Friday Things
1. These two characters are really starting to enjoy each other’s company. Dominic lights up like a Christmas tree anytime Joseph looks his way, and Joseph is always making sure Dominic has whatever he needs. If Dominic is on the floor, he brings him toy after toy to play with, if he’s in his high chair, he brings his plastic keys (Dominic loves chewing on them), he wipes his face with a burp cloth if he’s drooling… It’s just awesome to watch the two of them together, it makes my heart so happy ❤️
2. Dominic started swim lessons yesterday! He’s a couple months younger than Joseph was when he began, but he did really well… no crying and he seemed to enjoy being in the water and splashing around. Success!
3. We’re planning to dye Easter eggs with Joseph either today or tomorrow; my sister and I were always total bums when it came to dying Easter eggs. We’d do like two and get bored and leave my mom to finish the rest. It’s still not one of my favorite activities, but my husband convinced me that it’s a must with Joseph ????
4. How cool is this United States scratch watercolor map? You can scratch off the states you’ve visited, and it reveals gorgeous watercolors. This would be an awesome gift for someone who loves to travel!
5. Have you heard of the Cookie Dough Cafe? They make cookie dough for the sole purpose of eating it unbaked (so no raw eggs, and heat-treated flour)… I love to steal a spoonful of cookie dough, but I’m not sure I could eat an entire container of it! I think there are shops like this now, too? Like you can get it in a cone and with toppings!
6. An Engingeer Explains Why You Should Always Order the Larger Pizza >> Was there ever a question?
7. Did you watch the Homeland finale last week? What did you think? I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I was stunned at first, and now I’m just like, WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?? Also, I feel like this season was only like 3 episodes long – I need more!
8. Next to Thanksgiving through New Year’s, this is my favorite time of year – the NHL playoffs are here! I’m admittedly not expecting the Penguins to repeat because it’s insanely difficult to do, but I’d love to see them make another long run!
9. What do you have planned for Easter? We’ll be feasting on the traditional lamb, ham, potatoes and sides. Bring on the mint jelly!
10. TGIF! I hope you have a fantastic holiday weekend!
I bought a black & white world map for a 95 yo relative so he could mark all of the places he’s visited (it came with color markers). He hung it on the wall at his assisted living facility & loves it.
I’m so glad the boys love each other so much. Please share photos of the eggs you & Joseph decorate & have a Happy Easter!
I haven’t watched this season of Homeland yet for some reason – I will soon though. The picture of Joseph and Dominic at the table is so cute – glad to hear that they are getting along so well. Family dinner for Easter with a ham:) other than that no big plans – no egg dying for me…lol…I’m really not a fan of cookie dough for some reason so I probably would not enjoy the cafe. Such a cute picture with Dominic and Duke! Have a great weekend
Be sure to take pics while you dye eggs. I love to look back at those memories of egg dying and Christmas cookie decorating. My children are 27 and 25 now and I miss those days. They fly by so quickly. ENJOY
Happy Easter to you and your family, Michelle. Your boys are so adorable and always smiling….happy little guys. Happy eating all the goodies you will be making.
Your boys are so stinkin’ cute! Dominic’s cheeks, so cute! I must say, the picture of Duke and Dominic is priceless. You can tell they have a great relationship. Easter egg dying…we don’t do it. Drew hates his hands being dirty or messy and now that he’s 11 1/2 it’s not cool anymore. Fine by me, I honestly never cared for doing it. I do hard boil eggs though. Easter is not Easter without deviled eggs on the table.
My son is old enough now at our church, he is participating in the Easter re-enactment of the crucifixion and resurrection. He’s excited to be part of this with his friends and youth leader. We’re having a honey baked ham this year. I got a GC for one for Christmas, and have been saving it for Easter weekend. So excited! By request from Drew, he wants my Christmas rolls not my easy Tupperware rolls LOL :) I admit, they are delicious, they just take a lot longer to make. We will have deviled eggs and we’re going to make those cinnamon apples that are just delicious, and scalloped potatoes at my dad’s request.
Have a very blessed and happy Easter! <3
About dying Easter eggs…a few years back in started dying them with my daughter using cool whip & dye. It’s easy, fun, & if eaten, no harm! Also, the eggs can be eaten, unlike with shaving cream, which is the method you’ll find when you look it up. Basically you put the cool whip in a 13 x 9, drop in some colors, not too close, then swirl the colors. Roll your eggs in so they are covered well. Let the eggs sit like that for at least 5 mins. Then wipe them off with a paper towel. They look tie dyed & are really pretty!
I just saw a video of this method on Facebook and I’m definitely doing it next year! I already bought the egg coloring kit for this year, so I might as well use it :)
I am planning on making your strawberry rhubarb cream cake for Easter. However, fresh rhubarb is just not ready. I stopped at 2 different farm market stands yesterday in search of it; both said it’s not ready for another week or 2. So, I didn’t head to Soergels or Shenots thinking it’s a more time consuming trip to be told the same thing. So, where do you get frozen rhubarb? I checked at GE and they didn’t have it. I’m thinking my cake may be a strawberry only cream cake . . .
Hi Michelle, I got fresh rhubarb at the Market District Giant Eagle in Wexford last week! I never looked for frozen so I’m not sure if they have it or not. I hope that helps!
Yes! This is a great help. Why did I not think of Market District?!? Here’s to hoping the one in Fox Chapel has it too as I’m closer to that one. Have a Happy Easter tomorrow.
Those boys, they are just SO cute and better yet seem so loving! Happy Easter to you and the whole family.
I LOVE your Friday Things Posts! You make me smile with your beautiful family and wonderful recipes. Keep up the good work!
Happy Easter,
Bonnie
Duke seems to have found a new buddy…and Dominic has a real, live furry friend. Such a cute picture.
I am not sure about the whole cookie dough craze. The Chew profiled a place …bakery?…in NYC called “Dough” . It sells eatable cookie dough in lots of different flavors. Customers can purchase a cone, a sundae, a giant stuffed cookie dough cupcake thing…many more options available as well. I love raw cookie dough but a soon full is more than enough to quench any craving I might have.
I hope you and your family have a delicious and fun filled Easter.
I feel the same way about Homeland…..can’t believe the season is over. I’m bummed that Quinn died. He was my favorite character…..excellent actor.
