The Weekend Dish: 9/16/2017
A very happy weekend to you!
This week was going swimmingly until Joseph woke up on Wednesday morning sneezing up a storm. Within a couple of hours, it was evident he had himself a full-blown cold, and by the time he went to bed, also had a croupy cough. I woke up on Thursday morning with a sore throat and now have a nasty cold, and Dominic woke up yesterday totally stuffed up, coughing, sneezing, and with a runny nose. So far my husband has managed to remain the last man standing, hopefully he holds up! So needless to say, it’s been an exhausting second half of the week and we’ll be spending the weekend recuperating.
So let me live vicariously through you! How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I’ve bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

Great links! I love your recipe for the week, both the cookies and the jewish cake were delicious!
hope you’re all feeling better by now! thank for all of these links, had never seen Jewish Apple Cake before, looks wonderful!
Are you on the Zicam bandwagon? I had a cold at the beginning of the week that by Tuesday was a real doozy. I took Zicam that night and all day Wednesday and was well by Thursday. I had no sick days left to take so staying home was not an option. I think that drug is a miracle!
I’ve actually never taken Zicam, believe it or not! I’ll have to remember it for next time, I’m feeling quite a bit better, thank goodness!
I always enjoy the pictures that you post online of Joseph & Dominic. They’re really getting big. Here’s hoping that your two sweet little boys get better soon, and that you and your hubby stay healthy, too. Oh, the germs that little kids get whenever they first start school. My uncle always says that kids are like little petri dishes whenever they get together and go to school :) :) Take care!
I remember those days!! Â School starts and everyone is sick. Â Why is it the men don’t get the colds!! Â Wash your hands and towels a lot. Â Â I just made some pumpkin/apple (using two delicious Honeycrisp apples) muffins with a streusel oaty topping. Â Cider to go with. Â Fall must be here! Â Hope you feel better soon.Â
Somehow my husband and I seem to take turns not getting sick… when Joseph had croup earlier in the summer, Dominic got a mild version and my husband got a bad cold/bronchitis, but I somehow escaped unscathed. The tables are turned this time, but it sure helps to have one healthy adult in the house, ha!
I rarely go to the movies, but today my family is going to see IT. Can’t wait!! I loooooove scary movies. :)
Didnt you post a butter chicken video on FB?
Yes, but it wasn’t mine, it’s from the Cookies & Cups blog. My mom actually made that recipe a few weeks ago for a Sunday dinner and everyone enjoyed it!
Oh, the joys of starting school! Â It’s wonderful in so many ways, but the sharing – the sharing can be tough – all those germs that catch a ride home with the scholar and his ability to share with younger brothers and mom and dad – My eldest was THE BEST share-er of germs!! Â Not always his special toys so much, but his little brother got to have every germ the big brother could find!!
Hang in there, you’ll get to “enjoy” lots of new bugs, especially at the start of this year, but eventually, things will level out and you’ll go back to enjoying fun things again!! Â And the added bonus is that Dominic won’t be as affected when it’s his turn, since Joseph will have started him off so well!!
And if you don’t smile about it, you’ll get too sad, so it’s better to find the good and keep on moving along!! Â
