The Weekend Dish: 5/16/2020
A happy weekend to you!
Are you still under stay at home orders where you live? Ours was lifted yesterday, but a lot of stuff is still closed and social distancing/mask-wearing is still required, so a baby step.
I’m hoping to test a few new recipes this coming week; excited about sharing some good stuff this summer! Any recipe requests??
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I’ve bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

Challah French Toast – Challah French toast is a classic breakfast treat. It’s fluffy and perfect with maple syrup drizzled on top. Make this recipe for weekend breakfast, weeknight breakfast-for-dinner, or holiday brunch!
Cream Cheese Frosting – Cream cheese frosting is a tangy alternative to vanilla buttercream. You only need a few ingredients and about 5 minutes to make this recipe!

What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:
I would DEMOLISH this Buster Bar ice cream dessert. Fingers crossed that sometime soon peanuts will be able to be in our house again!
Totally craving Chipotle after seeing this barbacoa; need to try this at home!
Honey mustard cajun shrimp with cheddar grits sounds like total comfort food right now.
I’ll just take everything with cheese, please >> Layered jalapeno cheddar biscuits with salted honey butter
Mini no-bake cheesecakes might be my summer food anthem.
Have a delicious weekend!

still on lock down. opened phase 1, waiting 2nd phase and the rest of them that follow to open
I dont even know if we are still in lockdown in Ca. Isn’t that sad….it all feels like one big day. Haven’t felt much like cooking sadly since I’m home for what could be a long while, but still enjoy reading recipes and your blog is always wonderful. Gives me something to enjoy reading about and hopefully even making one day soon. Something to look forward to.
Hi Michelle, I also had a grandmother and great-grandmother that made banana nut bread. My grandmother’s lived in San Diego, CA, and my family would visit them at Christmas. There would be a loaf or 2 of banana nut bread. I remember one time we visited they had not made the recipe and my brother was disappointed so they made him a loaf of banana bread. I usually use their recipe but lately have used other recipes. As you said, I always love of the smell of it baking. I will make your recipe sometime. I also, want to make your Banana Foster Bread recipe. I like the idea of the rum glaze. Love your recipes and hearing about the family Take care and be safe.
Buster Bars are the Bomb! If you try only one recipe this year, it’s the one. I have had guests literally lick their plate, they are that good. A couple of notes on the recipe in the link:
(1) You do want to use Spanish peanuts because it’s easier to cut the bars, but you don’t need a full pound. I sprinkle liberally from a can until there’s a good layer of them–maybe 8 ounces at most.
(2) If you get the ice cream that comes in a square box, you can slice the entire block into slabs and eliminate having to smoosh it around. Much neater.
(3) You WILL want to eat the entire caramel fudge topping all by itself. Resist the temptation!
Buster Bars are in the category I call Dangerously Delicious. You all know what I mean… Stay safe and enjoy!
Hi Michelle, I’m a little concerned because I haven’t received this week’s Friday Things and today’s Weekend Dish in my email. I have been receiving them regularly for a few years and all of a sudden, none this week. I read this week’s posting on Bloglovin’ Daily Digest. Has anyone else emailed you that they haven’t receive these this week?
Oh no! I haven’t heard that from anyone else, but please let me know if you don’t receive them next week.
I’ve made that Buster Bar dessert before. Im here to tell you that’s where it’s at!!!
