Friday Things #495
1. The kids discovered how to play the card game War and they are INTO IT. I forgot how much I played when I was a kid!
2. Joseph finished up his first-ever baseball season this week; he had such outstanding coaches and learned so much. It was a great experience for him; I’m glad he didn’t shy away from trying something new even though nowadays starting a new sport at eight seems “too late”, which is so disheartening.
3. We’re heading into cold and flu season and this idea of having a “sick box” where everything is contained when you get sick is so smart!
4. Did you buy anything on sale during the Prime Days this week? These were the most popular things I mentioned >> Veggie Chopper (still 25% off) / Large Silicone Dough Mat (still 50% off) / Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K (still 54% off) / Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask / OxiClean White Revive Laundry Whitener
Note: These sales were live at the time of writing this post. They can change at any point in time.
5. This is incredibly interesting >> We Were Never Supposed to See Our Own Faces This Much
6. So many of you made my chicken and dumplings recipe last weekend and it thrills me so much! It’s such a cozy meal 😍
7. If you’re starting to think about holiday gifts and know someone who loves coffee, here is a list of the 20 Best Coffee Subscriptions.
8. Everyone in our house is thrilled that hockey season started!
9. We’ve been watching The Chelsea Detective (on Acorn) and love it!
10. TGIF! Judith got a new toy for her birthday and she was so enamored with it 😄
Aww, Judith is so cute with her pink hedgehog toy! It’s always a little sad when dogs won’t play with the adorable toys you pick for them and only want one gross ball or a sad chewed up slimy rope or something. LOL You scored the jackpot picking out this cute toy for her birthday and then she loved it so much!
I’ve so enjoyed following your sweet little family through the years. Have you watched Foyle’s War? It begins just before WWII and the info on WWII and its effect on everyday people in England was quite interesting. Christopher is such a dear man who has such a wonderful and strong way about him. His driver, Sam, is a delight. My father served in WWII, so I’ve always had a fascination with every facet of that war. It just might not be a subject you’d be interested in, but give it a try.
PRAYERS SAVE LIVES… SO SATISFYING TO SEE LITTLE DOMI SMILING AND BE WITH HIS FAMILY… WHAT A STRONG LITTLE BOY… BLESS YOU MICHELLE AND YOUR FAMILY!!!!
I absolutely love that you have a dog named Judith! Is there anything better than a pet with a human name? I think not!
Love The Chelsea Detective and a lot of other stuff on AcornTV. My favourite channel!
It’s so funny how dogs have “favorite toys”. My niece’s new rescue dog has one that he loves – it’s a sure way get his attention when the kids are trying to get him to go outside or stop an unwanted behavior.
Did Joseph & Isabel plan their matching outfits? I’m trying to come up with games to play with 5 & 7 yo. greats. The 5 yo has such a short attention span. Any suggestions?
Now I’m craving hash brown casserole – no hash browns in the freezer but might try it with tots. Have a great weekend!
They did not plan their outfits, ha! Joseph has some Captain American pajamas and Isabelle has Wonder Woman, they just happened to coincide that morning :)
As for games good for 5-year-olds, Isabelle does really well with Candyland, Zingo, Go Fish, things that are quick and move along!
Hi! Yes, we played hours and hours of War. It was relaxing and social.
My son, Nick took up lacrosse in junior high (was sooo glad after that faze – it was quite violent.) He learned to box in high school at a local boxing gym. He stopped after his first sparring match, but he learned how to defend himself. I think parents put that idea out that the kids must be dedicated to a sport from the earliest. It’s not very realistic, and can thwart a kid’s exploration of self at different ages. Puts a damper on fun. The parents want their kid to be competitve, when all the kid wants is to be out there and a part of it.
The obsession with appearance may seem more intense than ever, but I suspect that it’s always been present, whether it’s beauty or current clothing, or physical bodily attributes. The constant forced viewing of the ‘perfect few’ in media is more damaging. That’s one reason I enjoy British tv so much. The actors often seem oblivious to mirrors. The directors don’t seem obsessed with good looks. Many of the characters are rather unfortunate looking! But most of the time, they appear just like everybody else, which creates quite a comfort level.
Love all your family stories and pictures. The picture of Judith today was so beautiful and so typical of large dogs (I have a grand dog named Cowboy – a Great Pyrenees) it made me laugh out loud – thank you.
