Friday Things #337
1. We’re two weeks into the school year now (which means three non-Mom days for Dominic) and he’s still struggling a bit at dropoff. He seems to have fun once he’s there – he’s singing their “carpet” song and goodbye song at home, and has been playing with friends on the playground, doing activities and crafts; it just makes me so sad that he’s sad when I drop him off :( I know it’s totally common, but Joseph never ever cried (which actually shocked me), so this is new territory for me.
2. Isabelle has become absolutely hysterical; she’s developing a total personality and loves to run, giggle, tease… it’s so, so much fun to watch. Now her brothers are chasing HER because she thinks it’s so funny and giggles non-stop, then THEY get the giggles. Ahhhh, makes my heart melt.
3. Someone is going to start hockey soooooooon! :)
4. The anniversary of 9/11 always pulls at me, especially when the day is as sunny and blue-skied as it was all those years ago. And boy, this post showed up in my feed Wednesday night, on a day when everyone was tired and cranky and whining and not listening and bedtime could not come soon enough, and it was exactly what I needed to read. A big dose of perspective.

8. Can someone please shed some light on whyyyyyyy I am getting little pinholes on the front of some of my shirts? It’s a few of my thinner shirts, some go in the dryer, some hang dry so it’s not the dryer and I can’t figure it out. They’re all in the same spot – sort of right in the middle of the front of my shirt. Something I’m rubbing against and not realizing? It’s driving me bananas because they’re some of my favorite shirts!
9. We are still plowing through Line of Duty (it’s on Hulu) and are currently in the third season. So far, it feels like each season gets better than the one before… so good – highly recommend!

The shirt thing – I get that too!!! I want to say that maybe I’m catching it in my jacket zipper? But that doesn’t make sense at all.
My belt makes tiny holes in my t-shirts. That and my little one hanging off my clothes.
My mother in law had the same issue with gettimg tiny holes in the front of her shirts. She finally figured it was from getting splattered when she was frying bacon or other items in a skillet and wasn’t wearing an apron. Just a thought!
I’m so glad someone else is watching Line Of Duty. Such a good show! I happened to be watching it on Acorn TV on Amazon Prime. Good to know it’s on Hulu as well. So good!

I have noticed the pin holes come from my shirt rubbing on the button of my jeans. It must be just rough enough to rub a hole in the delicate fabrics. 😣

My son literally was upset when I left him at daycare for 3 years. He would be fine as soon as I left (I stuck around and watched a couple times from a window), but he just did not like the transition. I have a 9 month old daughter in daycare some days now and she’s just started to cry when I leave. It’s tough!
My youngest had separation anxiety big time with pre school drop off. It used to break my heart. Someone recommended the book The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. I used to kiss her hand and leave a lipstick kiss as I was about to leave her so she would have a little bit of me with her. She is in college now and we just found her preschool picture and there was my lipstick kiss on her hand.
OMG same with the holes. Pleas post an explanation if toh find one LOL. I thought I had moths!
Ok how sweet is this story…And what a Mom to be so enduring in love for your kids. May every Mom learn by your sweet example in patience and love.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one getting these mysterious “pin holes” in my shirts. I read lots of the comments and suggestions regarding them. I have no idea where they come from either. I’ve exhausted all possibilities!
I hang about 90% of my shirts to dry and have found them on these as well as shirts dried in the dryer.
I don’t have a dishwasher so I do wash dishes but my counter isn’t rough and the pin holes aren’t always lined up to where the counter hits my shirt.
I honestly think it my be the fabric and maybe even the laundry products that cause it. It’s almost like threads in the fabric must break so there are tiny slits in the fabric. It’s been beyond frustrating for me, especially when I have to throw out a shirt I love! I’ve had it happen to all styles, quality and price of knit shirts, not just tee, thinner fabric, cheap shirts.
I only found pin holes in shirts bought at an outlet from a specific store. I started paying attention and found they were there when I bought them and returned them asap. One I didn’t find until after I washed it the first time (before wearing) and still returned it. I don’t have that problem when I buy from that store directly, just the outlet, so that’s what I do.
Separation anxiety, as one person wrote, my son thought I was doing fun stuff without him (fishing or watching star wars!). I do fun things because of him. On my own, it’s pretty boring, lol. Anyway, I recommend the book I Love You All Day Long.
My boys are grown now, but my older son had no problem with preschool dropoff but my younger son cried every dropoff for 2 years! We ended up making a button pin with a family picture that he could take with him, sometimes pinned to his shirt or bag and sometimes just in his bag. When he felt sad or missed us, he could look at the picture. I also tried to leave quickly so he wouldn’t have a chance to get too upset-he was usually ok once he got into class. Surprisingly, he had no problem once he started kindergarten other than he couldn’t handle the bus (cried the whole time-so sad seeing him crying as the bus drove off) so I took him instead (we rode our bikes when the weather was nice, which he loved).

So sweet these beautiful babies all 3 of the. I so enjoy hearing about their different personalities. And you amaze me all the time…you raise these children with so much love, care for, love and make your husband wonderful foods, clean, blog…yet you take the time to love your dogs so much. That picture of you sitting so sweetly with both dogs brought a tear to my eye…one of them is so relaxed w u they are asleep😊 now that is love!
Pin holes in the shirt – does your tummy rub up against tile with a rough edge.? That’s where all of my shirt holes came from. I now have a smooth quartz counter and problem solved!

Hi Michelle! The kids are so freakin adorable!! Thank you for sharing all the pics! My shirts do this too and I realized it’s when I wear a belt and then the seatbelt rubs against that, causing holes in the shirt. Could be what’s happening to you too! Are you a leaner? I like a higher waistband and I found that right at the top of my waist, about the spot where my kitchen counters hit, a number of my assorted tops were wearing out or were stained there. Now I wear a heavy apron whenever I’m doing things around the house. Now my tops are all fine. No more worn spots.
I have pinholes too and I’ve narrowed it down to my washing machine. I got a new one about when it started. I now put my delicate tops in a laundry bag to wash them and have had no more hole!

The only explanation I have for the small holes that I seem to get, too, is the seatbelt. Do you think that is possible?
I read others comments about the pinholes. What I’ve come to think it is, is when I’m wearing a jacket or sweatshirt with a zipper in the car. The seatbelt tightens just in the front where it occurs and the holes are made by the zipper. I have been consciously pulling the zipper and shirt free from the seatbelt when I get in and it seems to have stopped ruining my favorite shirts.

The pin holes could also be caused by your seatbelt shoulder harness or lap part that is frayed.
I have those annoying pinholes in my tee shirts, too. I was told they’re caused by clothes moths, so I bought some moth traps on Amazon. I’ve checked the traps, but I don’t see any moths in them.
Do you wear belts? I started getting holes in my shirt from the belt buckle and leaning against the counter!
When it came to adjusting to school, each one of my children were different. My oldest never cried, my middle cried for the first couple weeks, my youngest was very happy to go as long as it was just a half day. Your handsome little Dominic will adjust in time. I’m still trying to get in another peach dessert before I move on to pumpkin and apples! I am looking forward to everything pumpkin soon. Yes to the pinholes! Mine started after I had children too! I kind of assumed it was the button or zipper of my jeans rubbing against my shirt differently? Although sometimes the holes seemed high for that – my only other guess is things on kids clothes/shoes as they are constantly all over me/being held/carried?
Shirt pin holes! I’ve noticed them on my shirts in the last two or so years. I don’t have granite counter and I’m usually washing dishes in my pjs – which don’t have the pinholes. And I bought two new shirts this year that got the pinholes within three wears – so frustrating! My husband says it’s from the shirt rubbing against the waistband of my pants. Maybe. But I don’t really lean against stuff at my desk job… I’m relieved to hear I’m not the only person experiencing this phenomenon! The pinholes happened first with my thinner shirts but have happened on thicker materials too. And the fabric type hasn’t mattered either.
mystery pinholes on shirts solved! after many years of tiny holes appearing on my tshirts i had an epiphany one day. the edge of my kitchen counter hits right at the spot where the button of my jeans is. i press up against the counter while cooking which causes the tshirt to rub on the button of my jeans- and that is the area where the holes appear. so i now i either tuck in the front of a good shirt while in the kitchen or wear an old shirt that is already holey. take a look at where your counter meets your shirt. i am assuming you wear jeans.
Sweet, sweet children! I can’t believe I am not the only one getting these pin holes in my tee shirts!! Hope someone has an answer. Sometimes it only takes wearing a shirt several times before they appear.
#8….By “middle” of the shirt I pictured the area right on the top of the belly and under the braline. If you wear bras with underwires are they maybe starting to poke through their channels? Sometimes as the bra wears out, the wires are able to poke out enough to cause damage to the shirt you’re wearing. Even plastic underwires can crack enough that the plastic can can jut out..
I also have had problems with pinholes in thinner tee shirt fabric. . It not only happened at home but also occurred while on vacation away from the kitchen. I think it is the metal button on my jeans because it doesn’t happen when I wear legging (no zipper). Glad to hear others are experiencing this issue because I thought I was the only one. I have several nice tee shirts that I have had to throw away after wearing only once.
Looks like a lot of people have commented on the pinholes. I was thinking maybe your bra(s) has some underwire or a rough edge poking/rubbing that you don’t realize? I have also had that problem with cheaper, thinner shirts and realized it was the cheap material getting caught on the little holes in the dryer. Unavoidable unless I want to hang dry everything.
Dominic will get better with preschool. When I transitioned our son from a home sitter to daycare, he would drag a chair to the corner and sit there for 30 minutes or so and just watch everyone with tears in his eyes. It BROKE MY MAMA HEART but the teacher said he was just adjusting/figuring out how things were done there and she let it be. About a month went by and he finally stopped doing it. Their little hearts and minds need time to adjust to change just like ours. Hang in there.
I had the same issue with my kiddo and preschool when he was 4 (in the 3s class)…oddly enough he was fine in the beginning of the year, but developed a separation anxiety around March. After a LOT of discussion with his teachers and him, I figured out it was mostly FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). He wanted to be with ME, doing fun things, even though he loved school. So I started telling him all of the BORING, UNFUN things I had to do at home…like laundry, making beds, cleaning up after the dogs, cleaning bathrooms…and once he knew what I was doing all day, he was fine. Even now, at 7 years old, he asks me every morning, “So what are YOU doing today?”
As for the pinholes in shirts, I had the same problem even before granite countertops…so I ran my hand all along the inside of my washing machine tub and sure enough, I found a tiny metal piece near one of the drain holes, that was sticking out. We sanded it down and I put waterproof tape over it (just to be sure) and I haven’t had another issue.
Is Joseph participating in the First Goal program? We did that to introduce our son to hockey and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has kids interested in playing hockey. Also welcome to the insane early hockey hours! I think Joseph will have a great time!
As for the shirt question, I have had the same issue and for me it is caused by leaning against the counters when I wash dishes.
HI Christine, It’s called Learn to Play, which is probably something similar! It introduces kids to hockey and they get free equipment, so they can get a taste for it and decide if they want to actually play on a team.
We get the pinholes in our shirts from our counter tops, like others have said. Specifically when we wash dishes. (Lots of rubbing and leaning, I suppose.) We just keep a sturdy apron in the kitchen to wear when we’re washing and that solved the problem. A friend was having the same pinhole problem and discovered it was being caused by the zipper of a new pair of jeans.

Hang in there with Dominic, he might just take a little longer to adjust being away from home and is maybe a little shier. He will get there at his own pace, just keep encouraging him. Isabelle seems very confident in herself and very determined, good for her! And Joseph starting hockey…wow he’s already old enough!
In regards to pinholes, it could be materials used today are just being made more cheaply and not in North America. My sister is a diehard Ralph Lauren fan, she’s been buying something or other (on sale!) for a good 30 years, and still has 1-2 pieces she’s hoarding close to her heart. The last couple of items she’s bought, the piece of clothing seems to RIP or have holes within 1 year of buying the item. The item is NOT made in the USA anymore, and the materials are not the same. This is my theory…cheaper materials, cheap labor, garment still expensive, and not made in North America. Have a great weekend!
OMG the pinholes in the shirts!!! I’ve been getting them for a few years, and yes, always in that same spot!! Sooooooo frustrating and I can’t figure out how or why. I used to think maybe it was from my cats when I picked them up, but it’s not. I know stuff is thin and not made like it used to be, but still – I’ve had it happen on shirts I’ve only worn a couple of times. GRRRR
ALL of my tshirts get holes at the bottom, i believe its from rubbing against the kitchen counter. it only happens to the shirts i wear when in the kitchen. i suppose i should wear a pinny and save my clothes
Check if the pinholes line up with your countertops. I found that my granite counter was causing them on my shirts!
I always get those pinholes too. I’ve thought that perhaps they come from the zippers on my pants.

I thought it was my seatbelt as well, but I make sure to pull my shirt over the top and I still get them. I want to blame it on the shopping carts in the store. And it always seems to be my favorite tops.
Regarding the holes in your shirts – I may have the answer. Do you have granite counters in your kitchen? I was experiencing the same problem and discovered it was from standing near the edges of our granite counters – it was cutting small holes in my T-shirts. Wearing an apron has really helped!
The pinhole mystery! I had the same exact issue for years and couldn’t figure it out. I finally realized that the granite counter top I had had developed a rough spot right by the kitchen sink. When I would do dishes my shirt would rub against it and make little holes which would get bigger every time I washed it. We put some clear tape over the spot just to see if that was it, and low and behold, no more spots! Now we need to have the granite edge repaired. Hope that helps!
I have been trying very hard to avoid jumping into “pumpkin time” this early so instead I have tried to focus on apple recipies I feel the urge to bake. I think apple sider baked donuts will be on the menu sometime this weekend along with your apple cinnamon muffins…so yummy.
I did see a recipe post last week on Bloglivin for a pumpkin crisp. I emailed my neighbor…I often share my baked goods with my next door neighbors…and asked if she thought the crisp would be considered breakfast food. Her response was…100% YES!
Stay the course with Dominic…as long as he seems to be loving school once he settles in, he will be just fine. Sometimes growing up can be so hard!

I get the same pinholes in my shirts. I think it comes from thinner fabric & rubbing against my jeans – the button, etc. I’m anxious to read other people’s take.
I have this same problem – pin holes in my shirt. I’m in the kitchen all the time and I think it is from my shirt being caught between the button on my jeans and the granite counter. It drives me crazy! I think also that shirts are made with thinner, more delicate fabric than they used to be, so it happens more easily.
Dominic will get better at preschool drop-off. =). It’s great that he’s enjoying himself while he’s there. Hang in there!

So I had the same frustration with the pin holes in the front of my shirts and it’s from the waist band on your pants. That pointy part above the zipper rubs on the shirt all day.
I get those same pin holes, so I hope if you find out you will post it. My hubby has a few on the BACK of his shirts….so I don’t think it’s rubbing :~(.
Kitchen counters. I ruined so many shirts before I figured out the problem. Now I wear an apron and no issues.
I also get those pin holes in the exact same spot as you! I thought maybe silver fish somehow, but who knows. It’s so annoying!
I also think the pinholes are from the button on jeans rubbing against the shirt and pretty much anything (kitchen counter, a purse slung diagonal across, kids on your lap). I notice that certain pairs do it more than others and I too have lost 10-15 shirts so far, some my very favorites (and it has only started happening in the last two years, in which time nothing else has changed like time in the kitchen, time with kids, etc. ). I wish the fabrics would be more durable and the new buttons not be so abrasive.

Is there a seam in your countertop at the kitchen sink? That happened to my neighbor and hers were getting stuck in the granite when at the sink.
Dominic is looking more grown up. Less baby faced. Joseph is getting more handsome. And that little girl-she she is growing by leaps and bounds.
My tiny pinholes are caused by my parrots, I guess it’s one of those mysteries of the Universe.
Pin holes – my husband gets them on his work t-shirts. It’s where he leans against a workbench and his belt buckle presses against bench and his t-shirt rubs between the two.

Regarding your tiny pin holes I had the same thing happen to me and it took me over a year to figure it out and many a ruined shirt. It was my ironing board, there was a piece of metal on the underside! Check yours out.
I have gotten those same annoying pinholes for years… I used to think they were caused by rubbing against the button waistband of my pants…. then after I stopped working I switched my wardrobe to athleisure, and I still get them! Grrr!
