Friday Things #583

1. This big kid lost his very last baby tooth a couple of weeks ago! I still have such a vivid memory of him cutting his first teeth when he was around 4-5 months old; he had one particularly fussy afternoon when it thunderstormed and I was trying everything to sooth him, and I can still picture it plain as day. And now, poof! They’re all gone. As they say, the days are long, but the years are short.
2. Loving on their baby cousin!
3. Our neighborhood was relatively quiet at the start of summer, but the kids have had a number of days recently where they have been outside with neighbor kids nearly all day long. I love it, it feels like exactly what summer should be! They ride bikes, play all kinds of sports in the front yard, make up games, eat popsicles, etc… it makes me glad they have kids their age to play with outside!
4. A good read >> 7 Everyday Distractions That Keep Us From Living Fully
5. Okay, I hung in there with The Paradise Problem even though I thought the initial premise was far-fetched (I still think it is!), but I’m nearing the end and I’ve really, really liked it! (Fair warning that there are a number of spicy scenes.)
6. August seems to be the time of year when zucchini runs rampant; if you have more than what you know what to do with and are looking for something other than zucchini bread or zucchini boats, I LOVE this savory treat >> cheesy zucchini and sun-dried tomato scones
7. My kids get so transfixed watching old Bob Ross episodes (especially when they’re home sick), and I get it, it’s so soothing to watch… Interesting article >> Why It’s Nearly Impossible to Buy an Original Bob Ross Painting
8. My boys are so excited for college football to start! Do you have a favorite school to root for?
9. We finished Dept. Q and are now watching a new season of Professor T – what are you watching?
10. TGIF!ย Duke literally stopping to smell the flowers ๐
I found it hard to get into Dept Q but I persevered and enjoyed it in the end. ย I havenโt heard of Professor T but will give it a go. ย Iโm currently watching Irish Blood and Summertide on Acorn having recently finished The Madame Blanc Mysteries.
I have a mini-veg garden with tomatoes and cucumbers in pots and strawberries in a raised garden bed. ย My property is xeriscaped so not many garden beds. ย My neighbour is growing zucchini amongst other things and Iโm looking forward to trying this recipe from my other favourite food blogger.

Glad you mentioned the Paradise “thing.” The minute it got weird I was out. Also not at all what I expected, but I’ll trust your judgement and try again.
We root for Duke and next year Hofstra, too. Both grands play lacrosse, though.
Have you watched Patience on PBS? So good! In fact, the opening theme music reminds me of Professor T. Loved that and Department Q!
Isn’t it just the sweetest when animals stop to smell and admire plants?! ย It just melts my heart every time. ย One of our kitties Betsy (who passed away six years ago at 19) used to love being outside gardening with me and she would sniff and explore all the plants. ย I loved that so much! ย Always made me smile.
Hi Michelle, well here in Los Angeles county, school has started already and that lazy rhythm that summer allows has all but vanished. I, too, love hearing the kids play outside, riding their bikes, swimming in the pool, ย or tossing a ball around, boy summer seems to pass faster with each passing year.ย
As you mentioned, college football is almost here and I couldnโt be more thrilled. A lifelong USC Trojan family and fan; Fight On! I hope your boys enjoy the upcoming season as much as possible. Thanks for sharing a slice of life with your readers.
Love Joseph’s Utah Hockey Club shirt! (I live in Clearfield.)
I always enjoy your Friday newsletters and your photos, but this picture of Duke is priceless!
Oh my gosh, that picture of Duke should be on a calendar!! ย You could enter That picture in a โcutest dog pictureโ contest! ย Iโd bet itโd win!! ๐ฅ ๐ฅฐ
We root for the Tennessee Vols all the way!
Duke is such a handsome boy. We lost our big guy about a month ago ๐ข
Oh, my, the children are growing up before our eyes. I had not heard that line- the days are long, but the years are short- but so very true. It made me smile to know your children are having a real old fashion summer enjoying time outside with each other and friends in the neighborhood- thatโs what it is all about. Thanks for the scone recipe. Canโt wait to try it. Love Dukeโs picโ-๐
Happy Weekend to allย
You have such a wonderful family. Thanks for sharing them. I love to read Friday Things.
