Hi there, baking bread is my new hobby. I have baked bread with olive oil but even nicer, I have baked olive bread 2 times. They were great taste. Goes really welcome with the turkish aubergine salad made by my friend and with Bruschetta. Happy baking and blogging.
Good luck on your conquest Chelle – I know you will not only “take a stab” at all the above – but completely rock them!
Oh, and I think you need a picture of Einstein on here somewhere!
What a cool idea! I’m so gonna copy this. The idea I mean, not the list
Hi Chelley, I would recommend this recipe for your challah: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/ALMOST-GRANDMOTHERS-CHALLAH-463
And, I would underbake a little. Any Jew will tell you that challah is best enjoyed soft and doughy and by pulling off chunks – don’t you dare slice it unless it’s a day later and you are making french toast!
For pumpkin pie… My mom and I have always used the recipe on the label of store bought Libby brand canned pumpkin! Of course, we use fresh pumpkin… it may sound silly – but this recipe is really good! Here’s a link to the recipe… (It’s also really good w/ fresh whipped cream!)
http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipes/detail.aspx?ID=18470
I just stumbled across you blog and love it. I’m definitely trying some of these recipes (beef wellington). In see on your top 100 list you have focaccia bread – I’ve been making one of these for years that is absolutely delicious.
http://kencooks.blogspot.com/2008/06/herbed-focaccia-bread.html
What a great idea! I need a list of cooking goals so I can keep up with what new stuff I try out! My recipe for seven layer bars is a show-stopper. People groan even after they’re done eating. You’ll win the hearts of anyone with this one, and it’s SUPER easy. I hope you like it! http://www.myfirstkitchen.net/blog/2008/7/19/seven-layer-cookie-bars.html
Kendra – Just wanted to know if you have another link to your seven layer coookie recipe it seems like my first kitchen does not exist anymore!
I have a list like this too, great idea to put it on your blog to find suggestions. Here are some of my favorite versions of some of the recipes you’re looking for:
Irish Cream Creme Brulee (I made it with Kahlua):

hi michelle. i just found your blog and i adore it!! i bake just about as often as i breathe haha this top 100 list is a great idea.
before i became vegan, i would make this blondie recipe all the time. it’s the best in the world and i’ve tried a lot of versions. it’s probably my favorite non vegan dessert- http://www.cookiemadness.net/?p=294
Really nice blog! I have a popover recipe on my site if you want to cross off #20.
http://judicialpeach.com/2008/11/17/popovers/
I LOVE this recipe for snickerdoodles: http://www.eatmedelicious.com/2007/09/snickerdoodles.html
And I also love Martha Stewart’s rugelach recipe.
hi there! for foccacia i used this recipe and the result is excellent – says my picky italian flatmate, so i guess you should try it!
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Rosemary-Flat-Bread-351249?recipename=Rosemary%20Flat%20Bread&saved_to_box=y
and for red velvet cupcakes/cakes i use the recipe from magnolia bakery, with some adjustments (read my reviews -> user lavanyalea)

have fun cooking n baking!!!!
Love your 100 list! I actually made sfogliatelle last year and although it was time consuming, it was a lot of fun and worth the effort. The pics are on my blog and I tried to take some of each step because figuring out the instructions were the hardest part! Love your blog!
I just say your list (alhtough I’ve been tagging along for some time). I made a great Zucchini loaf last year that everyone raved about. It took it to a meeting at work and my colleagues inhaled it!
http://jdeq.typepad.com/jerrys_thoughts_musings_a/2008/04/lemon-glazed-zu.html
This is a great idea chelle! I just decided to start one of these on my new recipe blog as for a recipe for a better than sex cake here’s one that i looove, http://caramel-hearts.com/?p=41
it’s really simple
Hey! I hope you don’t mind, I’m going to use this list as a starting point for my own “100″ on my blog. This is such a great idea! I’m always adding things to my “To-Bake” list, and I think a categorized checklist of 100 things would be a great way to remember everything I wanna bake! I’ll totally give you all the credit too! ;D
I have a really excellent pecan pie recipe on my blog – my ex’s grandmother won at the Texas State Fair with it. I also have a German Chocolate Cake recipe from my grandmother.
Nice list, nice blog!
hi there, i dont know if you have gone with the lasagna, but if you havent i came across a quite nice and pratic lasagna recipe in lookandtaste.com. just go there and search for lasagna.. there is also video though the lasagna is ready made he is using maybe u might want to prepare your own sheets too ^^

I have a yeast based poppyseed coffee cake recipe that has been part of our holiday tradition for 3 generations now. I have not made it for my blog yet but would be glad to share the recipe with you. Email or leave a comment on my blog and let me know how best to send it to you. Blessings!
Hi, I stumbled upon your blog yesterday while looking for a snickerdoodle recipe for my husband’s upcoming birthday. Looking at your 100, i wanted to share my favorite (and easy-easy-easy) chocolate mouse recipe. It’s tried, tested and true. I have been using it for years, and made dozens of different desserts with variations of this mousse recipe. Enjoy! http://www.foodtv.ca/recipes/recipedetails.aspx?dishid=3644

What a great idea!! You have a fantastic blog:)
I’m really inspired to make a list of my own now. But I do have a few suggestions about your yeast-related items. . .
I was scared to try most breads until my mom got me the Williams-Sonoma ‘Essentials of Baking’ book that I’ve used repeatedly. Their recipe for foccacia honestly never fails, is written for beginners, and it takes only a handful of ingredients. Plus I cut my teeth on sourdough, baguettes, and many more without fail.
For babka and yeasted coffee cakes, Carole Walter’s book ‘Great Coffee Cakes, Sticky Buns, Muffins and More’ has fabulous recipes for both of those items using the same base dough. Her recipes tend to be a bit long (she talks about each step thoroughly) but they’re easy to follow, they only look daunting.
Best of luck on tackling your 100!
What a fabulous idea!! I’m going to brainstorm my own 100-list for next year
Are you going to make your list by the end of ’09?!?!? I so wish I was your neighbor! I would love helping you knock your list out!! Keep going
Just discovered your site and love it. I too have my list of kitchen food items I want to tackle or have made in the past but wish to perfect. I noticed that you have New York Cheesecake on your list. I stopped searching for new recipes for NY Cheesecake the first time I baked the Cook’s Illustrated New York Cheesecake recipe. This cake never lasts until the next morning as my college-age kids make trips to the fridge in the middle of the night to sneak just one more taste of this never fail delicious cake. Give it a try and see what you think.
Hi, I’m a big fan of your blog! My favorite pumpkin pie recipe comes from here:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Homemade-Fresh-Pumpkin-Pie/Detail.aspx
I make two at a time, just like the recipe. The only changes I made were that I use sweetened condensed milk instead of evaporated, and I just microwave the pumpkin instead of boiling. I divide the pumpkin into 2 or 3 pieces and microwave each for about 4-5 minutes and scoop the flesh out and mash.
Happy baking!
heyy I absolutely love your site! I look at it every day to see if you added anything new. I made your triple chocolate oatmeal cookies..ahh to die for! I was going to ask you to make a souffle! I see you have yet to cross that off your list and I’m dying to make one but I want to see you make it first.
I make the same things over and over so I need to branch out, but I dont know how it will turn out so I wanted to see it done first and then I’ll try. I even went out for bought myself a souffle dish today :] So whenever you get the chance!
Keep up your amazing work!
If you need a recipe for Boston cream pie cake look at my blog! The recipe is from Sky High Cakes and it’s fabulous!
I stumbled upon your blog while looking for a recipe for White Chocolate Macadania Nut cookies. I, too, love to bake and am constantly trying new dishes. I bookmarked your site and have copied several recipes to try. I have a wonderful recipe for cheesecake that you should try. Whenever I make it my neighbor comes over for dessert and takes some home for breakfast! It is heavenly! I also have a delicious rum cake recipe that I will try to copy for you.
Hi! I love the idea of a list of things you want to cook. I’ve made baklava a couple of times before and it is a pretty easy dish. Here’s the recipe I used:
http://sarahatthestove.wordpress.com/2010/01/28/bala-bac-bat-that-honey-thing/
I have an awesome Angel Food Cake Recipe and also a Yummy Baked Beans Recipe! They are both posted on my blog @ http://www.fromcupboardtocupboard.blogspot.com…. Thanks! I Love your site! We have a lot in common in the kitchen!
May I suggest you take a look at Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day for your inspiration for no-knead bread? It is easy and absolutely amazing! http://www.artisanbreadinfive.com/
Thanks for your awesome blog. I love it! As a former western PA girl, I especially appreciate your PSU and Pittsburgh themes.
I like your list!
For the no-knead bread, a lot of other bloggers seem to have tried this out. I’ve made it many times and it’s the best bread I’ve ever had. If you go to Jaden Hair’s Steamy Kitchen blog (http://steamykitchen.com/168-no-knead-bread-revisited.html) you can see how her adorable son made it.
For the pumpkin pie, I second Cherie’s suggestion. I’ve made it many times also, but last time I added maple syrup (just a touch).
For those onion rings, Elise Bauer from Simply Recipes has posted this http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/onion_rings/ but I’ve never tried it.
Good luck and happy baking! I love you blog and look forward to seeing what other things you make!
Red Velvet cake with a cream cheese frosting. I’ve been wanting to make this for a while but haven’t found a really good recipe
For Better Than Sex Cake, make a chocolate cake (any will do, I usually use a box of German Chocolate). Let it cool slightly, but while its still warm, make slashes all over it with a knife. Then pour a whole can of sweetened condensed milk and a whole jar of caramel ice cream topping in it. I usually keep my knife working while I pour, like create openings throughout the cake so the sweet. cond. milk and caramel can soak in. Once that is officially soaked, sprinkle 1/4 bag of Heath Chocolate Toffee bits on top, frost with cool whip of whipping cream, then the rest of the bag of the toffee bits sprinkled on top. Refridgerate leftovers. This cake is dang good!
I have always wanted to make baklava but was scared to try it because of how labor intensive it was!!! So I started small with mini baklava cups with phyllo dough pastry cups and a mini-muffin tin! They turned out great and were super easy to make.
Fun idea!!
Ok, I have a recipe for your lasagna (it’s mine)!
http://cookincowgirl.blogspot.com/2010/12/lasagna-with-spinach-and-ricotta.html
Might have to do the same thing on my blog! Great idea!
I love this idea. I think you have inspired me to start my own cooking/baking bucket list.
I’m sixteen and you inspired me to create my own bucket list. i hope to open my own bakery one day.
I’ve been bit by the baking bug big time! (whew, try to say that 3x fast!) I usually only bake during the holidays and hardly ever during the summer (too hot), but for some reason, I’ve been baking about every week, sometimes twice a week. My kids don’t mind, but hubby is trying to lose some weight and have asked me to slow it down a bit. It’s getting to the point where I think I might want to enroll in a school for making pastry and confections and hopefully open my own pastry/bakery shop as well. I really enjoy your blog and love all your yummy recipes.
I just came across your blog– the reuben dip looks awesome! I love this list, it is such a great idea and I’d like to add something similar on to my blog. THere are so many things I’d like to try and it’s a good way to create goals!
I LOVE short ribs and just started making them at home. Here are two great recipes, one uses a slow cooker and the other one doesn’t:
http://yummybites.tumblr.com/post/2976455944/balsamic-glazed-short-ribs
http://yummybites.tumblr.com/post/2569507974/stout-braised-beef-short-ribs
I love this idea – not just for baking but for life! (but baking is a great place to start
I love the thought and creativity that you’ve put into your blog – your photos are fantastic – good enough to eat right off my screen!
Baklava and crepes are a must! Both surprisingly simple and oh so delicious. I grew up with a gloriously easy crepe recipe, take a look and maybe you’ll cross it off your list!
http://mskye.com/cooking/?p=19
Thanks for a beautiful blog!
You should add Sopa de Ajo(garlic soup), and add the eggs.
I am going to try adapting a Baklava recipe to use some local honey and maybe make my own honey roasted nuts for the baklava as I want to enter the recipe into the Food Network Magazine’s Secret Ingredient recipe contest.
If you have not guessed yet the Secret Ingredient is Honey.
Hi!
I see # 105 on your list is Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. I don’t know if you’ve ever had it, but my grandmother used to make it all the time. I found this recipe recently and tried it out, it’s pretty amazing!! Hope you enjoy it! Blessings, Tresa
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-challenge/grandmas-strawberry-rhubarb-pie-recipe/index.html
I came across your blog today, and your “100″ list. Do you already have a strawberry rhubarb pie recipe, or would you like to try my Grandma’s recipe? It’s delicious, and she gave me three variations for how to top it!
You’ve inspired me to make my own list, so in the coming weeks I’ll be adding one to my site as well!
For focacci bread – try the Sep/Oct 2010 issue of Cook’s Illustrated. They have a great easy recipe (no knead) that I make often now. It is a favorite of ours!
This is SO great. The obsessive list maker in me can hardly take it. Go you!
Michelle,
I just found your site and love it!
I don’t know how recently you updated your “100″, but I have a no-knead bread recipe that a friend sent me and I loved it.
Keep up the great work! I look forward to reading more.
try the William Sonoma recipe in their dessert cookbook when you do the flourless choc cake. its our FAV! we make it 1x a year for my husbands bday since he is allergic to gluten. sooo good
Great list… I was lead here by Macheesmo who linked to your Root Beer Float cake, which I’m making tonight for supper with my dear Mother. She is a huge root beer fan and I’m sure she will enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, provided I don’t muck it up. I also just read this morning on the LA Times website (with a video embedded) about Foccacia bread in their “Masterclass” series. It was written by Nancy Silverton of the LaBrea Bakery and Chef/Owner of Mozza. She learned in Italy. Good, good tips. I always love good tips. Here’s the link if you’re interested. I’ll be stopping by regularly. Thank for your great cooking and baking AND your great writing and photography. http://www.latimes.com/features/food/la-fo-masterclass-20110526,0,1188913.htmlstory
Hi Jeanne, Thank you for the link to that feature, I am going to check it out!
Ah yes, I saw focaccia on your 100-list and also was about to recommend the Nancy Silverton piece in the LA Times. She traveled to Italy to learn how to make the best focaccia and, apparently, has succeeded in doing so. Good luck with your effort, BEB!
I came across your blog via Taste of Home’s twitter page and I am in LOVE with it now! I love to cook and bake. I’ve slowly been looking through your blog and there are a lot of recipes I’d love to try. I wanted to add something to your Cooking Bucket List. Pumpkin Bread. I found a great recipe and it is amazing! Even my cousin’s 4 year old who is a picky eater love it. He ate half the loaf on Thanksgiving. Here’s a link to it on my blog: http://chadnbeth.blogspot.com/2010/12/healthified-pumpkin-bread.html
If you decide to make let me know what you think! =)
I saw you have stuffed cabbage on your bucket list. Check out Lidia Bastianich’s recipe for stuffed cabbage….I made it recently and it’s amazing!
Hello – I am new to your blog site and I just have to commend you on just being awesome!! You have accumulated some really amazing recipes. I would like to take this opportunity to share a little extra secret I have for making the infamous sweetened condensed milk recipe “magic cookie bars” extra special and my very own… I add an extra 1/4th of the crust recipe. ( I never feel like the standard is enough crust.) I also use chocolate graham crackers for this. But here is the real kicker. After I have the pan all assembled and ready to through in the oven , I lightly sprinkle the top with salt!
Think about it. Chocolate and salt… What’s not to love?!?
This is so inspiring! I’ve created my own (truncated) version with just southern desserts. Thanks for the motivation and keep up the great baking/writing/photos.
Here’s a link to mine as well!
http://www.southxsanfrancisco.com/2011/06/25-southern-desserts-to-conquer.html
This is my first time on your site, visiting from a link on http://tracy-midwesterngirl.blogspot.com
This list is a fab idea. My “To make” list keeps increasing and getting lost along the way. This is a fab way to keep track. I just might draw up a list soon. I have a Moussaka recipe that turns out great. You can find the recipe here:
http://myhobbielobbie.blogspot.com/2011/06/moussaka.html
Michelle, I have recently discovered your blog and LOVE it! I’m trying as many recipes as I can – everything is coming out beautifully! I saw on your Top 100 that you have not yet tried to make Baklava – I found a recipe several years ago and have made it at Christmas and Easter for my office. I have to share this one, http://myweb.cableone.net/gob/Recipes/BAKLAVA.HTM, this is the BEST baklava recipe I have ever tried, people literally BEG me to make it more than once or twice a year! It’s time consuming and once it’s baked & the syrup is poured on it, it’s best to let it sit for a couple of days before serving, that syrup just soaks up into the phyllo so nicely!! I hope you get a chance to make this, you will absolutely not regret putting in the time on this one!
Thank you Karen! I am definitely saving this!
I LOVE this idea! you’ve inspired me- maybe 100 is a bit ambitious, but 50 is doable.
I’m so inspired by this list! I’m going to work on creating my own 100.
waiting on 93 to be done!! Just got back from Europe and would love to replicate crepes!!! I have done so many of your recipes…recently, banana bread and the peanut butter snickers cookies…looking forward to hear about your crepe experiment! (I am excited to try it with Nutella and strawberries!)
Michelle – I am a new food blogger (as of last week!) and your blog is one of the first I’ve followed. You truly inspire me! I had a list of things I wanted to tackle in the kitchen and decided to post the list – very similar to your top 100. I want to try donuts, souffle and roast chicken too. I’ll let you know how it goes! Cream puffs are on my list – I’ll check out your recipe. I’m also a sports enthusiast (Philly for me; NY for my hubby)… good luck with your fantasy team! All the best, Leah
I love your site!! Coq au vin, Yummy. However, every Petit Four I’ve ever had taste like an overly sweet dry little cake covered with edible tastless plastic! Good luck making them taste decent.
Hi, Question what is the best brand of cupcake pan to use or what kind to do use?
I just want you to know that your recipes are the bomb.
Happy Holidays.
Hi Doni, I use a Calphalon non-stick cupcake pan. Happy baking!
Bakalava is so easy to make and fun. I make it during the holidays and everyone LOVES it! It’s especially fun to make with a friend.
I know this post is old, but I thought I’d offer a suggestion for one of the items: no-knead bread. There’s a great book called “Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes” that has revolutionized at-home bread baking. The process doesn’t require kneading, waiting, kneading, waiting…etc. It’s pretty awesome. I hope this helps you on your quest! This is a great idea for a blog post, too. Do you mind if I steal it and put up something similar on my blog?
Hi Tricia, Thanks for the suggestion, I have been meaning to pick up that book! And yes, you can definitely use the idea and make your own list! I’m flattered that I inspired you
Great site! I love the idea for your 100 list. I have been working on conquering a recipe or particular ingredient every week but I love the way you have laid it all out there and can track your progress! Bravo!
Good mornng,
What brand of Red Food Coloring do you use?
Thanks
I use Wilton brand color gels.
One more question for the year. LOL
When baking Red Velvets Cupcakes because of the cream cheese frosting can they be left out on the counter or should they be refrigerated?
You have really been a great help to me and I thank you
Hi Doni, I usually leave them out. You are welcome, that’s what I’m here for!
Help…..If I frost the red velvet w/cream cheese frosting today will they still be ok for Friday if they are left out. I’m really nervous about it. I’m baking cupcakes that I have to deliver to someone today but they wont be eating them until Friday. Is that ok????
I would bake them today, keep them in an airtight container, and then frost them on Friday, or as close as possible to when you want to serve them (I would say no more than night before).
Wow – what a great idea. I just happened to come across this blog, as I was looking for biscotti recipes. I think I may do the same (just a personal list-I don’t blog) and include 100 things I want to do in 2012! I will be 65 years old this year…I’ve survived breast and ovarian cancer – every year I tackle a project I’ve been wanting to do. Last year it was pie crust, this past year it was learning to make personal greeting cards. So, I think I could accomplish 100 things in my 65th year…thanks for the idea and the chocolate biscotti! Happy New Year!
Hi this blog has inspired me to create my own list. Thanks for the inspiration!
so very cool! I usually do this when I get a new cookbook….i look through and list all the things I want to make out of it and cross them off as I do. I am way behind because I keep buying them and now with your site and the internet I can’t even think about how behind I am. love your recipes and enthusiasm! so inspiring. I have a great chocolate pie recipe if you want….i saw you haven’t crossed it off yet..its my moms and it really is the best.
Oooh sure feel free to send along the recipe, I never turn one down!
Happy New Year!!11
Can I make your carrot cake recipe into cupcakes?
Hi Doni, I have not done so, but you could certainly try it!
You should make Filipino egg rolls (lumpia). So delicious!! I’ll see if I can find a recipe for you to try.
Oooh thank you for the suggestion!
This is awesome – I never thought to write my list down!
Hello and Happy New Year,
What brand of muffin pan do you use?
Doni
Hi Doni, I use a Calphalon non-stick muffin pan.
