Peanut Butter Dog Treats
I usually groan every time I go to PetSmart and look at the price of the “good” dog treats. I mean, buying the “cheap” ones isn’t an option because my dog is a little king and is spoiled rotten. He should get the Snickers of doggie goodies, right? However, I thought it might be fun to try to make some homemade dog treats to see how Einstein likes them. I mean, why should my baking serve just the humans in the house? Einy should reap some benefits as well!
I was going to make some beef-flavored treats, but I thought that Einstein would enjoy peanut butter better since he DOES go crazy for some good PB. These were incredibly easy to make and even more fun since I found a dog-bone shaped cookie cutter in my big set! I ended up with almost 30 treats.

The judge’s verdict:
“Can I PLEASE eat them ALL???”

I make these every week for my dogs …they love them!! and one of my dogs has a sensitive stomach. it works out great
Why does this recipe call for a Tablespoon of baking powder. I made these and tasted them. They tasted salty to me. I’ve read baking powder and/or soda was not good for dogs. Even toxic in some cases. I’m wondering if I should throw them out. Why wouldn’t a lesser amount work?
Thanks,
Debbie
Mad these at ten years old for my sick dog Marshmellow. She loved them, and so did my other dog Moutain girl. This is also a good recipe because the ingredients are stuff you can find around the house!
I love cooking and baking I made these and my dog loved them . Alexa
I made these today and they came out perfectly – exactly as pictured. My little dachshund loved them – sharing with friends too! Can add this recipe to my holiday turkey and sweet potatoe treats!! I like making my own treats – and they are really easy! Thanks for the recipe!
This seems like a well thought out recipe, but all of you should know that wheat is one of the number one causes of allergic reaction in dogs and cats. They can’t digest wheat or corn as well as humans can. Wheat is very cheap for the manufacturer which allows them to use less real meat in their dog foods. I would personally recommend a wheat free dog treat option, or substitute wheat flour with other flours, such as; garbanzo bean flour, potato flour, rice flour, ect.

Just made these with my girls…so easy! We tried another recipe that came out horrible so I tried this one….thank you!!
Plastic pet bowls, ceramic dog bowls and pet dog water fountains from
Drinkwell, Durapet, Petco and many more canine accessory suppliers.
Please tell me how to get the gluten flour to form a “ball” to roll. It is alway a sticky gooey mess! I am using Namaste Gluten Free Blend.
Is creamy peanut butter ok?
Absolutely!
what type of peanut butter do you use? Fresh ground nAtural or a jarred version
Hi Jan, A regular jarred peanut butter (like Skippy or JIF) – natural peanut butter has too much oil for baking recipe.
I just made these for my dog, for her birthday she has a weak stomach and these biscuits work for her, thank you for the recipe, my cat stole one and loved it to.
If baking powder is toxic to dogs then can we substitute it with a spoonful of natural yoghurt and let the dough rise a little before rolling out the cookies for baking, would it work ?
Hi Nirmala, I would just omit it, no need to try to let it rise due to yogurt.
I’m so glad to come across these and I will make them, but it’s the dog that caught my eye. Is Einstein a Golden Doodle because he looks like my Schnitzel? :)
Hi Cindy, Einstein is a full-bred Golden Retriever :)
Can you use whole wheat pastry flour instead?
Hi Ellen, I think that would be fine; it might result in a finer texture.
can you use anything else as a substitute for peanut butter?
Hi Crystal, Any other type of nut butter that is okay for your dog should work fine.
I’ve been looking for some good recipes for dog treats. Thanks for sharing. Since we don’t feed our dogs wheat products, I’m going to figure out how to make them Gluten free…if at all possible.
I am going to make these for my dog Lady,She is absolutely greedy about Treats.
Love the picture of Einstien,Lady will probably be like that for them to. Thanks for posting. :-)
We don’t have a dog. I’m making these for my family. I may even make some with cocoa powder added. LOL
Wherever would you obtain everything information about
dog treats ? I’m producing a good dissertation upon that will i am having difficulty discovering stuff on-line about it.
If you could help me personally about this one i’d be much required
Regards Belinda
My iggy just loved his treat. Thank you for such an easy for me and tasty treat for him!
I just used your recipe for the first time and my Fur Kids love them!!! I doubled the recipe and managed to get 6 dozen cookies, now mind you I made small round cookies. This saves me a ton of money with 3 dogs and I love that I know exactly whats in them. I will never buy cookies again for my Fur Kids, thanks for sharing this great recipe!
When making these gluten free I add 1/2 tsp of xanathum gum to each cup of rice flour to help the treats keep their depths. Our lab Gus just loves these treats.
My furbaby has a wheat allergy. Can I substitute brown rice flour and if so do I use same measurements?
Hi Kim, Yes and yes!
Its not my first time to visit this website, i am visiting this
web site dailly and take pleasant facts from here
daily.
look cute but rule of thumb for dogs: No Corn, No Wheat, No Soy and no baking powder or baking soda. You should be able to use a gluten free flour and I ‘m pretty sure you can 86 the agent to make them rise. Just no need.
I made these tonight for our babysitters dog, I am sure he will love!
Made a bunch of these to give to my family members dogs for Christmas and as I started making them my lab Hunter rain to the kitchen and started sniffing up a storm. He never comes in the kitchen because he knows hes not allowed, but slowly kept itching his way in closer and closer :-). I let him taste test the first batch and needless to say they are a HUGE hit.
Thanks so much for this recipe! Our dog just loves them! I made some for all the dogs in the family, and am planning on giving them as Christmas presents. Thanks again!
I made these for my dog today and she ended up getting up on the counter and eating half of them without me noticing! They were supposed to be her Christmas present.
