Friday Things #535

1. The kids have been loving summer, and I’m always a little sad to turn the calendar to August because I know school is right around the corner. Enjoying these days with them!
2. But eek, this has been the hottest summer that I can remember recently. Multiple stretches of 90ish days, high humidity, and boy, I am ready for some cooler days.
3. I finally finished reading American Dirt and it was not one of my favorite books. It took me so, so long to get through it; I really don’t like quitting books because I’m afraid there will be a turn and I’ll get invested, but that just never happened with this one. It wasn’t a page-turner for me; I just couldn’t get into it, and it never hooked me.
4. Next book up for me is Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover, which a friend loaned me. I’m only a couple of chapters in, but I’m already hooked!
5. A great read >> The Power of Saying “No” to Embrace What Matters
6. The peaches we’ve been getting recently have been out-of-this-world fantastic! I don’t remember them being this good last year, and we’ve all been enjoying them so much.
7. If you want to turn some peaches into dessert, these are my three favorite recipes: peach cobbler, blueberry-peach coffee cake, and peach crumb bars.

8. We have Olympic fever over here! The kids have been so excited to watch every day, loving swimming, diving, gymnastics, and other lesser-known events like dressage, archery, mountain biking, etc.
9. We’ve been watching episodes of different shows off and on… Pennyworth, Blue Lights, and Mayor of Kingstown. What have you watched recently?
10. TGIF! When that air conditioner blows your ear just right 😄

If I’m not enjoying a book, I’ll skip to the back half a read a little and if that catches my interest, then I’ll read the book. Otherwise, it doesn’t get finished 😂
I just finished All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. Such an amazing book. It’s a long one but so good!!!
I’m currently watching American Rust and loving it.
Lucky you getting great peaches. In southern BC which is a producer of stone fruit in Canada, we’re having to import from the US this year. A cold snap in winter has affected all stone fruit here as well as the grape crop which will affect production of wine. There are over 80 wineries within a 15-20 minute drive and more further afield. It’s sad. I did manage to get some locally grown cherries though and they were delish.
Hot, yes. (I’m in northern Utah.) And OMG the wasps/yellow jackets this summer. Enough already!
Have you read “Nora Goes Off Script” by Annabel Monaghan? As I started it this week I realized that I’d already read it. But being old, I couldn’t remember the plot, so I read it again. It’s really good!
It’s been really hot in KC too. Whew! Have a great weekend.
I’ve been watching Hudson and Rex and really enjoying it.
We are about to go into another heat advisory on Saturday & they are predicting record breaking temperatures again and some schools began the school week! I really feel for the kids and teachers having to go back in this heat.
Michelle, I follow Everday Parisian blog & Rebecca is a fan of Merit cosmetics you should take a look at her Sunday posts it’s a fun blog & I get my travel fix from her adventures. Her pup Henri is like our pups – perfect.
Enjoy your summer with your beautiful family. PS. Show recommendation the Diplomat Netflix & Mallorca Files Freeve.
Not sure if you are a fan of listening to books, but just finished Tom Hanks performing The Dutch House and I can’t tell you how much I loved it! It’s more of a quiet book, but I was so drawn into it.
Your children are so cute. Their pictures make me smile
I never not-finish a book, but I could not handle American Dirt. I think I quit after like 30 pages. I just couldn’t take the violence and some reviews said it got worse, so I called it. Life’s too short to read something you don’t enjoy, I’ve recently realized!
I agree, this summer has been so hot, it seems like it started in early June here in Maryland, and it hasn’t let up!!! Ugh. I can’t wait until the cool crisp days of Fall arrive!
Your kids are so adorable, and it looks like they are really loving the summer too. It looks like Dominic is back to 100%! I am so happy to see that, he is tough and has been through so much. He can certainly teach us adults something.
I hope you get to soak up all the love and joy that the rest of this summer has to provide for you and your children and keep these precious memories in your heart and mind forever.
Have a great weekend!
Love the picture of sweet Duke.
