Cream Cheese Fruit Dip
This easy fruit dip recipe is the best! Made with just two ingredients – cream cheese and marshmallow creme – it takes only minutes to prepare and is the perfect addition to summer fruit trays!

This fruit dip is not fancy. It’s not complicated. It doesn’t emit uppity foodie vibes.
It’s easy. And cozy. And feels like home.
Two ingredients. TWO.
Time to whip up? Five minutes.
Addiction factor? Plus-10.
Basically, everyone needs this in their life. And if you choose to forgo the fruit and just eat it with a spoon? We can be BFF’s.

How to Make Cream Cheese Fruit Dip
I first had this fruit dip at a pool party in high school – my best friend’s mom put this out with a large fruit tray and I was immediately smitten. When I asked for the recipe, she simply said, “get a block of cream cheese and a jar of marshmallow creme and mix them together.”
Seriously. THAT IS THE ENTIRE RECIPE.
It’s insane how easy this is!

How Can I Make Marshmallow Fluff?
The whole marshmallow creme vs marshmallow fluff thing totally confused me at first – are they interchangeable? What’s the difference? Turns out, they are both marshmallow creme, but “Fluff” is an actual brand name. They are 100% the same thing (although some people claim that Marshmallow Fluff is a must for fluffernutter sandwiches).
These are common products here in the U.S., but if you live somewhere else, you may not be able to find them. Good news! You can absolutely make your own! I have a recipe for homemade marshmallow creme that you can use anytime a recipe calls for marshmallow creme or marshmallow fluff.

Can Fruit Dip Be Made Ahead or Frozen?
Yes to both!
The dip can be mixed together and stored in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 1 week.

You can also freeze the dip in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 month. Thaw in the refrigerator.

Fruit Dip Variations
While this is the one and only fruit dip I have ever made because it’s amazingly delicious and addicting and I like to adhere to the whole, “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality, there are approximately a billion and one other ways you can make fruit dip. True story. Let’s hash through some of them…
- Yogurt fruit dip – You can make this a few different ways… yogurt and Cool Whip / yogurt, Cool Whip AND vanilla pudding / yogurt, Cool Whip, vanilla pudding AND cream cheese.
- Strawberry fruit dip – This one is easy! Substitute strawberry cream cheese for plain cheese.
- Fruit dip with sour cream – This one reminds me of the grape salad I made earlier this year; it can also be made without cream cheese.
- Fruit dip with orange juice or pineapple juice – Adding a splash of either gives the fruit dip a little extra zip (and if you’re feeling extra saucy, try amaretto!).
- Fruit dip with Jello – Mix a 3-ounce package of Jello (your flavor of choice!) with an 8-ounce container of Cool Whip.
- Fruit dip with chocolate – Almost like chocolate ganache whipped with cream cheese, mmm! Try this fluffy chocolate fruit dip recipe to start!

What Are the Best Fruits for a Fruit Tray?
Now that we’ve nailed down ingredients, it’s time to select our fruits for dipping! The good news is that you can rarely go wrong! I tend to shy away from bananas because they brown quickly and can get mushy unless you eat them immediately after peeling, but most other fruits are fair game for me. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Pineapple
- Watermelon
- Apple slices (toss with pineapple juice to keep from browning!)
- Red grapes
- Honeydew
- Cantaloupe

If you’re throwing any sort of picnic, party or cookout this summer, make this fruit dip and watch it disappear before your eyes. Everyone goes CRAZY for it! And if you keep tons of fruit in the fridge during the summer, a bowl of this stashed away for mid-afternoon or evening dipping would certainly not be a terrible idea, either.
Happy summering!

I think I had this dip last summer. My Dad’s girlfriend made it and I could have eaten the whole bowl. I knew she had told me marshmallow creme & cream cheese, but couldn’t remember if there was something else. I felt like 2 ingredients was too easy!
Here’s another 2 ingredient fruit dip that everyone loves: cool whip and strawberry cream cheese. directions: mix together & serve! Yummy!!!!
Best fruit dip that I tried my 8yr old daughter tried it for the first time and loves it thank you for sharing this
Can this be prepared in advance, and can it be place in the fridge? How long will it last?
Yes, you can make this in advance. It should be good for 1-2 days refrigerated.
Hi Michelle, I’ve been experimenting with crepe fillings and I was wondering if this fruit dip could qualify? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated !
Oooh that would be good! I love crepes and would put pretty much anything in them :)
Had this at a party a few years ago….it is to DIE for!!!!
The host called it “sexy dip”….hee hee.
I made this for a party with 7oz of my homemade fluff and it was fabulous! All the adults kept going back and saying it was dangerous and asking what was in it. Mine had a subtle caramel flavor because I make my fluff with Lyle’s golden syrup. Totally addicting, thanks for sharing such a great and simple recipe! (I recommend whipping the cream cheese first until smooth to ensure no lumps in the final dip if you didn’t take the time to bring it completely to room temp :D .)
sometimes simplicity is they key to the best recipes!
Michelle since we both live in Western PA I am sure you have been to a Eat n Park and I love thier fruit salad there I wonder if thier fruit dip is similar to your recipe. If it is I am definatly trying this recipe.
I made this dip for my sister’s baby shower last summer. It was a big hit. I used a small tub of strawberry cream cheese instead of plain. And I added plain yogurt to thin it a little and take away a bit of the sweetness. It was so yummy.
This is what I use when I make a fruit pizza (sugar cookie crust topped with this fruit dip and then sliced, fresh fruit arranged on top). Yummy!!
Mine is a lot more complicated than yours…but worth it if you have the time…here it goes…. a box of vanilla pudding, a brick of cream cheese and tub of cool whip. I often have to thin it out with a bit of milk or oj….i really like it with strawberries.
This seems to be very delicious. I would try it definitely.
Add some fresh squeeze juice from and orange and a little orange zest and it takes like a dreamsicle!!
oops – tastes
Oh this dip IS addicting! My mom made this for get togethers growing up.
Hello-
This is a fruit dip from my growing up years too. Loved to see it again! Thanks for sharing! I found you through food buzz and have signed up for your site through RSS. Here is my blog: learntocookbadgergirl.com. Hope you will do the same!
I love this dip. I usually add a tablespoon or so of orange juice or vanilla or amaretto to it for a little flavor. Yum!
This is my favorite dip, too! I think I’ll make some for our upcoming weekend at the lake. Thanks for reminding me!
I first had this dip when I was given a baby shower for my son who is in his 30’s now. When I asked for the recipe (’cause I just HAD to have it) I couldn’t believe it was as simple as the 2 ingredients listed. I was sure something was left out so my dip wouldn’t be quite as good… lol. Nope, just as good!!! I’m anxious to try some of the flavor options I’ve learned here!
This dip makes me super happy. I have a serious citrus fruit allergy and people always sneak those sneakin pineapple bits/juice in their fruit dips and then I just have naked fruit :(
Here’s a similar fruit dip that a friend gave me.
Fruit Dip
7 oz. marshmallow creme
8 oz. cool whip topping (extra creamy if you can find it)
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. maraschino cherry juice
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine all ingredients.
Seriously it’s this simple? Bless you my child.
I usually forgo the dip with fruit, because I like fruit enough – but you put marshmallow fluff in it, and I am all over it! Sounds perfect!
I’m not a fan of marshmallow cream (I know, I’m a freak) but I make a similar fruit dip using 8 oz. cream cheese and 8 oz. of vanilla yogurt. I always have vanilla yogurt in my fridge, and its so yummy when paired together! I’ll have to try some of the other variations people have shared!
This is my FAVORITE fruit dip! I throw in a tsp or so of fresh orange zest. Very yummy….
This is my most favorite fruit dip, so simple and so delicious! Love your story of teen-aged angst. Weren’t our lives so hard back then? :)
I love simple dips like this one! You are right…they do taste like home :)
This has been one of my favorite dips since I was a kid… I still make it! I think I need to pick up some marshmallow fluff so I can make some this weekend :)
What an awesome dip. I’ve never had a reason to buy marshmallow fluff, but I might try it this time!
I love all of the different variations you folks have shared! Can’t wait to try some of them, thank you!
I have a similar fruit dip that I make with cream cheese and brown sugar. So simple but so good. My friends call it ‘fruit dip crack.’
