Friday Things #497
1. Last Saturday was a pretty gloomy, rainy day here, and in the morning, Joseph asked if they could do a “draw along”. They’ve done a few of these in school, where they watch a step-by-step video of how to draw something and do it at the same time. I set it up for them, and all three of them did SO MANY drawings, and they looked amazing, they were so proud!
The YouTube channel Art for Kids Hub has probably thousands of videos of everything from animals to sports, popular characters, and more. They asked me to draw with them a few times and it was so much fun.
2. I also can’t remember the last time all three of them came to the grocery store with me, I loved it. A couple of weeks ago, I ran into the store while they were at school and I saw one of those race car-themed shopping carts in the parking lot, and smiled. Getting one of those carts when the boys were toddlers would absolutely MAKE THEIR DAY… turning those little steering wheels all through the store. Now everyone is in school all day, and boy, the years just fly by.
3. What do you pass out for Halloween? I’ve always done just chocolate, but realized last year that my kids were equally excited about some of the other things they got, too. So this year I’m switching it up and doing a bunch of assorted chocolate bars, but also adding in fruit snacks, and snack bags of chips!
4. Thank you for all of the recommendations re the stainless steel coffee thermos last week… I am adding this ceramic travel mug to my list!
5. I love this mindset shift >> “I Can’t” Leads to Despondency, “How Can I” Leads to Possibilities
6. The kids asked for gingerbread cookies a few days ago and I love it! I already bought the Ghiradelli peppermint bark squares and peppermint mocha coffee creamer 😄
7. What do you eat for breakfast? I’m not a big breakfast eater and am usually not hungry until after the kids are out the door, but I struggle with grabbing something at that point. Sometimes I’ll eat a protein bar, but am looking for other quick, light mid-morning options.
8. Beautifully written:
Yoga teacher and spiritual leader Sadhguru on the miracles of daily life:
“Every moment there are a million miracles happening around you:
a flower blossoming, a bird tweeting,
a bee humming, a raindrop falling,
a snowflake wafting along
the clear evening air.
There is magic everywhere.
If you learn how to live it,
life is nothing short of a daily miracle.”
9. What have you been watching lately? We haven’t started anything new and I’ve been putting on old episodes of The Office and Seinfeld the last few nights; like seeing old friends!
10. TGIF! I love seeing the pups all tucked in and cozy at night 💙
I made the Pumpkin bread with chocolate chips 4 times. It was delicious! Gave a loaf to my pastor and his wife.
7. I make this in a loaf pan, extra everything bagel seasoning in the dough, just messy on top. Refrigerate for a couple of weeks (if it lasts that long). Slice off a piece for toast with cream cheese.

9. We’re streaming Blue Bloods, didn’t watch regularly on broadcast tv… loving it. Also recommend “This Farming Life” on BritBox – great for all ages.
I love the Miracles of Daily Life you shared. Beautiful.
I’ve been watching The Gilded Age and they’re about to start Season 2. It’s campy but I still liked it and all of its opulence! Also, Everybody Loves Raymond as an oldie. Still makes me smile. If you need some simplicity, watch Andy Griffith from the beginning! Always good for a laugh!
If you want to try a different drawing medium, I recommend Nana at You Are an Artist/Chalk Pastels. I can’t remember which is the YouTube channel. Has free videos as well as asubscriber- only section. There are usually free seasonal lessons too. We used lots of her materials when our son was younger.
Quick breakfast ideas: chia seed Mason jars!
Favorite recent nice: Woman in Gold
Right now we are watching Everwood on Freevee. An old series I never watched when it first ran and we are really enjoying it to escape the horrible events in world. We were late to watching Ted Lasso on Apple TV, but it is the best tv series we have ever watched. It is funny, sweet, and so endearing. Worth the price of subscription for that show alone. We love Bosch also on freevee and the new season of Great british baking show. Finally a beautiful show you can share with your children is All Creatures Great and Small.
Doc Martin on Acorn tv. So funny!
Avocado toast with everything bagel seasoning and a touch of olive oil or feta, sundried tomatoes and some balsamic glaze.
I often have a granola bar for breakfast mid-morning. Or toast with pb. Egg bites are a great idea but I’ve yet to try them.
I’m looking for new things to watch on TV as well. I love AcornTV but I’ve pretty much watched everything on there. Not finding much on Prime right now or Crave. Might have to try Netflix again.
Hi Michelle, I like making egg bites in cupcake tins and refrigerating them. Thirty seconds in the microwave and you can grab and go! Also great for kids because you can customize the ingredients. So convenient! I also love the Trader Joe’s frozen steel cut oatmeal (comes two discs in a box). 3 minutes in the microwave and add nuts/fruit to it— it is also not overly sweet.
I love overnight oats,, the flavor combinations and toppings are endless ! My fav is topping with banana blueberries granola and peanut butter
We’ve been watching Kim Convenience on Netflix. So funny!
We’ve been watching Pespectives —fake or fortune? On YouTube—British show abot artists such as Rembrant, Monet, etc. People contact them about a painting they have and want to know whether it is a fake or really by the famous artist. Interesting detective work and history lesson too!
Reading this is like connecting with a dear friend, Thank you.
Hi Michelle,
I just started watching Lessons in Chemistry on Apple + TV. It is very well done. We read the book in our neighborhood book club.
I love a small dish of cottage cheese for breakfast. You can top it with just about anything sweet or savory. Raspberry jam is my favorite!
