Friday Things #429
1. Isabelle did a little three-day dance “camp” this week (just 30 minutes each day) to get a feel for it since she keeps saying she “wants to ballerine” 😍 It was so cute and she seemed to really enjoy it!
2. When we watched the end of Isabelle’s class on the second day, Joseph had the biggest, brightest smile watching her and I wish I had been able to snap a picture quickly because it absolutely melted my heart.
3. Dominic is riding his bike without training wheels! He picked it up pretty quickly and then was off… A summer milestone 😉
4. Does anyone have any experience with prescription swim goggles? Dominic has mentioned that it can be hard to see sometimes at swim class since he doesn’t have his glasses on. My husband found online that prescription goggles exist; his eye doctor doesn’t sell them and didn’t have any contact info, so I’m curious if anyone here has used or bought them?
5. Mourning the loss of my old phone number… I think I’ll always remember our phone number growing up; I still remember my grandma’s and aunt’s, too.
6. Which French fry is your favorite? I haven’t had them all, but it’s a toss-up between #1 and #6 for me!
7. It’s the middle of July and suddenly I feel like summer is almost over 😭 Just five weeks and change until school starts and omg, THAT IS TOO SOON, ugh!
8. Anyone watching The Open this weekend? It’s the tournament that got me totally into watching golf over 10 years ago. Still one of my favorite sporting events to watch!
9. Okay, last week when I mentioned Goliath, Renee commented that the second season wasn’t bad, but not as good as the first and then the third season just gets weird. THIS, 100%. The second season started out great, but then go way weird, and we just started the third, but it’s even stranger! Then we looked and saw that the people who wrote the first season did NOT write the 2nd and 3rd seasons, which has to be a big part of it. Disappointing since the first season was stellar.
10. TGIF! Best buds 💜
I think some nicer (independent) sporting goods store may have some prescription goggles in the lower prescriptions. I’m thinking Rapid Transit (in State College) carried some in the store. If not, Swim Outlet is a great resource for anything swimming.
From an adult user POV: Game changer. I had a prescription face mask for scuba diving. I ultimately learned how to dive while wearing contacts but I always preferred the face mask with the prescription. It was fussy when taking the prescription mask off though. I had to also be near my glasses. But I figured out how to make it work. Then I learned to dive with contacts. Not as visually good but much easier.
Swim goggles are worth the investment. My nephew ( now grown) had them as a kid and made a world of difference. He couldn’t see to dive down to get things off the bottom of the pool. In addition to poor vision, the reflection of the sun in the water, the pattern of the liner made it even more difficult. Without prescription goggles he would have been swimming/diving nearly blind and that made us nervous! He was thrilled to get them!
I have used prescription swim goggles for years. The prescription is close enough to make a huge difference. I can see the lane lines clearly, and most importantly, that pace clock. They will help Dominic so much.
We have used Rx goggles for swim team. Amazing game changer for my blind without glasses son. Swimoutlet.com has the best deals and selection.
Hi Michelle, On your advice I purchased Yellowstone first season when Amazon Prime had it offered for half price. My husband wasn’t thrilled about it until we decided to bite the bullet and watch the first few episodes. Needless to say, we both loved it and finished the first season last night! He has some health issues and now this show gives us something to look forward to. Thanks so much for the rave reviews! Buying Season Two today. Also love your recipes and watching your adorable & unique children grow up.
We buy prescription goggles at our local swim shop, but we live in Texas, where there are many kids who swim year around….so we have local swim shops. Swimoutlet.com sells prescription goggles.
Thank you for sharing your precious family as well as wonderful recipes!
Crazy how fast summer is slipping by! I agree, the first episode of Goliath was fabulous and then is just got weird. If you’re looking for a good show to watch, I highly recommend Killing Eve! So, so good!!
I used to swim indoor laps & I bought goggles at swim outlet.com. Corrective optical & you choose the negative needed. Hope this helps
For goggles I have not heard anything, but that is good to know. Growing up I went through quite a bit of pairs of googles.
My favorite fries are Chick-Fil-a.
Definitely watching The Open.
Hey Michelle! My daughter (9 y/o) has been wearing prescription swim goggles for the past 3 years. I didn’t know about them either until we went to a new optical store (We live on Long Island) and they mentioned them. She loves them and wears them every time she goes swimming (which is often since we have a pool). I’m hoping she comes home from sleepaway camp with them. 😬. I would do a search for optical places in your area or you could possibly order them online with a prescription.
Thank you for all of the yummy recipes and for sharing “life” with your readers 😊 I know you’re always interested in new shows and I was wondering if you have ever watched The Chosen? I had been hearing a lot about it and just thought it was going to be a “cheesy Bible movie” but Oh. My. Gosh. It is SO good and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before! Just type in The Chosen on the App Store and all the episodes are on the app for free. We just finished season 2 and I’m dyyying for the next season to come out! Definitely worth a watch!
Hi Michelle, I saw you were looking for online prescription goggles.
You can try gogglesnmore.com, they make kids customized prescription goggles.
Just have Dominic’s prescription ready.
Hope this works
Jennifer
My son used prescription swim goggles as a five-year old in the late 1980’s. They were wonderful! He later went on to wear safety eyewear for competitive football.
Prescription goggles are awesome. I use them because I hate not being able to see clearly.
McDonalds and Five Guys are my favorite fries!
Our daughter’s eyesight has been bad since she was very young and she always complained about not seeing well underwater. Through elementary and jr high she wore prescription goggles and it changed her world! Unfortunately, we lived in Italy at the time so where we got them won’t work for you …. but you’ll find them somewhere, I’m sure! Since high school she just wears her contacts and that works for her. Good luck! I’ll look for a goggle update on future Friday Things!
Yes, I was thinking the same yesterday…this summer, although prone to temperature extremes this year where I live (heat dome up to 45c), it is definitely going waaaay too fast!
See if your local Wal-Mart has the swim goggles.
That way you can try them out for fit/style.
Then you can order there, Amazon, etc.
No second thoughts….Steak ‘n Shake, but then I grew up in central Illinois where they originated. They were my first french fries back in the 50s. They also have the best steakburgers, thin and crispy on the outside. However, I do find Steak ‘n Shake outside of Illinois less than stellar, so I may be the only one here for S&S.
Isabelle has grown. Sweet pic of her and furry babies.
French fries- Mc Donald’s, no others come close.
French Fries – I’m a crinkle cut gal so I have a couple regional favorites, Runza when I’ in the Midwest and Zaxby’s here in the South. Zaxby’s has the best seasoning for sure!

These work great and not too $$$$
Michelle, I had to wear prescription goggles when I SCUBA dived years ago. You may have luck visiting a good Dive Shop. Hope this helps you. Love your blog, your recipes and watching your children grow up.
Thank you for all of your great recipes and for sharing “life” with your readers 😊 I know you are always on the lookout for new shows, so I was wondering if you have seen The Chosen? I kept hearing about it and thought it was going to be a “cheesy Bible movie” but Oh. My. Gosh. It is SO good and unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Definitely worth a watch! It’s a crowd funded show therefore totally free to everyone. Just type in The Chosen on the App Store and all the episodes are there for free. (2 seasons so far but they are making 6, I’m dyyying for the next season to come out!) I hope you give it a try and like it as much as I do!! Happy baking, watching, relaxing!
The French fry graphic made me laugh. I have an ongoing contest between French fries too. I haven’t tried all of these either, but I love Checkers! But I also think Dairy Queen deserves a spot on the list!
I have a pretty non-standard prescription so the Amazon options don’t work. This site is good for stronger ‘scripts:

The dance stuff is so adorable!! I miss those days.
Be very glad you still have 5 weeks. We have 2 left here in Georgia! The fries- My super-favorite fries are only found in Columbia, SC from a place called Rush’s. The OLD wendy’s fries used to be like that. Living in GA we have CFA aplenty. So they are probably what I’d choose. That one commenter about Popeye’s fries- yes!! Enjoy the rest of the summer, and thanks so much for what you do! Delicious recipes and fun tidbits….
I love Isabelle’s messy ballerina bun…so cute.
I am not a golf person at all but occasionally will watch some big match. I watched some of “The Match” last week. OMG…that golf course in Montana was not to be believed. Some of the drone shots were beyond breath taking. I also got a real sense of just how the terrain of the course itself is so crazy.
Have a good weekend with your sweet family.
I got prescription swim goggles years ago & they made a huge difference in how much I enjoyed swimming. In the pool it makes it easier to recognize other swimmers & see the life guards. On the beach it feels safer when I can spot my towel on the beach & recognize the other swimmers. Mine weren’t very expensive & they worked well.
Of the fries you have there I have to say #6. But if you ever taste Popeye’s…. OMG!!! The seasoning on them is out of this world!!!!!!!
I second Amazon for prescription goggles. They are not expensive, but make a huge difference.
Prescription Goggles: My husband wore them for years when he played racquetball and they made a huge difference. I’m sorry I can’t offer a resource, but you shouldn’t have any trouble finding them.
French Fries: For me it’s a toss-up between Five Guys and Steak and Shake. I love, love, love thin, crisp fries, but S&S is on the other side of town, so we almost never get over there, especially since the Pandemic arrived. Five Guys fries are nearby and consistently good and, most importantly, they taste like potatoes.
My husband got his goggles from Amazon. They are Speedo and you have to specify the diopter.
My daughter used Speedo prescription goggles. They worked great. The only disadvantage was they were not available in all the “cool colors” or with tinted/mirrored lenses, but that only matters if you’re swimming outside.
I had a prescription snorkel mask and it was wonderful. As someone who had horrific vision growing up, whatever you can do to make it better I highly recommend.
Seeing her interest in ballet made me think of a book that I always thought was a beautiful book, so I wanted to pass the name along in case you are interested – “Dance, Tanya” by Patricia Lee Gauch.
I hope you guys have a great summer.
