!
Hi Lauren, My in-laws passed this one along to me, which they got from a friend… I found it available here: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Buffalo-Games-1000-Piece-Night-Day-Manhattan-Celebration-Jigsaw-Puzzle/405525656
Ooooh the killing. You won’t believe how it ends!!!!!
Just finished reading the diamond eye by Kate Quinn. Such a good book
I love Yacht Rock Radio. Not sure why it is seasonal. Have not had a chance to listen to the replacement yet.
I found today that they moved it back to channel 311! Still available!
The Killing – don’t do it!!!! The last episode will make you want to throw something at your TV. Never been so angry at a TV show (of all things!) in my life.
Oh nooooo!
The killing completely sucked me in loved it, then they ruined the 2nd season. It was a show that actually kept you guessing i don’t understand why they ruin a good thing
Oh no! We’re still on the first season, so many twists and turns.
