The Weekend Dish: 10/13/2018
Hello middle-of-the-month, it-finally-feels-like-fall October Saturday to you!
The weather FINALLY broke here and after having an 85-degree day on Wednesday, we were in winter jackets and hats on Joseph’s field trip to the pumpkin patch yesterday morning because it was barely in the mid-40’s, insane!
I’m working on a few new recipes today; what are you up to this weekend? Baking or cooking anything fun?

Oh my goodness the beef tips and gravy looks delicious! Â It made me hungry to look at it. Â
I have a recipe for an apple cake that is very similar to the one you linked, but it makes a smaller cake which is great for my small family.. Â But I’ll make the butterscotch sauce to go with it. Â I think that will happen this weekend. Â
You jogged my memory when you mentioned your trip to the grocery store with your children. My children are all grown up now but I had three children spaced in years as yours are, two boys and then a girl. I always was horrified by mothers in supermarkets getting mad at their kids.. I thought I was way above that. One day I had 10 kids due in an hour for a birthday party and found I needed to run to the store, It was REALLY HOT and our car did not have air conditioning. I was really pushing it. As I was tearing through the market with my daughter in the cart I turned the corner on one aisle to see my two boys bowling – they had stood up soda bottles and were rolling oranges at them and knocking them down! I totally lost it! They eventually grew up and all have children of their own. I still have that day indelibly etched in my brain. One of my low points for sure!!!
Ahhh . . . . just now getting to Friday Things and Weekend Dish . . . .
Don’t get discouraged from taking all 3 children to the grocery – or anywhere else you need to go on errands or otherwise.  Each trip will become “easier” and the kids will get better as they know what is expected by you regarding their behavior in being out.  If discipline is necessary (don’t be afraid of disciplining; it’s crucial in raising children), take care of it once you get back to the car or at home if  you can’t take care of it in the store by speaking to them.  They need to know what is expected before heading out.  They are capable of much more than what we sometimes realize. But they need boundaries and patient teaching and training.  they need to be taught to behave appropriately.  Be encouraged that you’re doing your “job”.  Being a mom is a noble calling.  And yes, they will definitely try your patience and zap your strength on days.  Treasure these days though; they can be very long but the years are SO very short.  I have 3 children (in their 20’s now & 2 are married) who are 4 1/2 years apart in total,  so very similar to you.  They had days just like yours do and I had days just like yours, but OH!  I’d do it all over again and add 1 or 2 more if I could. Â
I still tend to bookmark things I want to read. Â I do some podcasts but it’s usually through the email links. Â I’m so bad at going straight up podcasts. Â
I am trying a new bread recipe today and an apple skillet cake, both from KAF. Â Made a big pot of wedding soup yesterday and pumpkin bread earlier in the week. Â Enjoy your weekend. Â Pens & Steelers both this weekend!
