10 Best Soup, Stew & Chili Recipes
Another updated installment of a BEB Top 10 list!
You’d be hard-pressed to find something more comforting and soul-soothing on a cold fall or winter day than a bowl of warm soup, stew or chili. I love to smell a big pot simmering away on the stove for hours, and then to dig in with a piece of crusty bread, ideally curled up under a big fleece blanket. I’ve updated my list of favorites when it comes to soups, stews and chili, as they are one of my favorite types of food once the chilly weather hits in the fall. A few are newer recipes and some are from deep in the archives; you might find a new-to-you recipe or one you’ve forgotten about!
Without further ado (and in alphabetical order)…
Top 10 Best Soup, Stew & Chili Recipes on BEB
1. All-American Beef Chili – This is my ultimate go-to chili recipe, no exceptions.
2. Broccoli Cheese Soup – If you’re looking for a copycat recipe for Panera’s famous soup, I’ve got you covered!
3. Chipotle Chicken & Corn Chowder – I recreated this after my husband was going through tons of cans of the store-bought version; this is one of our all-time favorite soups.
4. French Onion Soup – This is one of my guilty pleasures when I go out to a nice restaurant; it was so rewarding to make a phenomenal batch at home.
5. Frito Pie – Since making this, I’ve found it near impossible to eat chili without Fritos! It’s a must for me now!
6. Guinness Beef Stew – This is one of my two favorite stews and while it’s perfect for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, you definitely don’t need an excuse to make it year-round.
7. Hearty Beef Stew – My other favorite stew; it tastes just like the classic version that my grandma used to make. A side of crusty bread or a roll is a must!
8. Hardcore Chili – This chili is an awesome change of pace from the ground beef version. It’s a little time-consuming, but absolutely worth it – the flavor can’t be beat!
9. Italian Wedding Soup – One of my mom’s specialties, this is comfort food at its finest for me.
10. Pasta Fagioli – This recipes yields a TON of soup, which makes it ideal for freezing in batches.
What are some of your favorite soups, stews or chili recipes? Any requests?
Lookss yummy!! Where can I get this? Or isthere any recipes?
I could eat soup every day in the winter. This list is great.
A couple of weeks ago I made the All American Beef Chili. I love this chili recipe. Its the second time I have made it. I also love the Frito Pie.
Is there a way to print them all without having to go into each and every one of them? I would love to have the recipes handy to make them during the week. Yummy!!!!!!
Hi Alexandra, Unfortunately not… you’ll have to go to the individual recipe to print it out.
Hi Brown Eyed Baker,
Just wanted you to know I made your Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip AND Jalapeno Popper Dip for the Super Bowl this past Sunday – they were both a hit! EVERYONE (and I mean EVERYONE) was raving about them. As you might imagine, the women and young girls were particularly crazy about the cookie dough dip and it was the men (especially my husband) who could not get enough of the popper dip :)
So thank you for putting out awesome recipes that were far better than the game itself! Hope all is well with your little one (our first is due in 3 weeks and we can’t wait!)
It’s 7:30 AM in Connecticut, but the snow is falling and I’m craving a delicious bowl of that Chipotle Chicken and Corn Chowder. I just fell in love with Corn Chowder this Christmas. My mom makes it for special meals, but it has bacon in it and I don’t eat red meat. She made a pot without the bacon, and ultimately I discovered how amazing it is. You took Corn Chowder to a whole new level. I can’t wait to try it. :)
I was already planning on making soup today so thanks for the inspiration. I make a Spicy Corn Chili that is made with hot sausage that is really yummy.
This was the absolute best thing I ran across this morning as I was looking for some cooking to do this weekend. Number three and six really stand out and look delicious. Well they all look so super delicious but it’s a toss up I’m going to be making one of the ones I mentioned. Just made a big batch of stew two weeks ago and froze some but that wouldn’t stop me from making another big batch. The Guinness beef stew looks like it’s to die for.
I am so very excited by Fritos on anything! So the frito pie sounds like a grand idea.
I made the pasta fagioli and the thick and hearty chili this weekend to freeze to eat for the coming week and they are both awesome! Thank you for sharing the recipes.
I would love to see a cheddar broccoli soup recipe
I’d be interested in a lentil soup recipe, anyways, that corn cheddar soup looks REALLY GOOD!!!
I wish I could have a bowl of each and every one of them for lunch/dinner. They’re all amazing! I love soup because there is always one that you like and there is no way you can go wrong with it.
My all time favourite is “erwtensoep” or Dutch split pea soup. I make it multiple times in the winter and even in spring/summer if I can get all the ingredients. Will be making it soon!
I love your “10 best” posts! There are quite a few soups I will be trying on this post. Thanks for the fun posts!
These all look delish – I love the variety you have here. That corn chowder looks divine!
Corn chowder does look delish.
So glad you posted this. I spotted your mushroom soup last year when I discovered and devoured your blog…this reminds me I need to make it. And I made your Italian Wedding Soup. My goodness, that is one tasty soup! As for my favorite: Chicken Tortilla Soup. It’s a recipe I found online ages ago and hubby always requests it. It’s even one of the most tried recipes from the whopping handful of people who subscribe to my blog ; )
My favorite is white chicken chili! Recipe here :

I love this time of year NOT for the weather (I’m a summer girl) but because of soups! Great list! We have a few favorites that I make again and again…sweet potato & kale, plus a creamy wild rice soup…I can’t wait to try your mushroom soup! :)
You are my hero !
Comparing your old and new picture makes me believe I too can do it !
Ooo…the cream of mushroom looks very comforting. Have you ever made a spicy lentil soup? I’ve eaten (and enjoyed) them a lot, but I’ve never tried to make one myself. That might be fun.
I have not, but that sounds delicious!
I am all over that cream of mushroom soup, I totally need to make that asap.
Awesome top 10 list, as usual!
have a great week!
Great a lot of ideas for this autumn
Perfect timing for this post. My throat is getting scratchy and my heading is getting light. It might be a soup filled week for me :( . These look so good!
What a great idea! I love soups and stews!
Me too.
I made your recipe for Ham and Split Pea Soup last fall and fell in LOVE with it! Can’t wait to try some of the others :)
I love a bowl of soup, cool temps and a football game at home on the couch. Another fall favorite of mine is Taco soup! Serve it with tortilla chips, sour cream, cheddar cheese and diced onions…. yum!
Great collection! Soup season is here!
They all look wonderful, but the picture and recipe for Pasta Fagioli isn’t there.
Hi Pam, So sorry about that, it must have saved a previous version. I have fixed it now and it’s there. Thank you for the heads up!
I love your Best Of Links! This one is also a keeper. The chili looks so good!!!
You’re right. There’s nothing more comforting than soups and stews!
All of these look so delicious and perfect for this time of year. Love how each recipe is something different from the other. This is a great post to bookmark!
