Top 10 List: Favorite Brownie Recipes
A collection of the best brownie recipes on Brown Eyed Baker – plain, nutty, salty, frosted – favorite brownies for everyone!

[We continue to update the โTop 10โณ series of posts with brownies!]
This is quite possibly one of my favorite top 10 lists… Brownies!! They are dense, fudgy, packed full of chocolate, and infinitely customizable depending on your favorite flavors. There are peanut butter brownies, salted caramel, cheesecake, frosted, frozen… you name it, and I guarantee a brownie has been made with it.
Below is an updated list ofย my 10ย favorite brownie recipes… Enjoy!
Top 10 List: Best Brownie Recipes on BEB
1. Baked Brownie
This is “THE” Baked Brownie – the one that has been all the rage for years, hailing from the Baked cookbook, and for good reason – it bakes up perfectly dense and fudge-like with that glorious crackly top.
2. Better-Than-Box-Mix Brownies
This is my go-to recipe when I want a perfect, traditional brownie. It’s also the one I turn to as a base for creating some of those epic brownie recipes (see the buckeye brownies, below).
3. Buckeye Brownies
One of my all-time favorite brownie recipes, featuring the best flavor combo in the world – chocolate and peanut butter! I used my better-than-box-mix brownies, a buckeye-like filling, and topped it with a chocolate/peanut butter ganache. Heaven.
4. Chocolate Fudge Brownies with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Because sometimes you just need a little something MORE when it comes to brownies, so you add frosting (and sprinkles!).
5. Cream Cheese Brownies
A combination of my love for cheesecake and my love for chocolate are these amazing cream cheese brownies. Perfect little cream cheese swirls running throughout the brownies!
6. Frozen Brownie Sundae
I still remember making this the weekend that we moved four years ago, and everyone agreed that having it in the freezer was pretty much the best thing ever.
7. Marshmallow Crunch Brownie Bars
One of my first ventures in the world of crazy epic brownie concoctions, and still one of my favorites to this day. They getย rave reviews wherever I take them.
8. Peanut Butter Cup Crunch Brownie Bars
This is the peanut butter cup version of the marshmallow brownies above, and if you’re a chocolate and peanut butter fanatic like me, you’ll go nuts over these!
9. Outrageous Brownies
This is the famous recipe from Ina Garten, complete with being baked in a half sheet pan, this is the brownie recipe to make if you need to feed a crowd (or if you love brownies and want to make sure you don’t run out!).
10. Sweet and Salty Brownies
The Baked brownie (see #1 above) with a layer of salted caramel sauce baked right into the middle, plus a little extra fleur de sel for good measure. These are absolutely phenomenal brownies.
Whatโsย yourย favorite brownieย recipe??

Do you think I can sub coconut oil for butter in a cake? I had to cut all dairy out of my diet, but have two birthdays coming up that I need to bake for. ย I have done it with brownies, blondies and your Wacky Cake and they all turned out delicious, but I haven’t ventured into cakes with it yet.
Hi Erica, I don’t know coconut oil regularly in my baking, so I really couldn’t say how well it would work in a cake. It may depend on the individual recipe. I’d recommend doing a couple of trial runs before you need to serve them to see how they turn out.
They all look so good! How do you choose which one to make?!?!

I love brownies! I have made # 1 and #4, I need to get cracking on the rest of the list!
This will be my favorite top 10 list– I’ve made many of these recipes as I believe all brownie recipes deserve a taste. I missed the sweet and salty and marshmallow crunch ones, so now have some weekends baking to do! Thanks!!
I’ve made the buckeye brownies, great recipe! they were delicious!!! :)
Baked brownie is usually my base. My favorite variations are:
1. Salty turtle brownie – Stir in chopped semisweet chocolate to Baked brownie batter. Bake per regular Baked recipe. Drizzle with salted caramel sauce (BEB’s recipe) and chopped toasted pecans.
2. Peanut butter caramel brownie – Use Bobby Flay’s recipe for peanut butter caramel (also makes a great topping for ice cream). Swirl generous dollops of it onto the top of the Baked brownie batter. Bake per regular Baked recipe.
These look amazing! Quick question: is there a place where all of the top 10 lists are organized together?
Hi Tasha, There isn’t right now, but I will work on that! Thanks for the question/suggestion.
In the meantime, you could just run a search on “Top 10” in the search box or click this link: https://www.browneyedbaker.com/search-results/?q=Top+10
Hmm..my brownies did not make it to that list- maybe it’s because I defy the lwas of physcis and bake round brownies! One day the world will understand! ;) Great recipes!
Thanks for these brownie recipes. I’m going to check out 4 of them.
These look amazing!!
What a great roundup of brownie recipes, I can’t decide which one I want to try first!!
Holy Heck Brownies!
I have made the buckeye brownies on this list. OMG, it’s like a layer of peanut butter fudge over a brownie. Yum! Yum! Yum! These are my favorite.
The salted brownies look so delicious!

Brownies are my weakness :))
Nice collection.
Love the pics of your brownies; unfortunately, tried two of your recipes and they both turned out dry and cakey. Did anyone else have this problem? Any additional tips are appreciated.
Awesome blog article.Really thank you!
Michelle, have you tried the Zingerman’s Magic Brownie recipe? I had the opportunity to actually take the Zingerman’s brownie class where they teach you 4 different recipes, but more importantly, about technique and ingredients. Was an awesome experience, but best of all you got to go home with 4 pans of brownies that you made in class. I love their basic chewy brownie and use is for a base for a lot of ideas. And today I made your Peanut Butter Swirl but used the magic brownie base instead of the Baked brownie (which looks extremely yummy). And it was also awesome…
Hi Wendy, I have not tried it, awesome that you got to take lots of brownies home with you!
these brownies look great! can’t wait to try each recipe!
thanks for sharing!
Giving Ina Garten some love. Her brownies are my absolute favorite to make.
This post is my dream come true! I obsessively make brownies, I cant seem to find the perfect one. Surely after making these Ill have found it! Were to start?!
Can I be honest? I have never found a brownie recipe that comes out as good as a boxed mix. Yet again, I’ve never tried any of your brownie recipes either. Which one would you recommend starting with?
I would definitely start with the Chewy Brownies – they were created to mimic the texture and flavor of brownies from a box mix. https://www.browneyedbaker.com/2010/03/09/chewy-brownies/
You totally missed my favorite brownie….Cheesecake Brownies…or cream cheese swirled or something.with.cream.cheese!
See # 5
My fav here is the Baked Brownie. Although I would not hesitate to pick any of them off the screen if its possible :D
I made the Outrageous Brownies last night and I am in love. I have never had a homemade brownie that I liked more than the box-mix brownie, but this recipe is truly outrageous. Thanks for sharing and for all the great recipes and inspiration!
OK, now I’m hungry for each and every one of these!
YUM! I’m actually making the #10 today to send to my inlaws. I don’t know that I should be this excited about making (then eating) brownies. Thanks for a drool-worthy post. :)
Have you tried Alice Medrich’s Best Cocoa Brownies? I like them when they’re chilled- you’ll never need a chocolate bar again.
I am going to make every brownie on this list. I think it is my duty to do so. My favorite brownie is the marbled brownie. I notice that it wasn’t on your list, so I will have to try all of yours to see why they are so superior as to not include the marbled wonder. :) Thanks for a great post!!!
