Salted Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies

I was moving along yesterday morning, having a perfectly ho-hum kind of Tuesday when my fellow Pittsburgh bud (and Pens fan) Allison sent me a link to these cookies saying she had a sneaky suspicion they would be right up my alley. We Pittsburghers sure do know each other well. These cookies were DEFINITELY up my alley. I bookmarked the link and then went about my work. And then I opened up the link again. Stared at it. Thought about it. Then I did a quick scan of the ingredients. A fervent mental check of my baking inventory confirmed that I had everything I needed to make these. Look out. Lunchtime came, and these babies were whipped up and in and out of the oven like nobody’s business. My obsession with chocolate and peanut butter continues with these gems.

These cookies help to satisfy a couple of cravings. First of all, the all-important chocolate and peanut butter. It’s pretty much the epitome of dessert combinations for me. And then we have the sweet and salty combo with the peanuts and salt sprinkled on top. It all comes together into one awesome cookie. The peanut butter in the cookie isn’t overwhelming, but it pairs nicely with the chocolate and creates a great backdrop for the peanuts. These cookies are thick and chewy, which I always adore. I made them much larger than the original recipe states, but when it comes to cookies, it’s go big or go home for me. I don’t do dainty cookies!

Salted Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies
Ingredients
- 1¼ cups (156.25 g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (43 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon (0.5 teaspoon) baking soda
- ½ teaspoon (0.5 teaspoon) salt
- ½ cup (113.5 g) unsalted butter, at room temperature, (4 ounces )
- ¾ cup (193.5 g) creamy peanut butter
- ⅔ cup (146.67 g) light brown sugar
- ⅓ cup (66.67 g) granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (180 g) semisweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup (73 g) peanuts
- Coarse salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- 2. In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
- 3. Beat together the butter, peanut butter and both sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes, scraping the bowl as needed. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract. Scrape the bowl. Add the dry ingredients and mix on low until just combined. Using a rubber spatula, stir in the chocolate chips and peanuts.
- 4. Drop by two heaping tablespoonfuls of dough, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart. Sprinkle a small pinch of coarse salt on top of each cookie. Bake for about 12 minutes, or until the outside of the cookies are set but the middles are still a little soft. Cool cookies on the baking sheets. Store in an airtight container.

Okay everyone, I run a bakery out of my home, and a bunch of stuff always soooomehow end up in my husbands mouth. ALL of these cookies, (and I made them balled and ‘criss-crossed” with a fork so they were much smaller, the way I like them to be, ended up with about 45) were sold in less than two hours. My husband has been making googly eyes at me ever since!
HUGELY RECOMMENDED, make, bake, and enjoy!!
Thank you so much for this recipe. I re-created this recipe for the Crazy Cooking Challenge’s Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe. My husband also said these are the best cookies I’ve ever made for him :) Thanks again so much :)

Oh, man, I forgot to even salt these things, and they were still supremely delicious. I used some almond butter I made last week and substituted cashews because I already had them on hand… Sooooooo yummy. Thanks for sharing!
Did you use salted or unsalted peanuts?
Hi Carolyn, I used salted peanuts.
This is not a recipe I should have looked at after finishing a morning workout. Trying to decide if I should put the child proof lock on my pantry door to keep me out or cave in and make these today!
Dutched or natural?
Natural. If Dutch is ever necessary for a recipe, I make sure to specify it in the ingredient list.
I have made this recipe quite a few times now and I love it!!!!! I substitute the peanuts for toffee though (sometimes peanut butter chips). The cookie is perfect, It is thick and chewy. My fiance doesn’t like chocolate cookies, so I also want to give it a whirl without the cocoa powder and see how those turn out. I love it. Thanks!!!!! :-)
Just made these about 1/2 hour ago. They are ridiculously delicious.
I didn’t change anything about the recipe but, next time, I might chop the peanuts into smaller pieces.
My only question is why didn’t I think of this?? I had a hard time not eating all the batter. :o I used crunchy peanut butter instead of peanuts and it came out great. Thanks for this recipe and for this site. Every recipe is golden!
This recipe is literally perfect! I didn’t change or omit one thing and I got a perfectly delicious cookie!! I’ve forwarded this recipe to a lot of people! Perfection! Thank you for such a fantastic recipe! :D ♥
Recently newly wed and a complete beginner to the baking game I really wanted to impress my husband with some wicked cookies. Everyone says they have the best recipe. They haven’t tried this one. It is amazing! Perfectly chewy and soft. I’m not a hugh sweet fan so the salty kick was a perfect balance. These cookies are not allowed in my house while I am pms-ing or they get brought into bed with me ;) They are going in my “forever” recipe file
Wonderful sinful looking cookies! Love anything salted :)
Wow, these look awesome!
I love salty sweet treats… Chocolate, and peanut butter? Yes, please!
I made these this weekend. =] My family doesn’t like nuts so I used peanut butter chips and they were still really good. =] Thanks so much!!
I think peanut butter chips would be just as good, if not better, than the peanuts! Glad your clan loved them!
Thanks for the suggestion! I am looking for a chocolate-peanut butter cookie to make this weekend, but am totally out of peanuts. I wouldn’t have thought of this, but I DO have peanut butter chips. Recipe printed, and on my “TO DO” list for Saturday morning!
Oh my goodness…amazing! I”ll have to bake these for my husband. He would love them!
Wow! You can tell how soft and chewy these cookies are by looking at your photos. Plus, the chocolate/pb combination is always a winner in my book.
yummy! hopefully i can find an hour this week to whip these up!
Gorgeous cookies – I love the salt in there!
Don’t hate me, but I hate peanuts! I live in Georgia so hating peanuts is almost considered a sin in this state. I made the cookies but used more butter rather than p/b and substituted pecans. The cookies turned out marvelous w/o peanuts and they were more crunchy because of the extra butta.
Thanks for sharing your adaptations Vicki! I love pecans :)
I love everything about these cookies- YUM!
This the perfect cookie for a chocolate peanut butter junkie like my son. I’ll be making these soon.
Talk about cravings..I am honestly sure this would for sure quench my craving…
Mmmm salted chocolate cookies….boy that sounds good and they look delicious. Yum!
Hi, I like to read comments on recipes. Why do the people that email you talk about how good it sounds or how
good it looks and can’t wait to make them. What I would like to hear is that they made them and comment how
good or not so good the recipe was. When I read comments on All Recipes, every comment is how good or bad or
how they tweaked the recipe to be better. Thank you, gloria
I made them but did tweek the recipe because I hate peanuts – love the idea and chocolate cookie recipe.
Gloria, Readers are free to comment about whatever they’d like here, but you will find that once a recipe has been up for a week or so and readers have had a chance to try it those types of review do come in.
A food BLOG is different than a food REVIEW website like all-recipes. I agree that the comments on blogs are not as helpful in helping you bake your own as a rating review. I did make these and they were close to perfection. The only change I will make next time is too add 1-2 tbsp more sugar. Typically I feel most cookies are too sweet, but these I actually felt these could be a bit more sweet. I also used 3/4 tsp salt in the dough and it seemed perfect.
I’m loving the chocolate/salt craze! Add in peanut butter and you have an ideal cookie! Love it!
These are next on my list to make! They have enough peanut butter in them to make a serious statement! And shockingly I have the ingredients already in the house:)
I want to eat these now!
My husband would FLIP over these. I have to make them immediately. Good thing I have the day off tomorrow! :) Thank you for sharing. They sound so good!
Yum! I love chocolate and peanut butter and that salty/sweet mix is always good. I can’t wait to try these!
