The Weekend Dish: 1/7/2017
Happy first Saturday of 2017!
How did the first week of the new year treat you? I sort of eased out of my holiday vacation slash maternity leave with a lot of time at home, and we got all of our Christmas decorations down and put away. The house always looks so bare and dark once everything is taken down. The big thing on the docket this weekend is the Steelers playoff game this Sunday – my husband is going to the game, but I’ll be hunkered down at home with a big bowl of chili staying warm! What are you up to?
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I’ve bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:
This chocolate peanut butter cup pound cake is a total dream.
I am totally making room for these crispy cheesy potato stacks on my next menu!
Easy cold brew coffee pie seems like a great way to get my caffeine fix… pie for breakfast?!
I need to make this Kentucky butter crunch cake for the Kentucky derby this year!
I’m a huge mushroom fan, so I’m thinking of keeping a batch of these sauteed garlic butter mushrooms in the refrigerator to add to meals throughout the week.
Have a delicious weekend!
Those no bake cookies look delicious!

I too love mushrooms. Â I make a really simple recipe – 2 lbs mushrooms, 1/2 cup butter and 1 packet of good seasons dry Italian dressing. Â Combine all ingredients and simmer for at lease an hour. Â If I am serving the same day I start them early then let them sit and reheat whe ready to serve. Â
Have a great week Michelle and  Go Steelers!
It’s so great to have the Weekend Dish back!  It’s my favorite Saturday reading :)  I have to say that 2017 is buzzing right along!  I am resisting taking down the tree and undoing the mantle for the very reasons you stated . . . .  If it weren’t so ridiculous, I’d seriously consider putting Christmas up by  mid-November to enjoy longer and then be ready to dismantle everything by now.  UGH!
Can it get any better for Pittsburgh sports fans than a 1:00 Steeler playoff game and a 5:00 Pens game on the same day?! Â Have you watched the Pens history documentary on Root Sports? Â I’ve watched it twice! Â The early history of the Pens is pretty cool and to see Badger Bob and how he was admired as a coach, to watch all the early great players and go through the Stanley Cup runs and wins. Â You have to watch it if you haven’t yet!
Have a good weekend! Â Here We Go Steelers! Â Here We Go! Â Let’s Go Pens!
Hi Michelle! It turned out to be a GREAT sports day! I have seen the special, it was amazing! The part about Badger Bob was so moving. Definitely one to save!
So funny….I was planning to do the same menu for my family dinner….what chili, salad and frosted brownie recipes are you using? Are you making your bread? What do you typically serve with your chili for toppings? Have a great weekend!
Hi Carolyn! My mother-in-law made the chili, but this is my all-time favorite recipes:

As for toppings, I like shredded cheddar, Fritos and sour cream.
It was just a simple tossed salad – nothing special. I didn’t make my own bread today – it was store-bought!
These are the brownies I made: https://www.browneyedbaker.com/chocolate-fudge-brownies-with-chocolate-buttercream-frosting/.
GREAT MINDS! Those were the recipes I pulled! Have a great week!
