The Weekend Dish: 12/30/2017
Hello last Saturday of 2017 (oh my)!
I have no idea how we tumbled to this point so quickly, but here we are! Do you have any New Year’s traditions? When I was younger, my parents had a big party every year, and as I got older, my friends came as well. Right now we’re thoroughly enjoying our tradition of a very low-key night at home and going to bed early! I’d love to hear about what you’re planning to do (and EAT!) and wish you a very safe a very Happy New Year! I’ll be back next week with a year in review and 2018 resolutions!
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I’ve bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

Sunday Dinner Menu
We’re a small group this week because of the holiday, but our parents will still be over, so I wanted to try some classic New Year’s Eve recipes that I haven’t made before…
Hoppin’ John
Cornbread
And a ring-shaped cake is supposed to be good luck as well, so I’m making this chocolate cream cheese Bundt cake
What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:
I have never heard of marshmallow roll cookies, but I’m 100% convinced that my Christmas needs them next year!
This dark chocolate and salted caramel banana layer cake is absolutely epic.
This chocolate truffle pie not only looks amazing and is no bake, but only requires five ingredients and is Paleo-friendly for anyone making the jump in January!
I came across Marcella Hazan’s rice and smothered cabbage soup while browsing Facebook a few nights ago and I am thoroughly intrigued… planning to try it in January!
Adding these Instant Pot spicy pineapple chicken tacos to my Instant Pot recipe short list!
Have a delicious weekend!
Can you please let us know if you make the cabbage soup and how
it comes out?
Sounds good!
Thank you!
I definitely will!
LOVE Marcellas cabbage & rice soup! Check out injennieskitchen.com. She’s made it as well, that’s where I saw it. She has great pics & tips!
Ooooh thank you for the tip, I will definitely check it out!
I saw a video of Hoppin’ John that you posted on FB and decided to try that this year.  I’ve never had it before, but it looks really good.  I’m looking forward to giving it a try this weekend.  I have never heard of a ring-shaped  cake bringing luck, but a bundt cake sounds good because of its ease and simplicity.  But so does a New Year’s pretzel from Oakmont :D Â
Happy New Year 2018!
Happy New Year Michelle!
My mother-in-law and I are spending NYE in Atlanta in our pjs watching movies while my husband flies up to Pittsburgh for the Steeler game.  We’re having lobster tails, fig and pistachio Brie, crab cakes, and wine. It’s going to be so fun! Happy New Year to you and your family!
That sounds like so much fun (and delicious!). Happy New Year!
