Fruit Dip
This fruit dip is not fancy. It’s not complicated. It doesn’t emit foodie vibes.
It’s easy. And comfortable. And feels like home.
Since I have somehow never posted about this ridiculously awesome dip, I feel like I should do some sort of penance. Feel free to offer suggestions in the comments. In the meantime, let’s talk about this fruit dip. Two ingredients. TWO. Time to whip up? Five minutes. Addiction factor? Plus-10. Basically, everyone needs this in their life. And if you choose to forgo the fruit and just eat it with a spoon? We can be BFF’s.

It’s funny how certain vivid memories stick with you throughout life. The story of this dip is one of them.
I was 15. It was August, a few weeks before the start of the school year. I was going to be a sophomore. As in, no longer a freshman, and the year of my driver’s license! My best friend’s parents hosted a pool party at their house for a bunch of kids and parents. There are two things that I remember from that party: this fruit dip and that by the end of the party I had hit it off with a senior (a SENIOR!) and was already anxiously awaiting his call for a date. The next day, the call came. Cue giddy teenage girl theatrics. Then my parents reminded me that I was still a full seven months away from turning 16, which was when I was allowed to do the whole one-on-one car dating thing. And they were not changing their mind or bending their rule. Cue stomping, pouting, lunatic teenage girl theatrics. Oh, teenage angst. Everything is so dramatic and life-or-death, isn’t it?
I might not have been able to have my date, but I had this dip. When I asked my friend’s mom for the recipe and she gave me two ingredients and said “mix them together”, I was in love. And addicted. Probably better to have fallen for the dip than the senior anyway

I’ve been making this for years but always using different flavors of jello to flavor it with. Cherry, strawberry, raspberry, etc…I’ve actually never had this dip plain, the way you make it, because I’m always too busy choosing what flavor dip to make the next one!
It doesn’t take much jello, though, just a teaspoon or so per batch of fruit dip. Less, if you use the sugar free jello.

It is also fun to flavor with a tablespoon (or two!) of Grand Marnier or Amaretto. Yum.

It`s a pitty that in Poland we don`t have marshmallow creme…

I’ve heard that you can try melting 7 oz. marshmallows with 2 tsp. corn syrup, as a substitute for marshmallow creme.

Why O why did you put this idea in my head?! I already eat marshmallow fluff by the spoonful (not proud btw), and I love cream cheese. I wonder how long I can resist

This is probobly the easiest fruit dip I’ve ever made yet it’s the best. Plus you can add food coloring and either crushed pineapple or crushed strawberries and make it flavored!

My mom always made this for us growing up!!!! I love this dip and had forgot about it. The store stuff that they sell in my produce department is horrible….thanks for reminding me about this easy yummy recipe.

I had completely forgotten about this recipe. It can make any fruit better!

fruit dip is one of those things that makes the fruit just another vessel for the dip…yum!

I LOVE FRUIT DIP!!! Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve never made my own; I usually buy it from the store. but I would much rather make it myself.

I use strawberry cream cheese and it’s to die for.

The fruit would just be the vehicle to get this dip into my mouth!

This IS delicious!! I also make another super easy two ingredient fruit dip – one tub of light Cool Whip (defrosted) and one container (6-8 oz) of yogurt. I love it with Dannon Light and Fit Rasperry. It’s always a hit!!

That does sound delicious…

we make this and LOVE it! Great as an appetizer for a party.

My mom used to make this all the time when I was little! It’s the best fruit dip. My fave with strawberries.

Mmmmm, sounds good! I wonder how it would work mixed in with fruit, like a dressing. Maybe with some mini marshmallows tossed in for good measure
Oh, and some coconut…. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!

this is my absolutely, all time-favorite fruit dip! i eat it by the spoonful sometimes…heh. there’s a reason it doesn’t get made much around here – i can eat the entire thing in one sitting.

ooo! I love fruit dips. I need to try this one! I was totally thinking you were having what I’ve been eating lately (when you said a couple of ingredients), mascarpone and honey. Thanks for sharing!

This is a standby for me — a dash of orange juice not only gives it a little boost, but makes combining the other two ingredients a little easier.

I have a similar fruit dip that I make with cream cheese and brown sugar. So simple but so good. My friends call it ‘fruit dip crack.’

I love all of the different variations you folks have shared! Can’t wait to try some of them, thank you!

This is my FAVORITE fruit dip! I throw in a tsp or so of fresh orange zest. Very yummy….

I’m not a fan of marshmallow cream (I know, I’m a freak) but I make a similar fruit dip using 8 oz. cream cheese and 8 oz. of vanilla yogurt. I always have vanilla yogurt in my fridge, and its so yummy when paired together! I’ll have to try some of the other variations people have shared!
Reply
I usually forgo the dip with fruit, because I like fruit enough – but you put marshmallow fluff in it, and I am all over it! Sounds perfect!

Seriously it’s this simple? Bless you my child.

Here’s a similar fruit dip that a friend gave me.
Fruit Dip
7 oz. marshmallow creme
8 oz. cool whip topping (extra creamy if you can find it)
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. maraschino cherry juice
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine all ingredients.

This dip makes me super happy. I have a serious citrus fruit allergy and people always sneak those sneakin pineapple bits/juice in their fruit dips and then I just have naked fruit

I first had this dip when I was given a baby shower for my son who is in his 30′s now. When I asked for the recipe (’cause I just HAD to have it) I couldn’t believe it was as simple as the 2 ingredients listed. I was sure something was left out so my dip wouldn’t be quite as good… lol. Nope, just as good!!! I’m anxious to try some of the flavor options I’ve learned here!

This is my favorite dip, too! I think I’ll make some for our upcoming weekend at the lake. Thanks for reminding me!

I love this dip. I usually add a tablespoon or so of orange juice or vanilla or amaretto to it for a little flavor. Yum!

Mine is a lot more complicated than yours…but worth it if you have the time…here it goes…. a box of vanilla pudding, a brick of cream cheese and tub of cool whip. I often have to thin it out with a bit of milk or oj….i really like it with strawberries.

This is what I use when I make a fruit pizza (sugar cookie crust topped with this fruit dip and then sliced, fresh fruit arranged on top). Yummy!!

I made this dip for my sister’s baby shower last summer. It was a big hit. I used a small tub of strawberry cream cheese instead of plain. And I added plain yogurt to thin it a little and take away a bit of the sweetness. It was so yummy.

Michelle since we both live in Western PA I am sure you have been to a Eat n Park and I love thier fruit salad there I wonder if thier fruit dip is similar to your recipe. If it is I am definatly trying this recipe.

I made this for a party with 7oz of my homemade fluff and it was fabulous! All the adults kept going back and saying it was dangerous and asking what was in it. Mine had a subtle caramel flavor because I make my fluff with Lyle’s golden syrup. Totally addicting, thanks for sharing such a great and simple recipe! (I recommend whipping the cream cheese first until smooth to ensure no lumps in the final dip if you didn’t take the time to bring it completely to room temp
