The Weekend Dish: 3/16/2019
Happy happy Saturday to you!
What are you doing this weekend? Are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in any way? Would love to hear what you’re planning to cook or bake, if you are! We’re having a small Sunday dinner this week so I’m making reubens – easy and everyone loves them! I also plan to work on perfecting an angel food cake recipe today; fingers crossed!
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I’ve bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

Homemade Potato and Cheese Pierogies – These homemade pierogies are made with a potato and cheese filling and dough that’s a dream to work with. Saute in butter and serve with caramelized onions!
Easy Bolognese Sauce – This easy bolognese sauce comes together in less than an hour and tastes like it’s been simmering away all day. Even your Italian grandma will love it!

I am having our family dinner at my house this week (my sister and I alternate) so I’m having a rainbow fruit plate, green colored Belgian waffles with whipped cream and berries, and an egg and sausage casserole. I’ll also have lucky charms to match our st paddy’s day theme and also because I never buy them so they’ll be a treat :-). Everyone likes when we do a big breakfast menu for dinner. Maybe I’ll try to slip a gold coin in a waffle and offer a prize to the winner. My kids and nephews would like that. Happy weekend!!
I love to make homemade angle food
My mom always made a “green dinner” for St. Paddy’s Day so my sisters and I are all bringing things. I bought green shamrock ravioli at Costco and pesto. And I bought some real Irish bangers (sausages).
If you would like, I have a really interesting recipe for an old fashioned cake, called a Daffodil Cake. It’s a swirled mix of angel food and sponge cake, flavored with citrus. It was only made at Easter in a famous bakery in Cleveland, called Hough Bakeries. I have perfected it over the years and would be happy to share.
