Friday Things
1. I’m back from Florida and MARRIED! I’ll be sharing more wedding details in a separate post, but to sum it all up, it was absolutely perfect and everything we had hoped it would be. We got married last Thursday evening right before sunset, standing barefoot in the sand.
2. The photo above was taken about 30 minutes before our ceremony began. It was storming up until that point, and started up again right as we were finishing up our photographs; we somehow managed to get a perfect window of weather!
3. Aside from actually getting married, our vacation was wonderful. A trip to the beach always feels so relaxing and rejuvenating. Toes in the sand, water lapping at your feet, the warm sun on your face. It just doesn’t get much better. I’m already anxious to go back!
4. Needless to say, it has been slow-going getting back into a routine this week. I’m still in vacation mode!
5. We aren’t wasting any time adding to our little family… today we are picking up a little brother for Einstein! A furry one, of course :) I promise to inundate you with pictures of a fluffy little Golden Retriever puppy :)
6. I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready for some of my favorite fall shows to get started! Do you watch Homeland? If so, you have to check out the Season 3 Trailer. I can’t wait!
7. I have been on a short ribs tear since having Mac & Short Ribs back in the spring. The best meal I ate while on vacation was, hands-down, braised short rib with smoked cheesy corn grits. I plan on making these slow cooker short rib tacos by Jessica as soon as possible!
8. There was just a hint of fall in the air yesterday and it made me immediately crave Friday night high school football games (even though I never go, but I could always hear them from my old house), my favorite hoodie, nachos and hot apple cider. In no particular order. What are your favorite things about fall?
9. Speaking of fall, I am counting the days until hockey starts back up again. I am more than ready to start planning my schedule around Penguins games again :) It’s almost here!
10. TGIF! Have a relaxing weekend!
Did I miss the wedding post or has it not been posted yet? Excited to see it!!
Congratulations!
I’m sure that rainbow means lots of good things are ahead for you!
Congratulations! I hope you two have a long, loving marriage!
I am new to your blog but just love it! I discovered it while trying to find Ina Garten’s parmesan thyme crackers. BTW, I don’t have a paddle attachment on my blender, does that make a difference in the outcome of the crackers? Anyway, I love reading your posts and wish you all the best in your new married life :). You have a follower in me, I need inspiration to get cooking and learn new recipes!!! Do you by chance have a recipe for french onion soup? I had never tried french onion soup until I tried the original recipe from Panera. Oh how I loved it! They changed it to a different, healthier (as they call it) version that tastes like water. So now I am on a mission to find a good and rich french onion soup recipe so I can make it at home and eat it anytime I want and all year :). I am so happy Fall is coming!!! Fall is all about comfort foods and the smells of cinnamon…yummy!!!! Can’t wait to see the recipes you post!
Hi Lucy, Here is my recipe for French Onion Soup: https://www.browneyedbaker.com/2010/01/29/french-onion-soup/. Enjoy!
Much happiness to you both!! May your conversations never end!!!
Einstein is such a cutie…love the last picture of him….welcome puppy!!!!
Awwww, congrats on getting married! So happy for you. And what perfect weather.
And that Homeland trailer? I have chills. I have NO IDEA what is happening and why Brody is living in a hole but man oh man, I am excited for season 3.
Congratulations on your marriage AND your new family member! Hurrah!
I’m so excited for Homeland! Takes the sting out of the fact that Dexter will be ending soon…even though it’s probably time. *sob* Hard to believe that the beginning of Homeland means the end of September is almost here, though!
Congrats on your wedding and your new golden puppy! I hope Einstein loves the new addition! We have two goldens and have had three at one time, best dogs ever!
Congratulations on the wedding and new Golden baby! The rainbow pic is utterly amazing!
So happy for you two! Congrats!! I cannot wait to hear more!
Best wishes, Michelle! Can’t wait to see Einstein’s new, sweet companion. And, I am with you…bring on the hockey!
Congrat’s I was married in Florida as well at Sanibel Island. I made your snickers cake and while labor intensive, It turned out perfectly and was a huge success. I will make it for my office as we gear up for a busy season. Another congrat’s on your puppy, dogs are awesome as i am looking at my english bulldog sleeping. Sorry to say I now boycott the NFL (National Felons League when they reinsated Michal Vick.
Congratulations!! What a stunning backdrop for a wedding!
And fall is my FAVORITE. The leaves, the crisp air, the scents, the fall festivals, Halloween, scarecrows, pumpkins, hoodies, hot tea/cider/cocoa… oh, I could go on and on… so ready for it.
Super congrats!!
And a hoodie, nachos and hot apple cider sounds like the most amazing Friday night ever in my opinion!
Congratulations! It only gets better! Not always but mostly. I’ve been married 54yrs this week.
CONGRATULATIONS :)

I must say I think Einstein looks sad; as if he knows his ‘being the only child’ days are numbered. Can’t wait to see the new pup myself even if your boy is a bit worried.
Congrats!!! The rainbow pic is beautiful AND a sign of good luck! Hope Einstein enjoys his little brother, lol. Love Golden puppies, they are just too cute! Enjoy your new life and can’t wait to see what culinary “yums” you have coming up!!!

Can’t wait for wedding pictures and new puppy with Einstein pics! I love hiking in the fall with all the changing leaves and baking pumpkin bread!
Very happy congrats on your nuptials and new puppy! May God richly bless your life together.
Weddings, sunsets, puppies, and hockey. What a great post to wake up to! Congratulations on all fronts. And we’ll have to bet cupcakes on the Penquins vs. Bruins games…
I jsut came to comment that I made your dog “carrot cake” for my golden’s first birthday yesterday and she LOVED it!

Yay! You are married! Congrats! I can’t wait to hear more! I am glad it was perfect!
Congratulations on your wedding! That puppy will add years to Einstein’s life – how exciting for all of you!
My favorite fall things are putting on my white socks and white tennies, jeans and a long sleeved shirts and going for a long ride in the country in my hubby’s pickup with the windows rolled down – stopping for a picnic lunch and enjoying the fall air!
Congratulations on your wedding and the new furbaby! Coming back to reality from vacation is always difficult, and even more so when it was your wedding celebration!
Congratulations on your wedding! Maybe that was your Dad sending that rainbow and nice weather to you on your wedding day :) Can’t wait to see pictures and also pics of the new puppy! My favorite things about fall are wearing my jean jacket, baking with pumpkin and the changing of the leaves.
Congratulations to you and your hubby! Wishing you both many years of happiness,
Dorothy

Congratulations! Super excited to see photos of the new puppy (and whatever recipes you have coming next)!
I first tried braised short ribs in a risotto recipe, where the braising liquid (mostly a bottle of red wine, with some stock to make it slightly less expensive) became the liquid for the risotto. To date it’s still my favorite, but it takes like 3 hours to make!
A question–have you ever tackled a Cherpumple/Monster Pie-Cake? My boyfriend is requesting one for his birthday and I’m trying to figure out if going 100% homemade will be an insane effort or an achievable one.
Hi Melanie, Thank you! Oooh, I would love that braised short rib risotto recipe if you’re up for sharing! I am not familiar with Cherpumple/Monster Pie-Cake. Do you have a link for a reference?
Short rib risotto (sorry, just my own recipe, so no concise link)–
Sear bone-in chuck short ribs (about 4) on all sides in dutch oven, then throw in half an onion (roughly chopped) and deglaze with a cup of a hearty red wine. Move to a 250 degree oven and cook covered for about an hour and a half. Then heat roughly equal parts wine and beef stock (I used bouillon/water), about 6 cups total, with fresh/dried thyme and any other red meat spices. In separate pot, toast about 2 cups of rice in 1 Tbl oil over medium-low heat. Add first cup of wine-stock mixture and stir frequently. Remove meat from oven and separate from bones (cutting off the membrane thing). Add bones and remaining liquid to wine-stock mixture. Add wine-stock mixture gradually to rice as you would for risotto (waiting until you can see the bottom of the pan, then adding next scoop) until rice is al dente. Then microwave a pound of frozen spinach to thaw (or use fresh chopped spinach), and stir into risotto. Stir in a quarter cup of grated Pecorino Romano if desired (makes it creamier), or a couple tablespoons of butter. Shred remaining beef and stir through risotto.

Congratulations and best wishes! Happiness always!
Gorgeous picture and I am looking forward to the wedding and new puppy pictues too. You and Hubby are going to have such a fun weekend getting to know your new fur baby!
WOW! That picture is incredible! I am so happy for you and your growing family, furry friends and all! During fall I look forward to apple-everything!!
Congratulations on your marriage! :)
I love dogs, but while I have a Pug I’m more of a cat lover. And obviously the strays and abandoned cats around here (Lancaster, PA – a bad area in terms of how many stray/abandoned/unwanted cats and kittens there are) have figured that out, because we’ve taken in five in the past 13 months. Three were re-homed, one was put to sleep (he had FIV and got sick), and the other is still with us. Fingers crossed that no more show up on our doorstep for a while…
Anyway, sorry to hijack your post. :) Once again, congratulations!
Congratulations! Looking forward to reading/seeing about your new life events!
Congratulations! Love to see photos…and puppy photos, of course. :)
Love the photo above with the rainbow, that is good luck. Congratulation and Best Wishes on getting married.
I have a Golden that I rescued. He is the best, Out of all the dogs I have had (even raised collies for the ranchers) he has the most character and is very smart, and was easy to train. Although he is nearly 9 yrs old now he is still very playful. He travels with me all over and is my protector. Don’t have to ask him twice to get in the car, just open the door and he is ready to go.
years of joy , happiness & magical moments!!
Congratulations!! What a beautiful picture :) Can’t wait to see the new pup! I am making your macaroni & cheese casserole this weekend to bring to a family dinner. Your recipes never let me down :)
Congrats on the nuptials and the new puppy! We think Einstein will be a terrific big brother. *_* Looking forward to hearing more about all the new things in your life as well as some great new autumn recipes!
XO

So glad you enjoyed your wedding! Congratulations!
Awwww about Einsteins little “brother” :) Can’t wait to see.
Your blog and posts are so inspiring,as a novice but learning fast baker I can say that so far all your recipies have worked! Congratulations on your wedding and best wishes for the future.
The thing that I love about autumn, as we Brits call it, is the smokiness in the air especially on an October evening.
Congratulations to you and your hubby! Looking forward to seeing puppy and wedding pics :)
Congrats! on your nuptials. I’ve wanted a Golden since I was like 6 years old…do you have any advice.
Thank you!! What type of advice are you looking for? I am obviously a big fan of Golden Retrievers, so I highly recommend getting one (along with a very powerful vacuum cleaner) :)
