St. Patrick’s Day Recipes

st-patricks-day

Ahh, St. Patrick’s Day. The day to revel in all things Irish and green: corned beef and cabbage, corned beef hash, Irish soda bread, green beer, Irish Car Bomb shots, Irish stew, and anything and everything that can be colored green with food coloring… The list is long and there are loads of options out there if you want to whip up some traditional Irish fare. To help you narrow down the list a bit, below you’ll find a few ideas for bread and sweets to include in your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Oldies But Goodies {#1}

Oldies but Goodies

You know how when you have a fabulous pair of jeans you want to wear them all the time, wear them everywhere, never take them off? But then eventually you get a new pair of equally fabulous jeans, and little by little, the old pair find their way further and further into the deep recesses of your closet? Sometimes you even forget you still have those amazing jeans. You still love them, of course, but it’s just now you have something newer. The same phenomenon often happens with recipes. The Dark Chocolate Chip Scones that you still make all the time and are your mom’s favorite can get swallowed up in the deep recesses of the archives closet. After receiving some comments from readers about enjoying when I link back to old recipes that they may not have found otherwise, I decided to start a monthly feature here on Brown Eyed Baker, aptly named Oldies but Goodies.

At the end of each month I will highlight recipes from the archives that I have actually made during that month. It goes without saying that I do a lot more cooking and baking during the course of a month than shows up on this site, and many times I make favorite recipes. This is a way to share some of the things I’ve been up to in the kitchen, and for you to discover new recipes from the archives that you may not have otherwise stumbled upon. I hope you enjoy!

Let’s get to the February recipes! (Hint: There’s an abundance of chocolate and peanut butter!)

10 Perfect Valentine’s Day Desserts

conversation-hearts

It seems that most people fall into one of three categories when it comes to Valentine’s Day:

Group #1: They enjoy the holiday and celebrate. Usually gifts and dinners at nice restaurants are involved.

Group #2: They think Valentine’s Day is nice, but over the top. They still recognize the day with cards, maybe a small gift, and prepare a nice dinner in.

Group #3: This last group completely hates the holiday, brands it a “Hallmark holiday” and wants nothing to do with acknowledging it.

Where do you fall on this spectrum?

Well, for any of you that fall somewhere in the #1 or #2 range, I have prepared for you a list of the most Valentine-worthy desserts that have graced this site over the last three years. Rich and decadent, just like the love you’re celebrating, these dishes are the perfect way to cap off a wonderful meal together.

13 Sensational Super Bowl Party Recipes

logo_2010-Super-Bowl_bigger

The big game is this weekend! Who will you be rooting for? As much as I love football, I’m pretty apathetic about who wins the Super Bowl this year. I don’t have a great deal of like or dislike for either the Colts or the Saints, so I don’t find myself rooting for anyone in particular. Now, what I can get excited about is food! Any big game is a great opportunity to gather with friends and enjoy all of the dip and snack food that your tummy can handle. I have put together the 13 most popular recipes on Brown Eyed Baker that are perfect for such an occasion.

Super Super Bowl Suggestions

superbowl.jpg

It’s that time of year again – the game people wait all year for. Maybe you just watch for the commercials, or maybe you just watch for the half-time show, or maybe you actually watch the game! Regardless, a good many people will be sitting in front of the TV this Sunday cheering on someone. Now, far be it from me to rain on a “perfect” parade, but as a native Pittsburgher, I find it pretty darn near impossible to root for the Patriots. So many AFC Championship Games (and subsequent trips to the Super Bowl) squashed for the Steelers at the hands of the Patriots. So, without a doubt, I will be cheering on Lil’ Manning and the Giants on Sunday.

I know that many of you will be hootin’ and hollerin’ with a house full of people! Even though I’m not having a party, I do have some favorite party and munchies-type food that I’ll throw out there in case anyone is having trouble planning their menu for the big game.
