Friday Things
1. My husband took Joseph to his parents’ house last week and he found my husband’s old Dukes of Hazard cup from when he was a kid, and apparently he carried it around the entire time he was there. He is now obsessed with this cup and is eating almost all of his snacks out of it. Also, he points to Daisy Duke and says, “Ba Ba?” Brownie points to my oldest for thinking Daisy Duke looks like his mama ;-)
Dominic has been doing great! We still haven’t had any insane nights, which I’m beyond grateful for. He’s been pretty consistent waking up twice, which, although I’m tiiiiiiired, is totally manageable. We’ve found that so far he and Joseph have been mostly opposite in terms of what they prefer, things that soothe them, etc. Probably just the beginning of seeing how different they will be!
2. It has been downright blustery here the last few days and I cannot get warm! We’ve been running the fireplace a ton and I’ve been taking piping hot showers, which feel amazing, but leave me with seriously parched skin. I might need to invest in a Snuggie… are those still around?!
3. When I came home from the hospital with Dominic, a big tin from The Popcorn Factory was waiting for me. As soon as I opened it, I was immediately taken back to the mid-80’s… the smell hit me like a ton of bricks. The mixture of butter, cheddar and caramel popcorn reminded me so much of the tins my dad used to bring home from work every year around Christmas. I felt like I was sitting in the living room at our old house, watching Christmas movies. (We got a Steelers tin, and they have all of the NFL teams!)
4. And because three different types of popcorn apparently isn’t enough, it just made me crave a big bag of kettle corn from our local orchard. I need to make a trip there to get some!
5. Ina Garten’s new cookbook, Cooking for Jeffrey, came out this week and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! I’ve adored Ina since the first time I laid eyes on her Barefoot Contessa show, and I’m loving all of the press for her book. Some of my favorites this week >>

6. One of the things I’m working on getting done before the end of the year is a digital cleanup of my laptop. I have files everywhere and it’s driving me bananas. A couple of good resources that I’ve found in case you’re in the same boat:
5 Ways to Unclutter Your Digital Life // Downsize Your Digital Life
7. These peeling tricks are outstanding!
8. Our DVR has been pretty barren lately, with most of our favorite shows still on hiatus. The Blacklist is the only thing we’re currently keeping up with, but we recently started watching Bull on CBS. It’s pretty decent and is a good way to fill a little of the TV-watching void.
9. It’s Halloween weekend! Are you having a party? Going to one? Watching scary movies? (I hate them!) Are you dressing up? Tell me about your costume!
10. TGIF! I hope you have a warm and cozy weekend!
Have you tried the new show ‘Designated Survivor’? It a great show!!!
Hi Pat, We did give it a try, but just didn’t love it.
Hosted and lived through a kids Halloween party. It rained here in Vegas most of the day, but thankfully cleared up right before the party :-) your boys are gorgeous, I love your choice of names for them.
I just saw this online and just had to share.
I love the look of recognition on the Golden’s face in the first few seconds.

Snuggies are well worth it. I used to make fun of them, but after getting one as a gift, I find I use it all the time when it is chilly out.
Luv the pictureshows of your beautiful family. Thanks for sharing
Also here to recommend “This is Us”. SO GOOD!!!
Forgot to mention…this is a show that MUST BE WATCHED FROM THE BEGINNING. (not that any sane person would just randomly start 5 episodes in, but you never know…lol)
This is Us has replaced the void of Parenthood for me. Love this Show. Also, we love Designated Survivor.
I’m jumping on the This Is Us bandwagon with everyone else. I know you’d love it. It’s so great!
I was going to recommend “This is Us” also. Great show! Really liking “Pitch” too.
Skip the Snuggie and get the Sherpa at Costco…it is $15 and you will be warmer than ever! Best cover ever. Also…we have 2 girls and everything jas been opposite. It is nuts (but also wonderful) how different they can be!
My daughter LOVES her sherpa. So soft and cuddly. Recommend it!
I am definitely looking for this the next time I’m at Costco!
Joseph is getting so big! Isn’t it funny what they latch onto and have to have? Baby Dominic is just precious. You two make beautiful babies. How is Duke doing with all of the changes in your house?
I am watching This is Us and I really like it. I relate to Kate a lot because of my own weight struggles. I like the guy who plays Randall and I liked him in Army Wives too. I am also watching The Middle, American Housewife and The Goldbergs. The Goldbergs and the Middle crack me up and my son likes them. I am still on the fence with American Housewife. I like the mom, I just haven’t warmed up to the show yet. Try it, you might like it. My other TV show I watch every single Sunday and my son gets to play an extra hour of video games is Once Upon a Time. The writing has been up and down, but I still love the show.
Have a great weekend and enjoy those darling boys!
Aww thank you for the sweet words! Duke is doing pretty well… he’s definitely adopted a little bit of Einstein’s personality in his absence.
How does “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” sound to you? That is what’s on my agenda for tonight. That’s it for Halloween “movies” for me. I’m ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas movies, but do not want to rush the holiday season as it goes by so quickly.
Your boys – a 3 of them – are adorable. Very happy for you that all is going well. Enjoy these days, even the tired parts. While Joseph and Dominic both have a gorgeous head of hair, I do think Dominic looks like you. Does Joseph look like your husband?
Have a great weekend – I think Indian summer is coming our way!
Ahhh Charlie Brown is perfect for this evening! Thanks for the heads-up!
Actually, if you look at baby pictures of me, Joseph’s face is a spitting image, and Dominic looks EXACTLY like my husband’s baby pictures! I’ll have to do some side-by-sides and post them! :)
Too funny, I was just thinking the same thing about Dominic looking like Michelle! I also love the Charlie Brown suggestion. Hallowe’en is only starting to become bigger in Australia.
Your little babies are so adorable. Is Joseph left handed ??? Dominic looks just like you. Wow! Such a warm and sweet photo of your doggy ???
Have a great weekend and be warm.
Thank you so much! Joseph IS left-handed! :)
The pictures of Joseph and Dominic are too cute! Both handsome boys. I too am suffering from not much on TV – a lot of the shows I used to watch have either been cancelled or the story lines have just gone downhill – either way I need some new stuff too. I really haven’t tried any of Ina’s recipes – I’ve just always thought they were complicated – maybe I need to give them another try. Try to stay warm!
So much better (and warmer!) than a Snuggie. If it were socially acceptable I would live in this thing:

OMG, THAT. IS. AWESOME. I keep telling Dominic that I want a fleece swaddle like his to sleep in. This is basically the adult equivalent! LOVE IT!
If you can find it on the schedule of your PBS station, I highly recommend
Hamilton’s America. It is a documentary about the 7 years creative process leading to the “birth” of the musical “Hamilton”. It is amazing…Lin Manuel Miranda is pure genius and so likable and relatable. I have watched it twice and really want to see it again.
Duke looks so contemplative in that photo. I wonder how he is doing these days?
Finally, have you seen the short clip of your quarterback greeting my quarterback on the field pre-game last weekend? It just goes to show even players can be fans of each other. Two grown men acting like grown men and showing each other respect.
Have a great weekend…stay cozy.
Duke is doing pretty well, he seems to be adjusting to being the only dog for the time being. We still feel bad for him, though :(
I did see that clip!
Love the post! In regards to not being able to get or stay warm I would suggest you make sure you are not anemic. Having your thyroid checked would be a good idea also. It’s just a simple blood test but are issues that woman should rule out after childbirth.
Have a great weekend!
I am anemic! I was with both of my pregnancies and it takes awhile after birth to get back to normal. I take prescription iron supplements everyday. I had no idea being so made you cold, though!
Oh yes, and I know from personal experience it’s a cold that you can not escape from. I also took prescription iron medication but had trouble tolerating them so I was given an iron infusion which resulted in immediate results and warmth:)
Cute photos of your boys and gorgeous photo of Duke! Wow, he’s looking very Regal. Has he adjusted to life as the single four-legged family member?
Haha! I think he was staring at Joseph eating, waiting for food to fall when that picture was taken ;-) He seems to be adjusting well – his personality has definitely changed a bit – taken on a little more of Einstein’s previous role.
Those boys are adorable! I hear you about staying warm and snuggle, my patio is covered in about 4cm of snow this morning?
Whoa, snow! Where are you located?
Put This is Us on your DVR. It’s incredible. Episodes should be on demand. Do you have software that you use to organize your photos? I previously used Picasa but the discontinued it. Love the pictures of the boys!
Hi Vicki, I don’t have any photo storage/organizing software. It’s a DISASTER!!
I just watched the first 4 episodes of This Is Us yesterday love it! If you haven’t seen it yet it’s worth watching! Wish it would get cold and blustery in Dallas still in the 80’s and 90’s …and yes snuggies are still around! The boys are so handsome!!
YES!!!! I agree with everyone who suggests it. It’s the PERFECT show for our age group, I know you’d love it Michelle!
The pictures of your boys are so precious! Are you watching This Is Us? So good and set in the Burgh. Have a great weekend.
I second the suggestion for This Is Us!!! I Love it!
Thank you!! I haven’t seen it yet, but it seems like everyone is talking about it, I need to check it out!
It is great show for sure. Also recommend Designated Survivor and Speechless. These are my 3 favorite new shows.
In case you need some more shows!
