Friday Things #469
Happy Friday, friends! Hooray for above-average temperatures this week that allowed us some great outside time after school!
1. Last week, Dominic had his third round of the immunotherapy/low-dose chemo combo that he began right after Christmas. We could do this round in Pittsburgh, and it was so nice to be close to home and not have to travel! The week went fairly well; no huge issues but a lot of nausea and naps. He bounced back in a few days and started back to school on Tuesday; he had blood work yesterday, and his counts all looked good.
2. Joseph has discovered seltzer water and LOVES it!
3. Isabelle got a big girl bed and just adores it. She looks so sweet sleeping in there!
4. I finished Every Summer After and just absolutely loved it; one of my recent favorites and made me want to be 15 again, which is pretty hard to do 😂. Five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Then I polished off Lessons in Chemistry in just one week! It was an easy read and I enjoyed it. I’d give that one four stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️; it was good, but wasn’t as emotionally invested in the characters.
I just started The Great Alone yesterday; stay tuned!
5. THIS is my life (also include texts):
6. Joseph has been asking me to make banana pudding; grabbing some bananas this morning to surprise him after school!
7. Inspired by so many of these ideas >> 21 Minimalist Experiments to Try in Your Home
8. Racing season is back and everyone in my house is thrilled that there are both Formula One and IndyCar races this weekend 🏎️
9. What are you watching right now? We could use some new recommendations!
10. TGIF! These two got all of the shots they were due for this week… Have a fabulous weekend ❤️
I also just finished Every Summer After last week and loved it. I’ll be watching for other books of hers!
Just saw Dominic on the Pens’ Instagram pages getting signed to a contract for a day and shooting pucks on the ice. WOW! What a great day! (Pens fan and fellow western Pennsylvanian). Sending prayers that he continues to do well.
P.S. Also recommend “All Creatures Great and Small” on PBS. Some mature themes, but it’s mostly about cows, dogs, kitties, sheep and caring for them!
So glad you are able to be home for treatments! Do you go to Children’s Hospital? Back in the 1980’s (ancient history, I know), I was Laboratory Manager at the old CHP. It was wonderful to see all the research and spectacular treatments being developed and practiced, even while preserving the care and comfort to the kids.
Saying a few prayers for your family and wishing you luck!
P.S. I now live in WI, but used to live in Dormont. Miss Pittsburgh!
Hello, I always look forward to your emails and enjoy them very much. I continue to send love and prayers your way for you all especially Dominic. Love and light, Gilli xoxo
So glad to see your beautiful family enjoying the sunshine. Meanwhile, here in Southern CA, we had snow falling twice within one week which has never happened in my lifetime!
Television show I can recommend is PBS “Sanditon,” season 3 starts on Sunday, Narch 19. The show is simply wonderful.
Loved The Great Alone…some of the images still haunt me.
Such good news about Dominic! Glad he’s doing well! My son and my husband follow F1; in fact, my son dreams of being an F1 driver, which, of course, scares me! It’s been a few years since I read The Great Alone but I know I really liked it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)
The kids are really enjoying their outdoor activities! I just finished “Lessons in Chemistry” in a day and a half. Of course being retired has it’s benefits, being able to read without little voices nearby! “The Great Alone” was a good read. Haven’t read the other book yet.
On another note, it’s great to hear about Dominic’s progress, and that you can get his treatment locally! Best wishes as the seasons change. Our thoughts and prayers continue for you and your family.
I also enjoy the recipes that you share with us.
I am so happy we are finally into March with consistant warm weather just over the horizon…hopefully.
I am happy to hear that Dominic made it through his treatment with minimum distress and that he continues to positively improve. I continue to ask St. Rita for her intervention and support.
I totlaay endorse the recommendations above for both “Will Trent” and “Alaska Daily” . The lead characters in both are multilayered and have compeling back stories. Hillary Swark is such a wonderful actress. In addition, the umbrella story her character is chasing is a real life important one.
Those two fur buddies have to be so much fun to hang with and snuggle too. They are so handsome.
Putting a plug in for a regular network TV show. Will Trent. We have been enjoying this one (and my husband and I rarely agree on shows). The characters are interesting. Looking forward to seeing this one develop!
Currently watching Shrinking on AppleTV. Recently finished From Scratch on Netflix. Just make sure you have tissues nearby for the last 2 episodes.
My husband requested banana pudding a few weeks ago. I made the Paula Deen recipes with Chessman cookies. Definitely going to try your version next.
We are watching The Alaska Daily w Hillary Swank. On hulu. So good!
Your family is beautiful and in our prayers.
Thanks for all the great ideas and recipes. Making your guiness cupcakes for St Pattys. Yum!!
A book you might really like: Mary Jane by Jessica Anya Blau. A coming of age story about a girl who becomes an official babysitter for a recovering rock star and the therapist family he and his wife are living with over the summer. An even better listen. And I think soon to be movie streaming somewhere.

I breezed through “Someone else’s Shoes” by JoJo Moyes you might like it too.
Good news on Dominic!
Spring is coming…
Smiles, Sue
Continued blessings for your lovely family, and speedy healing for Domenic as well. Take care. Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers. 🫶💗🌈🙏🇨🇦
So glad things went well for Dominic. Continuing to pray for your family. Thanks for your update & glad it’s been a great weeek!
Josephin shorts in March – love it! Shrinking on Apple TV is good – an easy, lighthearted (but not) half hour show that drops a new episode every Friday. Harrison Ford and Jason Segel are in it. The characters really start to mesh together after the second episode. The one I now look forward to every week. Continued prayers for Dominic.
Vested in you and your family as though you were one of my daughters! Look forward to your updates and appreciate you taking time to share. We primarily watch BBC tv (BritBox and Acorn) so suggestions run along veins: Vera, Shetland, The Chelsea Detective, Call the Midwife.
